This was also the same game where the Eagles' offense was impacted by the crowd noise. As a Dolphins fan, I will always miss the Orange Bowl and the home field advantage that stadium provided.

The noise especially in the west end was deafening. Fins uncoincidentally have not been to a Super Bowl, let alone win one, since moving to what is now Hard Rock.

Video of that is on YT last time I checked. Officials allowed Jaworski to refuse to run the play for about 5 minutes of real time, or almost an entire ad break's worth. Even the announcers thought it was ridiculous. And the crowd NEVER quieted down. Then after wasting everyone's time (literally) he throws the game-losing INT. Instant karma.

JG9, My other two favorite freak NFL injuries: 1. Gus Frerotte in 1997 whiplashing himself in the end zone wall after scoring a TD. Redskins ended up tying the Giants 7 all 2. Bill Gramatica in 2001 celebrating a first quarter field goal by jumping up .... and landed awkwardly busting his ACL.

Five weeks later, on January 2, 1982 during the AFC Divisional Playoff “Epic In Miami” vs. the Chargers, Duriel Harris would redeem himself for the freak injury by catching a Don Strock pass and then lateraling the ball to Tony Nathan in which he ran it in for a touchdown before the half and cutting the Dolphins’ deficit to seven at 24-17.

To borrow one from UK soccer - there was a very good striker in the 70's called Mick Channon , who had a signal celebration of swinging one of his arms in a windmill when he scored. One match Mick did his signature celebration.... and his arm froze. A minor shoulder dislocation took him out for 5 weeks. After that, instead of swinging it forwards, he swung it backwards, because he was told by his Doctors that it would be less wear and tear on his shoulder.

And he reinjured the shoulder prompting everyone not to swing their arms towards and backwards

I remember this guy getting hurt during this game...I saw it and never forgot. Also, during the Dolphins Chargers playoff game 34 days later in the same stadium at the same end of the field, about 10 feet away from Harris' injury, I saw Kellen Winslow almost do exactly the same thing on a touchdown pass from Dan Fouts, when he "dunked" the football over the goal post, and landed funny...I thought for sure he was hurt, but Winslow was OK...looking back, John Brodie, the color commentator of that game after that play said "Winslow almost pulled a Duriel Harris"

This video shows what a great coach Don Shula was as he defended Harris after his injury even though a week earlier Harris had rightfully criticized the play calling a week earlier in the Jets loss and instead of fining him or benching him Shula made sure he got the ball with 9 catches and the big TD catch that helped the Dolphins win this crucial game.
@andrewpadaetz55496 ай бұрын
This game also had a ton of noise that actually caused the ref (Red “First Dooooooowwwwwwnnn” Cashion) to go over to HC Don Shula to try and calm the crowd. Good luck with that at the craziness that was the Orange Bowl..maybe the loudest venue in the NFL at that time.

To your point, in fifth grade I scored a touchdown on the playground, but instead of jumping first I just spiked it straight into the asphalt and it bounced back and hit me right in the face. Go me! I also remember Brad Keselowski needing to get multiple stitches in his hand after winning the Cup race at Kentucky in 2014 when he tried unsuccessfully to pop open the celebratory champagne bottle and broke it.

I would've felt embarrassed if what happened to Harris happened to me, too. I can't get on him too much because he wasn't taunting the Eagles. He was doing something that was kind of commonplace and just had some bad luck.
