Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie actually grew up and sang together. They added Kevin and Avi for The Sing Off. Avi left the group on good terms. They tour non-stop and his mom was ill. He actually helped select Matt as his replacement. On top of being an incredible beatboxer, Kevin also plays cello, piano, saxophone, speaks Mandarin, and was pre-med in college. If I hadn't seen him in physical form, I'd think he was made up. 😂😂 Take a look at some of his solo stuff. He does brilliant covers, cleverly called KOvers (KO is his initials). Down and Sign of the Times are my favorites. He's seriously a one man band.

You see someone knock back a drink as Mitch takes off and you think, "Bad call." Overall, an engaging and insightful take on amazing assemblage of talent.

The guy that sang fourth (dark haired with a hat) is Mitch. He not using falsetto; his voice range is called contra tenor (pretty rare), though he can sing in the baritone range as well. He's rumored to have a five octave range! Scott, the tall blond, has a four octave range and handles bass when the regular bass (Ari/Matt) has a solo. Ari (Jesus-looking gentleman with the beanie) had to leave the group for personal reasons. The split was so amicable that Avi helped find his successor, Matt. A mild warning: Kirsten/Kirstie and Mitch change their appearance FREQUENTLY. Kirstie is a mezzo soprano & the longer she with Pentatonix, the more sultry her voice has become. In my opinion (for whatever it's worth) is that Kirstie has transformed from a cute Chica to an Aztec goddess in the last nine years. You can see the evolution by watching them in the KZbin Official Videos "Sing" and then in "Mad World". Kevin, the beatbox artist, also plays cello so well he won second place in a Yoyo Ma cello competition. He's played Carnegie Hall. He also performs what he calls "cellobox". He also speaks WHILE beatboxing in "Problem". When he sings, his range is from a wonderfully sweet tenor to mid-range baritone. The dude was even pre-med when he got invited into the Pentatonix. The group sings mostly covers (done their own style), some "Evolution of . . ." medleys, & a few originals. They've won three Grammys, for "Daft Punk Medley", "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", which is purely vocal without words, and their session of "Jolene" with Dolly Parton. Their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" is marvelous, "Daft Punk Medley" a fun surprise, "Say Something" emotive & "Imagine" as relevant as John Lennon would wish. They have quite a bit of Christmas music. There's a traditional "Mary Did You Know" and a less traditional version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" & "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful". Originals include "Love Again", done in Cybergoth costume, & "Be My Eyes". Along with their collaboration with Dolly Parton, they've collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Miley Cyrus, the Backstreet Boys, Jason Derulo, Reba McEntire, Jennifer Nettles, The John Williams Orchestra, & Lindsey Stirling (see "Radioactive"). They also sing in French ("Papaouti"), Japanese ("Perfume Medley"), & Korean ("Gangnam Style"). Ok, so this is crazy long. Sorry. You should also know that the music I've included here is the merest of brushes with their catalog. Pentaholics (like me) get enthusiastic sometimes. If you like their music, see ya down the Pentatonix rabbit hole - it's a happy place. Welcome.

Nope, it's a falsetto if it's head voice, where this is a chest and mix voice. He is just a high tenor with a very high natural speaking (i.e. chest) voice.

The name pentatonix is derived from the pentatonic scale in music. It has 5 base notes, they have 5 members.. clever play on words.

BTW according to the author of this song Leonard Cohen it is not a religious song and certainly not Christian. Cohen is Jewish as is the bass singer (second soloist with the beard and long hair Avi Kaplan).

They weren't in Pitch Perfect, but The Sing-Off and PTX were basically the inspiration for it!
