Another layer to this episode. People ask why Silco didn't just kill Vander? Why lure the kids as well? Silco couldn't make Vander a martyr and the whole of the underground knew Vander would NEVER leave the kids behind. Hence "have you heard the rumour? Vander the coward and his children fled and were never seen again" line from Silco. He had to get Vander AND the kids out of the picture and that's why he set a trap for them. It's a point that's so easy to miss. Just goes to show how deeply this show is thought out. There are many other examples like this going forward. The more you analyse Arcane the more you uncover. It's not called a masterpiece for no reason.

I rather thought Silco wanted to lure out whoever was still trying to come for Vander, but turns out Vander isn´t the leader who everyone follows anymore so the only ones showing up were the kids. I guess he would have spared the kids if they hadn´t shown up, but as they got in his way without backing down he decided to treat them like Vander´s allies that needed to be wiped out. ^^

The moment Arcane took everyone by surprise and showed in which direction it will go. Love it, and it makes me cry everytime.... With Silco and Powder it is not so easy I think, it is implied when Silco looked at Vander, that he sympathises with Powder and this is probably a good reason why he took her in. It's always astonishing how great Mia Jenness' voice acting was. According to the crew, they were stunned with her work at the last scene in this episode. It was the first take and she nailed it so hard, that everyone was in shock and tears, so they took that first take of it and didn't do any other takes. In "Bridging the rift" which you should definitely check out after you've finished Arcane, she told what was going through her mind when she recorded that scene between Powder and Vi.

This moment was so heartbreaking, holy cow! I (Denise) kept expecting some kind of salvaging moment where Mylo and Clagger were going to somehow be fine, maybe through the blue crystals that Powder had used (unrealistic, I know, haha)... but no. They died. And Vander sacrificed himself, and both of those poor girls that had already gone through hell, are now faced with the irreperable damages of an honest mistake... Perhaps it's not that simple between Silco and Powder - Ari and I have our separate theories which we'll explore a little closer towards the end when we have more context into Silco's intentions. Mia Jenness - damn!! What a moment. Hearing her heartbroken and desperate wails destroyed us and I will never forget the sound and look of that little girl pleading... it was terrible 😭

@@OfficialMediaKnights Yes I know, Arcane broke with the usual thing of the "clumsy" one being the hero in the end for their freinds and helping them out of their misery, but the writers said...NOPE! We go full dark here and make her destroying her family. For me Arcane is the embodiement of the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" I remember cheering her up when she went down to help them and was like "hell yeah blow them up!" I felt like I wasn't clear enough in my wishes because...yeah she blew em up, but sadly everyone involved.... Yeah, as you noticed, you always get to see both sides, this show is heavily focused on duality and every character is grey af :D It was just plain heartbreaking how she just sat there crying out for her sister. This moment is still argued about a lot on who was right or wrong and who is to blame, but imho...nobody is really to blame here and everyone involved did the right and wrong things alltogether. This is what I love about Arcane, you can't really take a side and say "yes these are the good ones!" Nobody is good or evil here.

Yes!! Absolutely agree with you on that one. Later on in a different episode I think I comment on that. On the fact that Silco is really just fighting for the Undercity and to stop the oppression. It’s his methods that are radical. Man that last scene broke our hearts. You can tell how much Powder loves her sister and how much she looks up to her. Truly heartbreaking. It’s so funny that you thought about that saying “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” because it’s the first thing that came to mind for us after watching. I can’t tell you how much I’m loving this show and we’re ready for a rewatch to catch some more details!

Silco did not take Powder to use her. There is no use in taking in a crying 10-yaar old frightened child. Silco was ready to kill her. But then she attacked him with a hug, both literally and figuratively disarming him. There was this child, feeling totally betrayed by her sister. And they show Silco look over at the body of his 'brother', that betrayed him. His expression entirely changed. He knew the dark place Powder was in, he'd been there. And so he embraced her, vowing to make the betrayers pay. Also Vander is this huge brute of a man, who'd attacked and nearly killed Silco in the past. And this episode lays out that it occurred long before Vander gave up the violent ways of his past, and also before Silco learned the extremes necessary to defeat a superior foe (the betrayal taught him that). This episode intends to show that Vander was the aggressor in the betrayal, and that Vander created Silco. Silco is a thin man that cannot defend himself with physical strength against someone like Vander. Vander vs. Silco is not a fair brawling match. So having a knife is not being a coward in that match-up, it's leveling the playing field, it's the extremes necessary to defeat a superior foe (Vander... and by extension the oppression of topside). That's what Vander taught Silco. This episode flips the script, showing the viewer that Silco is not a mustache twirling, black hat wearing, card carrying "villlain". He's a ruthless extremist, but he's still fighting for the benefit of freeing the Undercity from harsh oppression. "You'd die for the cause, but you won't fight for one!" - this is Silco's perspective. And that Vander, in the seemingly benevolent choice for peace, had became a collaborator with the oppressors to keep an intolerable status quo. In a prior episode, when Ekko told Vi that Vander had a deal with the Enforcers, and you reacted "why are they saying it like it's a bad thing?"... It's because the enforcers are the long arm of the oppressors, and having a deal with them was a bad thing, so Vander kept that secret. People tend to side with Vander, because the Vander/Vi/Powder family are the 'point-of-view' characters. But nothing is black and white in this show.

💯👌Great analysis (eps1-3) Plus, in the final scene of Episode 1, Silco mentions Benzo as Vander's accomplice. I think at one point he may have told Vander Benzo about Silco as weak and cowardly. Benzo died because Vander may have slandered Benzo about Silco. Look at Vander's face and reaction as he is about to attack Benzo Silco. As you said, no one is truly good or bad, they are all complex people with their own problems.

Silco doesn't have access to the complete information and images that you as the viewer have. No character can do that. This is something that should not be forgotten while watching the series. Silco knows nothing about Powder at that point, Powder also knows nothing about Silco. The issue of perspective is a detail that audiences constantly forget.
@OfficialMediaKnights Жыл бұрын
The issue of perspective is not lost on us, especially as we both have a background in screenwriting/filmmaking - and even just as avid audiences of multiple different kinds of storytelling mediums. Hiding that a certain character has knowledge about other things that they are not meant to, is one of the strongest tools a writer can use to up the stakes and set up a major plot twist in a story, and is one that we have seen utilized time and time again. Whenever we watch something, we assume that there is more to what we are only shown. Having said that, Silco is smart enough to at least have an idea in regards to Powder's connection to Vander, especially when she uses her little Flame Chomper to save the rest of her group. And Powder only knows that Silco is a threat - what makes it more powerful in the end is that these two lost souls find each other in the midst of chaos, both carrying such a strong sense of abandonment and betrayal, that they (emotionally/instinctually) recognize their commonalities.
@xsptosed0776 Жыл бұрын
@@OfficialMediaKnights They use this method in every episode of the series. There are many scenes we see through Powder's eyes. 👉👉All of what I said includes only the first three episodes as far as I remember. It's not a SPOILER.👈👈 -Episode 1 opening scene (Powder watches the horrors of the Enforcers through her fingers) -Episode 3 The scene where Powder has just climbed onto the balcony: Powder watches Violet fight Silco's henchmen, then with the Monster Deckard. (In the scene we Viewers see through Powder's eyes: Powder doesn't see Silco or his henchmen. She only sees the people Violet is fighting.) -Episode 3 final scene, when Marcus saves Violet's life and near the end of the episode, we see Violet drifting out of sight. (The scene in red we see on screen (Powder and Silco scene) is getting smaller and smaller = Marcus continues to drag Violet out of the scene.) Therefore, the characters do not know everything. (for now) Silco doesn't know it was Powder that caused the explosion. (A valid validation for Chapter 3.) This is all Arcane's way of using perspective in both characters and scenes. Edit:An example of their use of perspective in scenes: 👇👇 Powder's monkey bomb only went off once. They showed how the explosion affected other scenes. (Powder, the doctor who invented Shimmer, Mylo and Claggor, Silco and his henchmen, the monster Deckard.)

I see your point. We haven't finished the show just yet, so (on our end) we will see how far each character's knowledge reaches. Based on a character and how their qualities are portrayed, we make inferences. E.g. Vi is an incredibly capable character with immense leadership qualities haunted with survivor's trauma and guilt. Silco is the wronged intellectual 'right-hand man'-like character who uses his skills of manipulation and observations to attain his goals with a traumatic past, having experienced an, arguably, perceived betrayal - again this depends on context and biases in regards to morals and ethics (and also how much we know based on how far we've gotten). Vander is the retired and reluctant 'hero' who wishes to avoid more bloodshed. You can see how Powder/Jinx and Vi are set to follow the paths of their respective father figures - Vi turning more and more into Vander, Powder/Jinx following Silco's path. This leads me to the conclusion that this will all coalesce eventually, and again, considering Silco's precision in intellect, I find it highly unlikely that he knew absolutely nothing about Vander and his connection to Vi and Powder. Even if he didn't know, we've been shown on multiple occasions that Silco has incredible powers of keen deduction, so it's highly unlikely that he's completely ignorant on Powder/Vander. Also considering that some who were in the Undercity that wanted to go against the Enforcers and against Vander's wishes, ended up joining Silco, it's only logical to assume that he knows far more than we are shown. It'd make sense for them to fill him in on Vander and his 'weak point', which is the children he's fought tooth and nail to protect. Regardless, the use of switches in perspective, and the way the dialogue is crafted is truly masterful, and an excellent example in storytelling.

How does anyone watch Silcos face when Powder says her sister left her and NOT get empathy from it? He CLEARLY sees himself in her and relates as his brother betrayed and abandoned him. The way his eyes darts around, the confusion of thousands of thoughts and emotions rushing through his mind in a split second and then his gaze landing in Vanders dead body, they couldnt make it more obvious. Saying that he "cares for her" is a bridge to far as he doesnt even know her yet... But he was about to kill her and didnt, not to use her but because he empathized with her. What possible use could he have for a screw-up 9 year old, crying in an alley anyway?

I think the Silco taking Powder in thing has two perspectives and it is done on purpose. On one half we know Silco is manipulative and not a good guy, what a way to continue to get back at Vander by raising and corrupting his adopted daughter. But on the flip side, Silco was betrayed by his own brother, of course he would take in Powder. After all, from Powder and Silco's perspective, Violet really did leave her sister that night. Silco feels kinship with her because of this.

Silco does care about Powder, he was all set to kill a ten year old child, but that hug literally disarmed him - found a kindred spirit, I guess. Doesn’t mean he knows what he’s doing, or is in any way qualified to raise a child, but at least he does care. Also, a lot of people hate on Vi for hitting her sister, but have a look at what she’s been through. Just in eight hours or so, she’s made a commitment to give herself up to authorities, saying goodbye to her family; watched two people torn apart by a raging shimmer hulk; seen her adopted dad dragged off; had to mount a rescue with CHILDREN to break him out; faced off with a dozen thugs who are out to actually kill her, and prevailed; been blown up, trapped under a steel door; seen her brothers die violently in front of her; watched her dad die violently while rescuing her. And after all that, she finds out that her little sister, the one she told to stay out of things, is directly responsible for half the shit that happened. She’s emotionally and physically exhausted, in pain, shock and grief. So she lashed out in one single moment of weakness - and I’m pretty sure the guilt she’s feeling from that one moment might go on to define her life. Seriously, I think Gandhi would kick a puppy after all that.

Thanks so much for such a thoughtful comment! Truly appreciate your insight into Silco, and honestly, I sorta stand there as well, where yes, he may have softened and shown mercy/found a kindred spirit in Powder but it was also a calculated decision. Those are not mutually exclusive. When it comes to Vi, oh my gosh, she is in an impossible situation. Imagine the hurt, the devastation and, even if it wasn't Powder's intention, she did inadvertently cause that... Probably sticking to that now but when league ever starts other genres of games I'll give them a look over. Imagine Overwatch with League characters. Already want to throw money at it.

I don't think Silco was a "fucking coward". Wander backstabbed him in the past, now Silco (literally) backstabbed him back. I don't subscribe to the principle of an eye for an eye, but I would never call what he did "cowardly". "Just" or "vengeful", maybe, not "cowardly".
@OfficialMediaKnights Жыл бұрын
The coward comment was more in regards to the fact that he refuses to get his own hands dirty. (E.g. he does not take the Shimmer himself, he uses another vulnerable person to attain his goal). He's a man of conviction, and the way he controls those around him is akin to conducting an orchestra - that does not take away from the fact that he has different strengths, or that he has a geniusness to him. I also don't think that the words cowardly and venegeful are necessarily mutually exclusive - one can be both. But I definitely see your point - and I do not blame him for holding a grudge against Vander's betrayal. This show does an excellent job at showing all perspectives to a story!
@astrorockwitch Жыл бұрын
Well Silco literally backstabbed him in that scene, so it's a "cowardly" action in that situation bc Vander was fighting that monster and he just stabb him from the back 🙄
@Rainoth_Rai Жыл бұрын
@@astrorockwitch A scrawny man bringing a knife against a muscle mountain is not cowardly. It's smart. It's levelling the playing field. Do you look at Silco and see him cower in fear? A cowardly action is cowardly because one uses unfair means in a fair situation to get the upper edge.
@astrorockwitch Жыл бұрын
@@Rainoth_Rai He stabbed him from the back in that bridge scene, what are you talking about? And they weren't even fighting, Vander was fighting Silco's men when Silco came from the back and stabbed him lol that's cowardly!!
@Rainoth_Rai Жыл бұрын
@@astrorockwitch That's the scene I'm talking about too! I don't know what you saw but they WERE fighting. Like Media Knights wrote, Silco was doing it through his subordinates. As I mentioned before, it cannot be cowardly, only vengeful and depending on how you look at it "just" would apply too. Silco said it himself in episode 2. The only way to beat a superior enemy is to stop at nothing, to become what they fear. A cowardly person would be unable to act due to excessive fear to the situation happening. If in your perspective that was a "wrong" action, you could say it was "scummy". All I'm saying is that you cannot call his action cowardly. You know what you can call cowardly, though? When Silco started retreating, after seeing Vander on Shimmer.

Silco not a coward and he better in this show.
@OfficialMediaKnights Жыл бұрын
Just to clarify - when I say coward, let me explain - Silco manipulates those around him to do his bidding so he can get what he wants, without getting his own hands dirty. He refused to take the Shimmer, because he wants to be there to reap the rewards when his plan succeeds. He lets others do the tough jobs - that in itself is cowardly and selfish. That being said he's also an incredibly well-written character and a wonderfully complex 'villain'. One can be that and a coward at the same time, they're not mutually exclusive.
When Swain meets Jinx in the game he says "Faces, fading in the flames. It was all her fault." He talks about this.

Huh, you called it Hextech before he named it in the show. I assume you've at least seen it before? I don't think playing League a bit (maybe if you played it a lot and were into lore) qualifies you to know that before it's been said in the show. My guess is that you have seen it but she hasn't. If that's the case I just think it's better to say at the start of the show. Must be hard enjoying a show pretending you haven't seen it already. If you haven't and legit just knew that out of nowhere I take all of this back. But even as someone who has played league a bit knowing that seems out of the ordinary. Like I said, if you played it a lot and was into the lore of the actual game I'd get it, but.. yeah.
@OfficialMediaKnights Жыл бұрын
The word Hextech is said by Viktor while reading Jayce’s notes in episode 2 minute mark 32:26 and then during episode 3 minute mark 8:24 After that it wasn’t that hard to deduce they were referring to the crystals (since that is the context of the scene and all that) Hextech is all around the game and mentioned several times. Caitlyn has a hextech rifle, Jayce has his hextech hammer etc Been playing league for a few months now but I didn’t watch the show up until this point. We don’t really pretend to have watched something in this channel 😝

I was afraid you would blame Powder because you were a bit harsh on her in episode 1: "Run! Do something! Powder is a little B[_]" I'm glad you didn't. She needs validation so much that she didn't think at all before acting. Blow it all up, okay, but... She's such an insecure kid and insecurity make people sutpid. Also, maybe, by seeing Vi defeated by the monster she thought she had nothing to lose. Random thing: Ari largely beats Denise, with 28 "Oh no"/"Oh (my F[_]) God/"Oh S[_]"/"Oh Man", and only 12 for Denise (the little "no, no, no, no, no, no" don't count).

After Ep 1 it was clear Powder had her own internal turmoil. Throughout the first few episodes we see as she freezes when there is confrontation and all she really wants is to be accepted. This episode was heart breaking because of how hard she tried to be helpful to the team. And how much this backfired on her. Amazing written but such a tragic story. Also the last part of your comment had us rolling ❤️😂

Yeah my second favorite episode of this show 9 episode is on first. ;) Ehm Ps guys. Hello to everyone who is interested in the League of Legends story. So you have two options, firstly, watch channels and their videos such as: Necrit, T B Skyen, TENEBRIX, NickyBoi, and we have from our KZbinrs like Necrit and Hráčská Divize, Příběhy Runeterry, Baron Rico. Or read a story with comics in one place, plus there are three books for that. Garen: First Shield, League of Legends: Realms of Runeterra (Official Companion), Ruination: A League of Legends Novel. Well, both are best. I myself began to love the story of league of legends for these reasons. Erm. Yes, league of legends is about gameplay and a poisonous community, but that's because they really don't know how to play a dump game. And Lore in League of Legends is way better than Warcraft. You can also write it as Cinematic. League of Legends has 12 comics and three books. universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/ And they have been working on their series for 7 years,... = Arcane. From 2014 to the actual date. Warcraft movie pure real garbage. Arcane Season 1, next one coming soon. And also League of legends Skin lines are alternate and parallel uvinverse. With stories this good, sometimes it's a much better champion story than in LOL. ;) May the force be with you. And may you lead the force. 🖐️
