“Ring around the rosie” Was a children’s skipping song but was about the Black Plague. “Ring around the rosie” referred to the circular spots the plague caused on its victims, “Pocket full of posies” was the the flowers and other aromatic items people kept with them in an effort to avoid the plague (which was thought to be caused by ‘bad air’, so pleasant scents/perfume was thought to ward it off.) “Ashes, Ashes, we all fall down” was falling to the disease and death as well as the bodies being burned because there were too many to be buried and nowhere to bury them.
