Sat next to a couple of Aussies at this same ground back in 2019 as they put us to the sword. They both said that there was only one Englishman that they feared and respected - Ben Stokes - likening him to Botham and Flintoff. He'd shortly afterwards play that magnificent innings at Headingley. Stokes is such an entertaining cricketer and has already done enough to ensure his place amongst our greatest all-rounders of all time.

As an England fan, even I'd say that's stretching it a bit. Gary Sobers and Jacques Kallis have better figures in their careers. That's not to knock Stokesy....he has something else that these other two didn't have, and that is the ability to lead men on the pitch, and to get others, especially new players, to feel relaxed and bring their "A" game.
