When everyone feels like the A7r iii is still not obsolete, Sony: "We present to you A7r iv" Sony just being Sony I guess...
@stuartschaffner97445 жыл бұрын
I am a wildlife/landscape photographer mostly. So, I take images of dim small things often in crappy light. These things either take centuries to move or move rapidly. 15 stops of dynamic range tells me that 800 ISO is the new baseline ISO. So, cool. 60 megapixels is a waste of bandwidth for me. As a nature photographer, I mostly want the best EVF Sony can provide. I no longer care much about a back screen, flippy or no. If I take my eye off the EVF to use a touch screen, I might lose a shot. However, a flippy EVF like on the old medium format film cameras would be hugely valuable. If this announcement means that we are not getting a decent APS-C camera, I'm selling all my APS-C gear. Wildlife, which doesn't want to contrast with its background, is the ultimate test of an autofocus system.
@madtoffelpremium83245 жыл бұрын

This is an amazing, incredible camera. No doubt. I however don't think it is much of an improvement from the previous A7Riii model, which was already a spectacular camera. A lot of people seem to be jumping on the hype of a 61MP sensor, but honestly if you've already been shooting with the A7Rii, D810, 5DsR or their subsequent models, you will know that above 40MP there is not much valuable difference in adding more resolution. Those who think this camera is a substitute for medium format due to the pixel shift, mind you those 210MP is still from a smaller sensor. The whole point of a medium format is to have that larger sensor with better light exposure and superior depth of field rendition. To say that the 210MP makes it as good as Medium Format is the same as saying a 40MP phone camera is as good as an entry level dslr

Absolutely mindblowing medium-format-level specs for just $3500. 15 stops of dynamic range and the ability to produce 61/240 mp images puts it on par with $40,000+ Hasselblad and Phase One systems, but having 5 axis IBIS, eye af, 10 fps shooting, and a broad range of focus points puts this camera beyond them in many respects. Sure, it's definitely overkill for the majority of consumers, but for budding fine art photographers like myself who can't afford to sell a kidney for a medium format kit, this is the best thing we could ever ask for. Only thing I'm slightly disappointed about is the 2 UHD-II SD card slots...would have preferred 2 CFast slots for faster read/write speeds (or the EVEN FASTER CFexpress cards but that's pretty new technology), but you can't have everything.

Question... at 3:22 you say not to buy it if you plan to go in crop mode. Can you elaborate on why not? One of the things I miss about Canon when I started switching over to Sony gear is that the 7Dii was a crop sensor that could almost hang with my full frame bodies for image quality, so I'd shoot sports with that & suddenly my 70-200 has a 300 reach, my 400 has a 600 reach, and I'm not giving anything up. So I've been waiting anxiously for Sony to release a similarly awesome APS-C body & that will apparently never happen but this thing in crop mode still delivers a bigger image than my 7Dii would've and does it with all the full frame glitz & glamour of full frame. So...it seems to me like they came up with a good "best of both worlds" scenario. 61MP for most shooting situations, and a dang good 26MP crop sensor when I want more reach. 2 bodies for the price of 1...am I wrong? Though I don't see myself actually switching to crop mode so much as just shooting full frame and cropping to whatever I choose in post, but knowing I'll have the image data there to do that is a huge win & makes me feel like I've got a lot more reach with a 70-200 than I do with say a a7iii. Am I missing some disadvantages I should be aware of?

That makes some sense. Sony has to come to grips with the fact that any video upgrade is going to demand some kind of professional quality video. When they put out the A7 and A7S, they had the only FF mirrorless systems, of course... though Panasonic had already done better video. But now everyone's offering at least 10-bit video, Pansonic has it in-camera on multiple models, M43 or FF. And no 30 minute limit. And 4Kp60. And under/overcranking. And professional bitrates. And DCI-4K as well as UltraHD 4K. Sony can get away with consumer class video options on non-video-oriented cameras. But for their video flagship, they really need serious video, or they're well on their way to becoming the next Canon in ways other than their desire to dominate FF.

Help clarify something for me. Full frame 4K downsampled from 6K. How is that possible on a 61 MP camera? Isn't it cropped to get it down to the Super 35? DP Review says it's cropped to Super 35 and then an additional 1.2 crop. Did they say at the conference it's full Super 35 frame? I just don't see a camera using 61 MP to output 8 MP. Someone please chime in their findings. I can't seem to find a clear answer on this. Thanks.

8bit 4K 4:2:0???? No 60p is unbelievable in 2019. Fujifilm GFX100, Panasonic S1, S1R, S1H, and now Sigma FP are much more innovative cameras. There's a 18mp bump there, but other than that, it's just a $1000 A7RIII firmware update.

You’re asking for specs that would be found in the A7s model not the A7r. This is a photo oriented camera.

Does it preview at 1:1 zoom fast? Or do we wait and wait like on the A7R2? Such a shame that they cannot provide memory to preview while writing. I appreciate you making a point of this, as it really is key feature...as well as playback 1:1 preview. Wow, a lot to like, yet the electronics, and menu are 2 main areas that needed improving, and while the ergo is nice, the EVF improvement is really nice, as well as focusing, but I would buy a less megapixel version IF!... the things you and I mentioned were improved. I give ZERO attention to video...great that it has what it does. Also, for those with ergo issue on the R2 or R3...Get yourselves a LBracket that has a adjustable bottom rail. For under $30 I got an amazing L bracket that completely makes holding the camera a joy. Its like a mini Mamiya RZ with this handle on the side.Best thing I got for it. Still hate using this camera on occasion due to poor electronics, and tether connections....Which is another point they might have improved.

Are you excited??? No Poor video, 100Mbps , 8 bit , large crop no Lossless compressed Raw Stacking 16 frames?! Minor changes to the ergonomics, low res LCD with worthless touch. Eye AF for video hidden deep in the Sony style (bad) menus.

Why change to CF-Express? Why not just upgrade to SD-Express instead when those cards become available.
@stanspb7635 жыл бұрын
there are very good reasons for the superior XQD card system over consumer grade SD. One being more rugged mechanical packaging. Another is the protected contacts. But the biggest reason is the bus architecture being 30 years more advance, reliable, faster, and error detecting/correcting of the PCIe+ standard and the same reason you expect your SSD network drive to be more reliable than a 5.25 inch floppy disk because that is the buses used on the two different card systems

If you get a chance, I’d be interested in knowing how the rolling shutter is on the A7R IV compared to the A7R III. I’m hoping that with the pixel shift and faster frame rates, that Sony has eliminated most if not all of the rolling shutter issues.
