The last race the Audi went early by a car length, and won by the same margin. So the Golf was probably equal or a winner in the roll under a perfect equal start, as shown by the times.

Agreed, the RS6 and it’s driver are great but he was definitely accelerating well before the line, Anton would have won that one if he hadn’t of jumped. I’d expected the RS6 to win in the 1/4, it’s so effective off the line and the VW with a huge turbo and none of the modern tech isn’t likely to win.

I get it, saving a car, scared of braking driveshaft, but its build racecar. Get that launch controle up to boost that big turbo, and i bet hes at 3s to 100kmh (60mph)

Ratios don't seem to suit a launch for the golf. A dsg would make it lethal. I don't believe it has over 1000hp. It's got a hp and weight advantage over the Audi and should destroy it on the rolling starts

Exactly. That G Series is one big turbo. Think if they’d started the roll at a slightly faster speed the Golf would have got up a lot quicker. But even transient lag is an issue on a turbo that size. He needs rolling anti lag 😁

Could do with seeing dyno graphs of the cars that run these races. Peak power and peak torque only tell a fraction of the story. As for this one, if they started 15-20mph faster in the roll races the Golf might have actually been on boost when they went for it. Gives you an idea of the practicality of running a BT on the street, even with sequential (or DSG/ZF). If all your power is up at the top, and the other car has power from 3k all the way up - albeit less peak power - you’re getting smoked. Keep ‘em coming, Jamie 😏

the golf didnt have 1080hp in this races. i have a big turbo s3 8l 1.8t dsg converted. on a 680hp setup with g30-900 turbo it ran 10.12 sec and 100-200 in 5.3 sec and 0-100kmh 2.7 sec with r888r. now it has ~750hp and ran 4.9 100-200 and 10.0 on quarter mile on a very hot day (40+ degrees) with high IATs. should run 9 high easily. so that's why i think this golf had some problems... a friend of mine got a a3 8l 2.8 vrt dsg swapped with gtx35rs and 950hp. with manual gearbox (mq500) it ran 10.0 all day long and when he swapped to dsg it ran 9.5 sec and 100-200 in 3.8 sec

Ah shame. I was expecting more from the Golf. Needs a launch setup badly. With a bit of practice and fettling it should cane the Audi. It’s also a shame that tech has made cars so damn easy to drive and the efficiency is incredible. Very hard to beat with a more analogue car. I’d still have the Golf given the choice.

Audis are insane. My Quattro S3 (proper S3 with actual awd 7 speed stronic and 310 BHP stock) does 0-60 in 4.4 with a BHP to weight figure of just around 200 HP so you can do a lot with decent technology now.

The Boba golf 2.0 16v 1180 kg with 1233 hp went 0 to 100 in 1.7 sec and 0 to 200 in 4.4. This 1080 hp golf is 1600 kg and use 1/5th of the time shifting gears. 5500 to 7500 is a little narrow.

Driver + technology + engine volume = RS6 victory. The Golf would always suffer from a standing start because that big turbo just won't match a bigger engine. As Anton said, it's not a drag-race car. Between the two, I'd have the RS6 because it's got everything - you could live with it when not going hell for leather. The Golf is an enthusiast's dream - a weekend wonder - and who would say no to all that power from time to time, but it's built for raw experience. As others have commented, a DSG might help the Golf. Maybe some kind of anti-lag as well, or does it already have that? Good luck to Anton anyway.

The Golf is clearly down on displacement and up on turbo lag, and of course the gearbox makes an important difference as well. For the drag race, I don’t think 245mm tyres are enough to handle 1000HP even with AWD. The car with the better tires and gearbox won.
