The Olivier Awards with Mastercard are not only world-renowned, they’re the most sought-after and highly regarded accolade in British theatre. The awards have always marked true theatrical greatness and celebrated excellence in the industry. However, they have not always been how we know them today.
In 1976, the Society of West End Theatre (now known as the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) created an eponymous awards ceremony to celebrate the very best performers and creatives in the West End. Among the winners were Alan Howard, Peggy Ashcroft, Penelope Keith and Jonathan Miller.

That was a stellar performance! It was pretty close to Lea Salonga’s original clarity and pitch. Whilst I understand times have changed, I do appreciate the original score and intention of this musical. Sadly, I don’t think there will be another revival of this show. 😢

I prefer Lea's but this could be in my top 3. There were also a lot of understudies and alternates that deserved to be on spotlight. I"ve seen younger Julia Abueva singing this song effortlessly and with power. In Tanya's voice, similar to Lea's sweet tone and I heard that Joreen Bautista also did so well on her Westend run that some musical critic even chose her over Eva. I hope understudies and alternates would be given a chance as well.

​@@labellavita12 In a purely technical sense other performances might be on par or better, but none of them give me the same richness and intensity of emotions as Eva. Eva's presence, and her acting and singing choices, make me feel as though she is Kim, and that I am deeply connected to Kim through her. Likewise for her Eurydice, which I saw live not knowing her and was absolutely entranced. Eva is truly an otherworldly performer, incredibly underrated. She's one of the best we'll ever see.

Eva was robbed of both an Olivier and a Tony for her performance as Kim, none of the west end leading actress performances in 2014-15 even come close to Eva’s, certainly weren’t anywhere near as memorable!
