Hi Thanks for that. Good to see IHB at Blue Island. Also, at St. Louis, Missouri - there was a Tank-car at 09:20 with a Running-board and Centre Handrail + a load of equipment along the Tank-top. It's got Rivetted ends too. I just wondered what it was used for, thank you.

If buses can make the trip, why not the train? Nobody buys a train ticket to ride on a bus . . .
@zackbobby55508 ай бұрын
The rail will go different places than the road does, often along rivers and lower ground where it tends to be flatter. Storms impact rail very differently than roads. There are all kinds of things that roads won't survive but rail will, and things rail won't survive that roads will. Also, rail can generally be repaired/replaced MUCH faster than roads. In the case of inclement weather, a bus can stop easily if something is wrong. A train doing 90mph...

They couldn't get across the Bridge in Liberty because the water from the Trinity River.was too high. I rode Train #2 on May 14th.

It's a crying shame that this country, United States of America, cannot have - for whatever reasons - a decent passenger train service. Every passenger train takes a back seat to any and all freight trains which may happen to come along. If we want to have passenger service, the government should invest in the track to do so.

What train buffs refuse to understand is that 5 inches of rain in 2 hours can cause pretty serious damage. The host railroad calls the shots. If they say that Amtrak has to annul service because of track damage, then Amtrak has to comply.

Rail advocates FAIL to acknowledge something Congress does. Less than TWO percent of Americans have rode an Amtrak train long distance overnight. On the other hand EIGHTY percent have flown, and ONE HUNDRED percent use the highways one way or another, if only to push their wheelchair across it. The truth is Congress did not create Amtrak until the railroad operating the northeast corridor went bankrupt in the early 1970s after the US Government with the USPS terminated all of the railroads mail contracts. No longer are there a dozen or more mail cars on the railroads consists. The USPS chose to FLY the mail long distances more than FIFTY years ago, and truck the mail short distances before UPS and FedEx were a thing. The rationale hasn't changed either: HOURS INSTEAD OF DAYS! Mail delivered overnight or within a few days, not more than a week...

European rail usually doesn't get weather as bad as the USA. They get 1 hurricane every 50 years on average.

Metro must have had a contest to see how many ties (Limcoln Logs) they could cram onto a flat car
@marka54788 ай бұрын
First of all, it's METRA, not metro. Secondly, the flatcar was loaded with ties, not poles.

@@marka5478 missed the Metra mistake this spell check is annoying. Since Lincoln was from Illinois most of his life I'm sorry you didn't catch the joke

Nor is any other form of transportation... Hurricanes have cancelled ports of call with the cruise ships, blizzards and thunderstorms have closed airports, flooding and avalanches have closed highways...

We had some rather bad weather come blowing through and it was pretty bad over 5 inches in 2 hours😮

Amtrak has had to cancel trains due to weather events from flooding to avalanches before. This year the Sunset Limited, last year the Empire Builder, it seems every year a blizzard closes Donner Pass the California Zephyr uses... The truth is weather events lead to airline cancellations as well...
