Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video we are talking about the best toner every and one which can hydrate the skin, soothe irritation, tackle hyperpigmentation and is gentle enough for all skin types. The Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence review
When it comes to toners we have a lot of choice for our skincare routine and I have tried many over the past couple of years. Not only is the Secret Key essence my favourite Korean toner or essence but it is the best one I have tried for a long time and I think it could make a wonderful addition for your skin care routine.
Galactomyces ferment is a popular ingredient in skincare with scientific data now pointing to its ability to increase the levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin, fade hyperpigmentation and provide some antioxidant protection.
I think this essence will fade hyperpigmentation, increase skin hydration and calm and soothe the skin and in this video I want to explain to you why its more than just a SK-II treatment essence dupe and actually a wonderful toner in its own right.

I tried the Sk2 essence/toner. It felt like just putting water on my face. Water that does not absorb or evaporate as fast as actual water but still water. I'd compare the feeling of using Sk2 to how my skin feels after applying Bioderma sensibio toner. Probably does something but I cannot feel it or see it 😂

There are so many ingredients in the market that claim to stimulate collagen production. Most notably Retinol, Retinaldehyde, Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Bifida and Peptides. I wonder how they compare and haven't seen a quantitative analysis from anyone. I am wondering if you can cover this sometime.

Yes, I use this followed by the Tiam vita b5 toner. I'm powering through them! I like essences because like you say Rob you can use them in between steps or when you also need a refresh. The bottle is lovely, I like the glass. Maybe a little heavy for travelling, but nice for at home.

The Potions makes a 100% Galactomyces ampoule-I’m on my third bottle. It’s a lovely adjunct ingredient that I use before The Ordinary’s Argireline and Matrixyl steps. Definitely agree with you on this one!

I've only used the Iunik one, and I really like it 😊 First I bought 3 serums from Secret Key Iunik and I noticed the one I like best was the galactomyces one so I decided to get it in a toner form because it was really hydrating. At first I didn't see any special results but my skin ended up loving it. I just purchased my second bottle.

Hi Rob I've been using ferments in skincare for years. i've tried this one, a few of the incarnations of the Missha one, the cosrx one, the Neogen one and I have tried some others. My current favourite is the Benton fermentation essence. Whilst galactomyces is the first ingredient it also has Bifida and some other good ingredients. It's available at a decent price point usually somewhere and my super sensitive skin loves it. I also really like the Neogen, but it is more expensive. I liked the plain Secret Key version fine, but I like the Benton better and having the Bifida gives extra benefits. My skin seems to respond well to fermented ingredients and you know how finnicky it is with a whole host of other ingredients lol. Best wishes.

I love galactomyces. I use the one from manyo factory. In fact I actually just did a video on it a few weeks ago. I put it on the backs of my hands as well and I am noticing they are looking a lot better. I love using Korean fermented skin care.

Thanks Rob for the recommendation. Heard SCINIC's Galactomyces first essence does a better job than Secret Key in terms of comparison with SK-II's performance. Do give the SCINIC a try!

I heard some good things about Secret Key's products in general and this product specifically. However, I am not big about galactomyces because brightening or antiaging is not my main concern....yet 😂 I did buy their aloe soothing moist toner after they started selling them nearby because I watched Gothamista's video on hydrating toners and this was one of the products that was recommended. It's far too early to say anything about the aloe toner, but it IS very nice. Lightweight, hydrating, cooling, and the bottle cap is convenient too.

Thanks for the great video! I've .been using the SOME BY MI - Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Glow Toner. I think it's changed my skin, I've been using it for a month and my skin has gotten very even toned. This has 88% Galactomyces and it's listed as the first ingredient. I use survival 0 or pygnogenol as an antioxident step. But I love this stuff. Highly recommend.

Hi Rob, I'm curious since you try a lot of new products at the same time over weeks -- what is your method for determining which product has had what effect on your skin? For example, if you've been using this toner for the past few months, and The Ordinary amino acids for the past few months, when you see amazing results how do you know which one did it? No shade meant, I'm just curious since I often start trying several new products around the same time and struggle with knowing which ones are actually worth keeping vs swapping out of my routine.

Yes this happens to me as well! I recently just discontinued a product I’ve used for 2 years Niod CAIS just to see what it is I’m using that’s actually making a difference. I’m so good about sunscreen and skincare but I stopped CAIS because my lower face seems to be drooping a bit. I’m only 38 so having jowels isn’t something that excites me but only since adding CAIS has my face been dripping. It’s likely not the product but age. I have a really hard time knowing what it is that’s making skin better when I try tons of new products which I’m so guilty of. Trying to go by process of elimination and calm down with new skincare products

Hi hun, this is such a good point.. I love that some people think I mix things up a lot and other comments I get is im boring and keep recommending the same things lol.. I guess it comes down to intuition, I think the ordinary amino acids is doing great things for my winter skin but I have seen an improvement with my hyperpigmentation and I would put it down to this.. its not an exact science and different people will have different results with products but thats really how I try and tell.. hope this makes sense and sending you lots of love xxxxxx

I find some ferments work better for me than the others. My skin loves rice and soy ferments, saccharomyces, lactobacillus and bifida, but not Galactomyces. I get fungal acne from Galactomyces.

Ohh this is just like the Scinic galactomyces essence they’re incredibly similar. I liked it a lot during the summer and am 3/4th of the way through the 3rd bottle. Now all the sudden the weather is getting super cold here in the US and now I’m not sure if it’s doing anything for me. I rotate between the Secret key and the Scinic and have probably been through 2 bottles of each. I noticed this summer it was super hydrating under everything but now it’s not quite enough. I am hoping it’s actually doing something for my skin. I love these essences but now I’m using the Benton fermentation essence ontop of it just because of the weather

I started my journey with galactomyces a few months ago with the Scinic FTE and loved it. However I am now trying the SK2 since I need to know what the hype is about before I can assess the dupes if you know what I mean? I’m about 3 weeks in and it makes my skin so smooth and hydrated I can’t stop touching my face (I’m a face toucher anyway!). I do have a bottle of the Secret Key Rose edition in my stash but it’s super difficult to get hold of in Thailand at the moment. I have enough Sk2 to last me a year so let’s see if their claims are true and I look 10 years younger at the end of it 😂😂 I would say the Scinic and the Sk2 are very similar but the Sk2 gives just that little bit more bounce to the skin…or am I just trying to justify the high price of the Sk2!!

I was choosing between the Secret Key and the Mizon First Essence. I ended up going with First Essence and it's amazing. With a few layers it's giving me glass skin, which I don't like... But if I put an SPF on top, it feels beautiful. I'll be sure to try Secret Key as well, thanks! They really tried to have the same initials as SK, huh? Btw, did you find any that you like even more in the last year? I went full in and waiting for haruharu, Vegan Kombucha and Anua 77% to arrive 😅

I have been “building” my Black Friday shopping list for the last couple of weeks - and I actually have the Secret Key essence on the list. Recommendation from MrsMellisaM here on YT. She especially recommended to use it with Bifida Ferment Lysate (I use Isntree TW real Bifida ampoule, which is fantastic). Benton has a product that combines Galactomyces and Bifida - called Benton Fermentation Essence (that is on my list too 😜)

@@helenalovelock1030 I have used the Benton Fermentation Essence for about 6 months now and like it very much. It has helped my dehydrated skin a lot. It is almost back to normal. So if you have the same issues, I can highly recommend.
