Inside Windsor Castle - Part 2 - Windsor Castle is the oldest, largest continually inhabited castle in the world.
Inside Windsor Castle (2017)
Stars: Roxana Lupu, Arthur Tomsevics, Bernardo Santos
Genre: Documentary, Biography, History
Country: United Kingdom
Language: English
Release Date: February 14, 2017 (United Kingdom)
Synopsis:
This brand new series will mark the centenary of the Windsor dynasty by delving deep behind the imposing walls of the castle to unlock its secrets - and chart the extraordinary 80-year inside story of Britain’s most famous family.
Today, the Castle is a vast Palace with hundreds of staff, billions of pounds’ worth of art and 5000 acres of parkland. It’s the iconic centrepiece, the shop window, of the Royal backdrop to countless photo calls, state banquets, and lavish royal events.
But over the last 80 years it’s also been the stage on which the most spectacular, difficult and simply mind-boggling chapters in the personal lives of Elizabeth and her family have played out.
Former castle insiders like Dickie Arbiter, Paul Burrell, and Brian Hoey, royal confidantes like Richard Kay and Andrew Morton, historians like Kate Williams and Anne de Courcy offer a unique and privileged account of the key events, the tragedies and triumphs that have gripped a nation for nearly a century - and made the place what it is today.
With the help of dramatic reconstruction and an extraordinary variety of archive film, Inside Windsor Castle reveals what life is - and was - really like behind those imposing walls for the world’s most famous family.
HAPPY FAMILIES
1952 - 1972
In 1952 26 year old Elizabeth became Queen. She and Philip made Windsor Castle the family home with their two children. But she alone faced the conflicting demands of managing her job and her widowed mother, her wayward sister and restless husband.
FOUR DIVORCES AND A FIRE
1972 -1992
Through the 70’s and 80’s the Queen upheld the image of a large happy royal family. But over 20 years, there was one family scandal after another. Princess Margaret’s affairs led to the first royal divorce; more followed. The image was destroyed.
Reviews:
"This 4 part documentary combines newsreel footage with dramatic recreation to tell the story of Windsor Castle during Elizabeth II's lifetime. It is divided into time periods 1992-2016, 1932- 1952, 1952-1972 and 1972-1992. I believe it provides the most comprehensive modern history while also managing to be entertaining as well."

The Mother a party-girl, the sister a party-girl, the husband a party-boy, one son in an inglorious sense much more than a party boy, an other son unfaithful in marriage, a grandson with excesses and missteps, and these are only the known things. Only Elisabeth with the seriousness and focus that befits a royal family, who has to cover all this up and straighten it out. Unbelievable. In normal life this would not be a family of honor.

Family dynamics can be complex, especially under public scrutiny. Each member's actions don't define the entire family's values, but it's understandable to have diverse opinions.

depends on what you want to focus on - that particular family spends hundred and thousands of hours a year at the service of others and i think thats quite noble and honorable indeed - you may too if you compare it to the amount of time you dedicate to others in a charitable way, i know i sure dont give back nearly as much as they do...

That "family honor" theme is unfair to the humans who filled those mandated roles, or within other families as well. When I was young in the South, though, that was a huge issue and I think in New England it is as well. It isn't about honor, but about status. By the time I was 30 years old (the 1980s), society had loosened up considerably, and to be from "a good family" was not quite as important and individual achievement was increasingly valued, at least in the USA. When I was 40, individual weaknesses had become much less rigidly judged, so that a person with a mental or emotional condition even if it were genetic was no longer reason to simply throw that soul (and the rest of their family members), onto the garbage heap of society. Mental/emotional conditions were being given help rather than shamed to a much greater degree. That is progress, and the way things need to be. When privilege allows those who commit wrongs to be shielded from all blame that is deeply wrong, but to imply that a character like Prince Andrew is really worse than your father or my father if they commit the same actions -- and many, many men do on a daily basis -- the real difference is that princes are required to have the appearance of perfection. When human beings, with flaws and weaknesses as well as personal virtues and gifts, are born into such an environment it is no blessing, but a heavy responsibility. Queen Elizabeth did stand up to that and keep her head on straight under the pressure much better than most do. She was actually pretty extraordinary, I think. For people who are simply less able to cope with it all to stumble and fall is no more a scandal than for you or me to have done so in our lives. I pretty much think "family honor" is a sham under all conditions. Read Bronte's Wuthering Heights or Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie. Understanding, empathy and mercy are such important human virtues. I have watched that set of Royals for most of my life and found them fascinating. I see royals as humans and not icons, being American, and I think that all in all they have been a pretty sturdy group. In no way would I want to have lived that life. End of sermon.

Diana was 20 when she married Charles ! They did NOT date for 2 years ! She was 19 when they started dating dated for less than year when they were married . she was 20 when she married him . This documentary makes it sound like they dated for 2 years cuz you said 18 nope she was 19 ! By Diana own version she was 19 when they started dating . Charles dated her older sister for awhile too which gives me the creeps . Diana family wanted that marrige just as much as the royal family did

@@Official_Royalworld That is such a sensitive & well thought out reply to this comment. The way I see it is that members of the GB Royal family have disposed of inconvenient spouses & ex-spouses for centuries. Charles wouldn't dare have a public beheading of Diana as his forebearers did with their spouses & former spouses. Death by car crash was more palatable to the public. If Dianas death had been the suspicious death of any other "commoner", Charles would be under heavy investigation. As a member of the GB Royal family, he didn't even get a tap on the hand.

🙄 this man’s “proof” is putting his and his son’s pictures next to those of the RF and saying “see! I-dentical.” I’ve seen pictures of people from the 1890s that look more like modern day celebrities, than this guy looks like Charles & Camilla. If it were true that Charles & Camilla had a love child together at 17/18, I doubt they would have risked exposure by dating later on.

39:12 cracks me up that they state that Prince Charles and Princess Anne were “good looking“. Neither one of them were particularly good looking, they just are VERY average… With Anne probably being a little bit more attractive than Prince Charles a guy who has never struck me as someone I would consider “handsome “ AT ALL. They were popular because of who they were. That’s it.

Philip may have been the man of the house but it wasn’t his house. He may have been the head of the family but he wasn’t head of state. I still don’t get why he made such a big deal about his name. Mountbatten was his uncle’s name, not his. He had only been using it since he dropped his Greek titles in order to marry the QEII. His last name should have been the name of the Greek royal house - Glücksburg.
