The last time I thought about Jeff Komlo was when he was featured on "America's Most Wanted" as he was in Europe scrambling from US law enforcement. He died in Greece in 2009.

I just looked it up and he was on America's Most Wanted for skipping his sentence hearing for 2 drunk driving convictions. I'm not trying to diminish the serious problem with drunk driving, because it's awful and more times than not tragic, but to be on America's Most Wanted for drunk driving was a little extreme in my opinion. With all the killers our there, and sex predators and all the other scumbags I really thought they would take priority over drunk driving.

I remember reading a sports illustrated like ten years ago about that, he also was a suspect in a mansion arson of his new girlfriend after he left his wife and daughters. It might be on the internet somewhere but if memory serves correct Komlo had multiple problems in eastern PA and was a court room regular.

The coin landing on it's side is a major plot point in the classic 1939 film "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" starring Jimmy Stewart. Komlo was later convicted on 2 drunk driving charges, fled the country and was featured on "America's Most Wanted". He died in Greece in 2009 in circumstances that initially made authorities briefly think he was trying to fake his own death. Wow.

@@david-468 he shoved his girlfriend out of a car that he was driving while drunk, crashed that car, then went home, got another car, and also crashed that one. He fled the country to avoid sentencing on the two DUI incidents (and probably also shoving his girlfriend out of a moving vehicle). He ran all the way to Greece to avoid punishment for his crimes. Is it really all that surprising that law enforcement would think he'd go as far as to fake his own death? Especially given the fact he had wrecked two cars in the very crimes he was charged with.

Incidentally, I worked with a guy in 2015 that broke his ankle playing ping pong. I know that he really did break it that way because I was the guy he was playing against. He went running to chase after a loose ball, stepped down wrong, and ended up in the hospital lol

First of all another PHENOMENAL video! I have a question not related to the video but it is about the Lions. On December 17,1977 ABC had a special edition of Monday Night Football on Saturday night. This game was the last game of the regular season and it was the Minnesota Vikings at the Detroit Lions at the Silverdome. Kickoff was at 10:00pm eastern time. I'm just wondering why did they make such a late time for Kickoff? Detroit is in the eastern time zone so that's a late start, but it was a Saturday night so that made it a little better with no school on Sunday and most people off on Sunday, but it's still a late time to start, and I was wondering if you know why they had a late start time? Keep up the AWESOME WORK!

This is very similar to what happened in 1993 with Lazio not among teammates but instead among a player & his coach. The player in question England striker Paul Gascoigne & coach Dino Zoff did not see eye to eye on a lot of things especially when it came to diet. Zoff wanted his players to eat foods rich in carbs & low in fat so that they would have more energy during matches. However at this time Gascoigne was more known for partying in the nightclubs of Rome & drinking a lot of beer along with eating lots of fried food instead of his play. As a result he had gained 35 pounds in fat during a two month period. During a team Christmas party where everyone was watching of all things Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (I should point out that the players kids were invited to this party which is why this was on), Zoff decided to make a comment to Gascoigne along the lines of "Santa Claus is fat just like you." Like in this story, Gascoigne didn't take too kindly to the insult and punched Zoff in the face. Then Gascoigne attempted to grab a BB gun that was given to one of the players kids as a Christmas gift & shoot Zoff. Luckily he was stopped before that could happen. Remarkably not only did both Gascoigne & Zoff not get punished by the club for their behavior but Lazio was able to finish 4th in Serie A & qualify for European competition. Zoff would leave Lazio after the season citing this incident as a major reason why & Gascoigne himself would last one more year at the club that was mainly spent injured because he broke his leg in two places during a training session.

The 1979 Lions did have a half ass defense that kept them in some of those games, including the shutout that JG9 mentioned. But it's hard to play good defense when you have a short field to defend and your offense is a total sieve.

During the video, you talked about trying to find resources to determine the outcome, if any, of the lawsuit that Fatheringham filed against Jeff Komlo. I haven't used it myself, but the only such resource I know of is called Westlaw. I became aware of it when I used a college library many years ago. However, I don't know if it still exists or if it can be accessed online or only in person; in other words, you may have to go to the Detroit area if you wish to use it in this particular case (no pun intended).

Fun fact: if the Lions somehow manage to win one of their close games that they lost in RL in the 1979 season, the San Francisco 49ers would have had the #1 pick (they also went 2-14 in Bill Walsh's first season). If the 49ers draft Sims, and then draft Roger Craig in 1983, that would have been an good running back duo, IMO...

This sounds like a Detroit Lions thing to do. The 0.0 passer rating game that Komlo had is one I didn't know about until today. Of course, Bucs wanted him in the '80s, but it's the Bucs in the '80s, so it makes sense.

And as Pats fan at the time, it would be 6+ years before they beat the Dolphins in the orange bowl in at the time the biggest game in franchise history. The 1st 2 years Erhdhart era fell short of the playoffs, finishing 1-3 to finish 79 and didnt get any tiebreaker in their favor in '80 before collapsing to 2-14 in 81.
