@@anweshchatterjee7595 There's bowling averages then there's the actual bowling in the prevailing conditions against the batsmen and you also skipped right past the part where I mentioned his attitude, which is extremely rare and which will never appear on any bowling statistics analysis. They don't hand out Wisden cricketer of the year awards to minor players. So, if all you have is one data point like a bowling average to bring to the discussion and a "lol" as an attempt to make some kind of nebulous point about how amusing you find it all, you don't really have anything.

I had these highlights recorded onto tape and watched them frequently. I remember everything in this video, from the wickets, to the celebrations, the commentary (back when Mark Nicholas was listenable and uncorrupted by his later Aussie colleagues) to even the cuts, edits and voice overs. England had such a great bowling line-up in that series. Gough, Caddick, Cork and White were all incredibly dangerous in those conditions.

I was at this game watching from the football ground end. The second day started with so much trepidation, England building themselves a lead. @Wally-H
@Wally-H 4 жыл бұрын
Indeed, I'm left handed and I much prefer the ball angling across towards the slips from a right arm over bowler. As a left hander you tend to develop playing strong shots off your legs when the ball comes straight down the line of leg or middle and leg, as it often does from right arm bowlers, and square on the offside & cover-driving as the ball drifts across you a lot. If a bowler can get it to swing and / or seam back in it always causes problems. It's a difficult skill especially for club players. Class bowlers like Gough and Caddick showing how it's done in this video - superb bowling.

AAhh... that beautiful dark red ball, it’s spring, swing in the air, lovely and just getting me in the mood to run in hard and bowl a few down the pitch. Lovely feeling. Always enjoyed watching Caddick and Gough bowl.

When you replay this extraordinary footage and see what Gough and Caddick could do you wonder how they only averaged 28/29 over their careers. Gough is an especial Misterio.

A 28 or 29 average aint bad man. In the grand scheme of things if your career average is below 30 with a pretty good strike rate, I think you have done pretty well as a bowler.

He was easily one of the unluckiest bowlers I've ever seen. With a little more good fortune, he would have ended with vastly better career figures
