One thing I'd like to point out about Espeon is that it actually used to be purple. If you look at earlier sprites of it, it actually is purple. Just for funsies, I made two "monocolor" teams based on official colors. The pink one was bulky but didn't hit hard enough (Tinkaton, Scream Tail, Blissey, Slowbro, Flamigo, and Bewear before the HOME update). The purple team was made up of several competitive Pokémon and was kinda good (Corviknight, Great Tusk, Gengar, Mienshao, Indeedee, and Cloyster).

For Gligar being classified as purple, in the original gen 2 games (GSC) it was purple and then changed to a more pinkish color in later gens. The older Pokemon's color classification will always be the same as they originally were, regardless if their colors have changed over time.

Colour categories were added in gen 3(technically, as you could search the dex using this method, but officially it wasnt added til DPPT/HGSS), so sneasel's crystal change saved it's category. @@Lokear

On a hunch, looked up Gligar's early sprites, and it's... confusing. In gen 2, it was pink. In gens 3 and 4, it looks purple. Only from gen 5 onwards does it become pink again and stay that way. I checked when the sorting by colour mechanic was introduced and lo and behold, it was in gen 3, when it still looked purple. Gliscor is also classified as purple btw (despite clearly being gray) so at least Mikey's theory of giving the same colour to evolutionary lines is holding up. By that logic, I guessed that Lotad would be green because Lombre and Ludicolo are primarily green, and I was right! It is classified as green. So you guys really did learn something from this challenge and helped us make more sense of this nonsensical classification.

Fun fact, Tatsugiri was among a handful of Pokémon whose colors were different depending on whether you looked at the mobile or Switch version of Home. In December 2023, the mobile version was updated to match the Switch version. Curly Tatsugiri being pink and droopy Tatsugiri being red was how it appeared on mobile, and they got swapped when the update happened. In other words, John was the rightful winner.

Fun fact: The Tatsugiri color fiasco was actually fixed possibly because of this video. It was officially listed as Pink for Curly and Red for Droopy on the Mobile version of Pokemon HOME but the accidentally mixed labelling was corrected so now they're actually their correct color. Also 3 pokemon I noticed while looking at the colors that were really silly were Qwilfish, a tossup between blue and green so not one people would probably use as a first choice, is actually neither and is gray, and Volcanion and Wo Chien, two legendary pokemon that are pretty heavily red and black respectively(though I could see green for a weird Wo Chien color) are both brown. For some reason.

Little fun pokemon fact: Mikey only won because of an error. Tatsugiri's droopy form is categorized as Pink. The only reason Bulbapedia listed it as red was because the mobile version of Pokemon Home, for some reason, switched the colors of the Curly and Droopy form. It has since been fixed

The Roaring Moon actually has an explanation for being considered as Green. As we know, Pokémon is originally from Japan. In Japan, Blue is Green and vice versa. That’s why the ribal, “Blue” is “Green” in the Japanese versions.
