Amazing documentary. I'm from Italy, 35yo, and i've been researching Surround Sound audio creation/mixing since I was 15yo. Started with a small AIO Home Theater, then I moved on to actual Pro Tools/Dolby/DTS technologies and a proper pro HT. Other than that, in the past 3 years, I also studied A LOT about screenwriting as well, and I actually thought about writing a feature script as well. I'm from Sicily, so there are actually no people in my area from the industry. I should probably move to the USA someday.

The film industry is a freelance industry. So there will be a point when you'll have to leave your day job to work full time in film. Fortunately, we teach people in safely transitioning from their current day job into working in film! It takes 10 months but its worth it if your goal is to have a career in film. I AGREE about being on set but I have NO IDEA how to get on professional sets. I'm currently the sole videographer at a church and my time is very flexible but I know that randomly emailing professionals is going to get me ignored because they don't know me. How can I start building relationships with these people to even have the CHANCE to work for free on these professional sets??

Hey Janet! I got your course for FIF years ago. Lots of travel vlogging and life experiences later.. im back! Ill be returning to all course work today and getting my butt into gear here in my local sector of Chicago. Not going to lie, the idea of film school and making friends plus the college experienceat UCLA seems quite twinkly, however i realize that im really interested in working in the film industry doing what i love first and foremost. Instead of making friends with students its more important and literally the entire point to be on set, making collegeaus, and actually getting paid

I am very sorry to say NONE of this has worked for me at all. I'm an award-winning filmmaker here in the UK and its a lot harder that you are making out. I've been making films for 24 years and I currently have 5 films in 86 film festivals and I have not got an agent or am working in the industry. Though, I am filming my 3rd feature, I currently am not working, not because I choose not to. We have a recession in the UK and its horrible.

That's unfortunate to hear. The issue here is that we need to make more connections with people who work on the big stuff full time. Union people. You're stuck in the indie world and if you want to make money you'll need to move into the bigger stuff. We teach a business principle called 80/20. Starting out, spend 80% of your time as an assistant on big stuff and 20% of your time on indie stuff working in your craft. Then the people on the big stuff will pull you into your craft on their big budget jobs. Right now you're spending 100% of your time on the indie stuff instead of 20%. If you want to learn more and dive deeper into this then click the link to learn more about what we do and the schedule a call to dive into your specific situation. www.friendsinfilm.com/get-in/

Most jobs in film are grunt jobs like Grips, Painters, etc... If you want a DP job or a writing job or Directing the competition is through the roof.
@officialfriendsinfilm3 ай бұрын
Being a grip or painter requires special skills. Not anyone can do those jobs, it's not grunt work. Union members will make about $650/12hrs and have a nice career. Yes. All film jobs are competitive. That's why a lot of people want to work in film but don't know how. Most of the work only goes to a select few. We teach our students how to become one of those select few. If you want to learn more then go here: www.friendsinfilm.com/get-in/
@DAMON4093 ай бұрын
@@officialfriendsinfilm Painters make about 300 bucks a day, not $650 They work 8-10 .hour days, not 12 usually. Im a member of IATSE, so keep that in mind. Yes, you need training before applying. But when you have the training, you can simply sign up to IATSE. No need to hang around film sets and kiss asses, which won't work anyway. You teach your students to be the select few? They don't need you; they need the skill set, which means going to film school or getting training and experience in a specific area.
