Horror covers scary and depressing. Notice how there is no "sad" genre? Now, non-horror movies can also be depressing but if the entire plot is just dark, sad and a child could be scarred by it but there are no monsters or things like that, it's a horror that is depressing more than scary.

My dog was put down recently. A little panic at random people (the two vets that came to our house). Was fine with the first needle, but he saw the needle. He panicked when he saw the second one. Probably didn't know he was going to die, probably was just scared of the pain from the needle. The vet told us his brain would be shutting off and that he would be in his head for a few seconds. I think the most terrifying part to a dog would be the potential panic of all the sudden you just lost control to your body and all you can do is think.
