In Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island", Nemo is described as the son of an Indian raja.

Out of interest, Jules Verne originally wrote Nemo as a Polish nobleman, but his publisher was worried it would tank book sales in Russia so made Verne change him to Indian Raja.

Originally, Verne intended Nemo to be Polish, then censorship kicked in threatening demonetization due to the war with Russia (yes, that was basically what happened, look it up) and so he just never mentioned it in the original book and layer changed his ethnicity to Indian in "The Mysterious Island".

Bares repeating, Disney, you f*cked up. This is gold and an adventure that's missing in the market place. I hope they give credit to where it is due, Nemo created the Nautilus. The show seems to hint that those European powers built it and that Nemo stole it. Nemo was the creator of the Nautilus because being an Indian Prince he had access to the ancient Veda text that contains details of the lost technology. In fact, Oppenheimer was inspired by those same texts to develop the atomic bomb and quoted a line from the ancient text after doing so...“Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds”. These words are from the Sanskrit scriptural text the Bhagavad Gita.
@generalilbisАй бұрын
Certainly, it would explain how Nemo and his crew of fellow escaped prisoners stole the Nautilus successfully from (Im presuming) the East India Company... Nemo is her architect and supervised her construction for the EIC under duress.

The problem with many of these new series is the lack of big stars or those who have potential to be big stars. One of the main reason old movies/series became hit were because we rooted for the main characters. Only flop movies had main characters we never cared about. Just by looking at these cast I don't see anybody interesting, so I'm sure it will be boring even if I haven't seen pilot episode. When you do big budget, you must really invest in good casting agents. I don't have much hope for this one. But I will still watch piolt episode just to see how they spend their money

In the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea the Nautilus is built from components made at different locations around the world and then shipped to a secret desert island.The metal sheets of it's hull are made at 'Lairds of Liverpool (in reality Lairds of Birkenhead just opposite Liverpool). The hull of a submarine is basically the whole structure (c80-90% of the tonnage) and even moreso in a submarine with a double hull such as the Nautilus. In 2022 Birkenhead ember of Parliament Mick Whitley confirmed that Jules Verne based his sequel novel Mysterious Island on Birkenhead and the Wirral Peninsula.
