The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF’s) highly anticipated African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 is set to kick off on January 13 in the Ivory Coast, where the continent’s biggest stars are expected to shine after an impressive showing for their respective clubs and the Qatar World Cup 2022. The tournament boasts five teams from the tournament in Qatar, with semifinalists at the global showpiece - Morocco - the red-hot favourites to become the champions of Africa.

The most memorable AFCON moment for me was Rigobert Song getting pressured by Zidan all the way back to his half from the ball bouncing off his knee . The whole time I can see the nervousness and sweat on Song’s face from the constant pestering from Zidan and I’m screaming at the top of my lungs “ kick the ball out kick your ball out of play” . They both ended up on the floor in the 18 yard box still struggling for the ball and I’m thinking I hope this might not lead to a goal . All I see is Zidan getting up and quick to the ball and just laying the ball to Aboutrika for an easy tap in . I lost my freaking mind . As an elder statesman I watched lots of Cameron football at their peak from Patrick Mboma and the infamous sleeveless jerseys and watching the veteran defender make that error broke my heart Herh smh
