@Omar Williams My point was that he probably did a very smart thing, to start braking before the planned spot, whether from concerns about how the braking zone was chosen, or instinctive fear of death. Braking distance/problems from 300 to 0 might have become a different animal than 270 to 0, and doing it from 286 was a big enough jump for one run versus another, until he has a better idea of how the braking phase changes at increasingly higher speeds.. Hitting 300 or the previously claimed 331 and then having tires or brakes fail to stop the car wouldn't be good. Building up the speed a little more each run, rather than going for a big jump in speed, might avoid a disaster by having things go a bit wrong but not fatally wrong as you approach whatever the disaster speed is. There is pretty surely a speed at which something stops working as hoped. He took enough chances as it was. Having fans wish he kept his foot on the pedal longer, isn't a good enough reason to do so. Neil Armstrong was asked 1000 times whether he was scared going to the moon. Usually the answer was about confidence in equipment and training, focus on mission, that a little fear is useful for being super alert to danger, etc. But one time his answer was more along the lines that "Putting my pink little body into a tin can on top of a huge rocket full of propellant, with some parts made by the lowest bidders, and then leaving Earth way behind, was of course scary. No matter how good you are at flying it, you can't be sure you'll make it home to the wife and kids OK. We knew it, but loved doing the job we signed up for." I'm paraphrasing, but definitely remember the "pink little body" part as a direct quote, which I cannot now find the source of.

Can you imagine if they re-run the record in Nevada and this crappy car can not pull 331? They cheated once and now reruning the record pretending to be the nice guys. Buhu, cheaters. @PERRIERhp3 жыл бұрын
Chiron did it only in 1 way run, not 2 way run like Tuatara did and the previous record holder, Agera RS. To be official and verifiable, the car must go in 2 direction and get the average speed out of the two run. It's even more impressive when you acknowledge that Tuatara did it in 2.3 miles run from zero. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Since the owner was driving again do we know if they still had the boost on the turbos reduced like they did on their last attempt a couple months back. If so that can be so pretty scary number once everything is at max.
@inerfyr3 жыл бұрын
Yes the boost and power was limited, and only supplied full power in the second half of 7th gear. This is why you can see the sudden jump in acceleration from 274 to 286. They plan on removing some of the detuning for the next run, to allow full boost and power in the earlier gears, most likely 4th through 7th. They detuned it for the drivers safety, as he does not have much experience at 250+mph
