This Nick Gage match is more than likely Chris Jericho’s way of trying to get at all the critics who’ve criticized him for his bump at Blood & Guts and to prove to people how tough he is. But what he and others fail to realize is the majority of wrestling fans were not doubting Jericho’s toughness. We just said, hey if you’re gonna do a bump make sure it’s probably filmed so that it doesn’t look so clearly fake. Again that’s what the MAJORITY of us said. I will however, acknowledge that there were some people in the midst of the discussion who DID accuse Jericho of not being tough enough to take those kinds of bumps, but those people are a small minority who clearly know nothing about wrestling otherwise they wouldn’t make such dumb accusations towards Jericho knowing that’s FAR from the truth. I don’t even need to go in depth about Jericho’s toughness, and I’m not gonna waste my time doing so. But again the point is, this is clearly Jericho’s way of trying to prove a point to a few doubters on social media and it’s unnecessary and sad. I just hope he doesn’t continue listening to the naysayers and doesn’t end up having to regret later on signing up for this.

Jericho is one of the guys who can handle himself in AEW, assuming he isn't blown up at the time someone tries anything with him. FTR, maybe Jack Evans if his concussions haven't caught up with him yet, in spite of his slight frame, Miro, Willie Hobbs...maybe Brian Cage on sheer size but don't know. Jake Hager, even though he isn't showing it as much as he could. Lance Archer. Don't know who else I'd trust with Gage though. Maybe Moxley or Kingston, but they might be too trusting him, given their CZW roots.

I agree with Brian about the pizza cutter not coming across as that intimidating. Now I wouldn't want to get cut with one but in real life that would be an idiotic choice of weapon to threaten someone with. There is this funny element of deathmatch wrestling where the foreign objects rely on the fans knowing wrestling is a work in order to make any sense. A pizza cutter is used because it is something that would hurt and would cut someone but is still safe enough that it would be hard for someone to get seriously hurt from it. It's the paradox of no-dq wrestling where in theory a guy could bring a gun or a knife to the fight but for some reason picks something more benign or if they have a seriously dangerous weapon they use it in a way that makes no sense like Mr. Pogo slowly carving a guy with a butcher knife instead of just stabbing him or Triple H "poking" guys with a sledgehammer instead of caving their head in. In the kayfabe days there was some logic to what the foreign objects would be. Chairs got used because they were something at ringside that you could grab and swing. The first table spots involved announcer or timekeeper tables. Guys would use items like forks not because it's necessarily a great weapon but because it could be concealed and if you cut the guy open with it the ref could assume it was a "normal" cut that occurs in wrestling. But now it's like this weird wrestling reality where certain weapons are used but others never are.
