The Green Mile movie reaction part 2 is here! And I honestly don't know why we waited so long to watch this film. This incredible movie staring Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks is such a heartfelt story. Directed by the incredibly talented Frank Darabont the shift in tones in this film are done so seamlessly it's truly difficult not to put this film into one of our favorites. This film is also based on a Stephen King novel under the same title. We absolutely love Stephen King and after our Shawshank Redemption reaction it was only right to move on to the next beloved movie adaptation. The ending of this film wrecked us! We weren't prepared for this.

"People who are in positions of control, do it because they want the control" The lady gets it. And this is why we live in a criminal world with a bunch of sociopaths and psychopaths ruling over us whether they pretend to be right wing or left wing. After all who else would seek power but someone who desires power over others? That was a wonderful empathetic reaction, I hope you both have wonderful lives.

A lot of people have guessed, and correctly as later Stephen King himself said, that the initials of John Coffey stand for Jesus Christ. Jesus was also crucified beside two criminals, one found Redemption the other didnt. The underlying symbolism is missed by many of the audience and even as a non believer, i find it extremely powerful.

Yeah! Definitely strong parallels. The symbolism, the writing, the score and the acting. This film is superb in so many aspects. But man, definitely one of those speechless by the end kind of film for us.

The St Christopher medal that Melinda gave to John is symbolic. St Christopher, whose original name is Reprobus, was a man of great size and strength who devoted himself to serve the strongest king in the Land. One way he helped was by helping travelers cross a dangerous river. One day a child asked to ride on Christopher's shoulders across the river, but the infant seemed to grow heavier and heavier with every step. When they arrived on the opposite shore, the child identified himself as Christ, telling Reprobus (St Christopher) that he had just carried the weight of the world. Saint Christopher became one of the most popular patron saints for travelers

@@OfficialMediaKnights I feel the SAME way that BEVERLY KITCHEN said to you above. I LOVED your reaction and that you weren't ashamed to show your emotions. I have seen it many times as well and I STILL cry EVERY TIME! Sometimes I think I must be sort of an empath....because I cry a lot and since I was a child, I was always able to "put myself in someone else's shoes" and know what they are feeling, Not to the extent that John Coffey could, like feeling Del's pain when he was being executed, but with tragedies which happen to other people, even people I don't know, that I see on the news, or read about, especially now. There are SO many awful things going on in our world today....the destruction in Ukraine and the suffering their people are going through, horrible weather and earthquakes destroying peoples homes and lives. ALL the mass shootings (and yet ANOTHER one just yesterday at a school killing 3 nine year olds, 2 teachers and a custodian), etc. I cry at all these things that I see happening, not to just people, but even to animals, so it is really hard on me sometimes. First time I saw the "GREEN MILE" and when John Coffey says before his execution how he is tired, and tired of all the ugliness people have to each other, STRUCK me and I could RELATE to how he felt, because it is how I FEEL much of the time, these days ( I just turned 76, so I have a lot of years to compare with. You were so right when you said Michael Clarke Duncan did such a fantastic job with his character. I can't imagine ANY OTHER ACTOR but him playing John Coffey. It was such a SHAME that he DID NOT get the OSCAR for his role that year at the ACADEMY AWARDS. Just so you know Michael Clark Duncan in reality is only one inch taller than "Brutal" (David Morse) who is 6' 4" tall, Mr. Duncan was 6'5" tall. They built a raised platform for him to walk on, so that he appeared so much taller than the other characters when near him. They also put a shorter bed in Coffey's cell to make Mr. Duncan look even larger than he was. I was devastated when he passed away in real life. He was an incredible actor, especially in this role. I also heard that in real life he was a very nice and sweet man. Such a shame RIP MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN.

@@OfficialMediaKnights no he wasn't. I hate when people saying this. Back then Oscar was really challenging, nothing compared to nowadays when we have 1 maybe 2 really good films per year. It was competition between him, Michael Caine (The Cinder House Rules), Tom Cruise (Magnolia), Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense). All those actors are incredibly talented and films are remarkable. I know everyone have preferences and personally i would gave Oscar to Haley Osment. But saying Michael Duncan was robbed, it's like saying that Michael Caine don't deserve it and that is very disrespectful.

The average life expectancy of a mouse is 2 years. Though there are cases known of mice that have gotten 4 years old. I f we take the middle ground (= 3) and divide the 64 years since J.C.'s execution with these 3 years, we get at least 21.3 times the life expectancy of a normal mouse for Mr Jingles. If we now take the average life expectancy of a human man (~75 years) and time that with 21.3...we get 1600 years. I think Paul will have to walk his personal Green Mile for quite some time, until he reaches its end.

I could discuss the themes and parallels in this movie for hours. We could discuss how the nursing home is parallel to the prison. Or how Mr Jingles was possibly an angel sent to comfort a criminal who was truly repentant. We could discuss how Del's death, as horrifying as it was, was justice in response to his crime, which was setting a fire that caused 6 innocent people to be burned to death. See, I'm just getting started. 😁

Michael Clark Duncan (arguably one of my all time favorite actors, R.I.P.) had to stand on boxes and crates to give the feeling of Massive that he portrays in the movie. They did a LOT to shrink down the actual scale of the cell so when you see just him it's the smaller scale cell. When other actors are there he's on a higher level to portray the Massive size of John Coffy. When Percy was walking him in he was walking on a raised path so it looks like he's HUGE. Michael Clark Duncan was shorter than most of the actors. They call it Forced Perspective in case you hadn't heard of it. Nowadays they use bad CGI to make people look bigger. (She-Hulk, we are looking at you.) This was before the advent of CGI. You want someone to look HUGE compared to the other characters, you do the most with what you got. Absolutely wonderful movie. I cried with you two. Not ashamed to admit it. This movie and Shawshank Redemption are two of my favorite Non-Sci-Fi movies.

Thank you, guys. What a nice reaction. I've probably watched over 100 and people chop it down to 20 - 30 minutes losing the most important parts. I bought the book and can't get myself to read it! But I think John was an angel (the light) and Percy was evil (the dark) which was why John was afraid of it.

Hey! Thank you so much for watching with us! This reaction edit was one that we gave a lot of thought to. We needed to cut it shorter but didn't want to loose any of the important beats. We're glad to hear a lot of you who've loved this film for years are happy with the segments we included. Truly means the world. This film touched both our hearts forever. Truly an amazing film with amazing performances. John was definitely some sort of Divine presence!

I am amazed how books, music, or movies can elicit understanding or emotions decades or centuries after its original release. TGM is a special movie which had fantastic acting from EVERY character. Also, TGM taught me to see the positively in others before assuming an agenda. TMK, thanks for the awesome analyses.

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment. You are so right - that is the beauty of art, the way it shows you the best in mankind. Like Brutal told Coffey, instead of focusing on those that hated him, to focus on the guards who loved him. Such valuable lessons to be learned.

I was about 12 years old when I saw that movie in theater with my mother, and almost shout, and definitely dropped my fist on the seat's armrest when Percy killed the mouse. I've always been a very "good" and impressionable spectator. 😆😆😆😆 RIP, mother, for bringing me to a screening of "La vita è bella" at the age of 10. Fantastic reaction guys, and also very well cut! Idk if you do your own editing or not but its well done, you show enough of scenes, you comment but dont talk too much over dialogue... youre def one of my new reactor faves :) Two suggestions: for a series, pls do Sopranos-i promise you will get sucked into their world within a few eps, and itll also grown your channels bc we Sopranos fanatics always want to watch reactions to it-i think im watching 3 separate ones right now. For a movie-The Black Stallion. Its not really a kids movie even though kids can watch it-its really different & engrossing & beautiful & exciting & i think you'd like it! Plus no one else has reacted to it yet. Anyway youre doing a great job, keep it up!

great reaction is always guys. Yes the tumor was a tumor, not an evil entity, it just happened to seat in the part of the brain that caused Melinda and Percy to be aggressive and violent. One thing I always wondered was that John healed Melinda in pretty much the same way he healed the mouse, and Mister Jingles live so long, I wonder if Melinda also lived so long as the mouse is living? I swear when they pulled back from John and Melinda you could see she looked at least 15 maybe even twenty years younger.
@charlesedward5047
@charlesedward5047 Жыл бұрын
Excellent question. I didn't really think about Melinda also living for a long time. But, did Mr. Jingles live so long because he was healed, or when John transferred power to the mouse during Del's execution? If it's the latter, then maybe Melinda lived a normal number of years. Think about Paul: he was healed by John, but when he took John's hand it was when the "power" to live a long time was given.

The acting in this movie is truly phenomenal, as is the cinematography and storytelling. The first time i watched this movie, it was in my late teens. I empathized so much with John and the good guards that I felt stuck between pain and hollow for about a week. I'm not exagerating. I avoided watching this movie for YEARS, even while thinking it one of the best movies ever made under all aspects and kept recommending it to people. I never regretted watching it, but I was just so afraid of feeling that pain again. I'm glad I'm able to rewatch it now, many years later, through reactions. I cry every time, but I'm able to take the pain better because I'm able to fully understand the true nuances in Johns's point of view, about the suffering he must've felt while alive. Him dying was more of a gift, in a way, although it always hurts to see such a good person go.

Another great video. The Green Mile is an amazing movie, definitely in my top five of all time. Minor detail as I watched your videos, not for you guys, but just about the movie. Incidentally, I was amazed. You guys actually cried more than I did, and I always cry watching this. I truly love that you guys are almost half my age and that you absolute get the truly important things in our world. You are two wonderful people, and I know you are not alone. I have a lot of hope for the future, because of people just like you. Anyway my criticism comes from the very end of the movie----If God could get a mouse to live this long, how long am I going to live? I am a math, science, and history guy; so naturally I did the math. Average lifespan of a field mouse---1 year. Average lifespan of a male human-----74 years. A field mouse that lives for 64 years, that gives the medical subjects a life multiplier of x64. Paul will live for a total of 4736 years. Now for my criticism, almost entirely imaginary. A guy that is going to live another 4600 years will not age 40 years in a 64 year time frame. At best he will probably age one year, more likely six months. I know it is necessary for the premise of the movie, keeping us in the dark and full of surprise and wonderment, and it was still awesome. But maybe the movie could have gone like this----We see Tom Hanks as he appears in the prison job, but it is present day. Hanks has a different job, a different wife, and lets add a really nice young daughter. We could have him on a day off watching the Fred Astaire movie and start tearing up. Daughter asks what's wrong. Hanks says the movie reminds him of some old FAMILY history, not personal history. He can present the story as that of his father. He can still have the mouse living off property as a little secret, and maybe at the end of the movie he actually reveals that it was his history, not his father's. Quite a quandary. Can you imagine being someone that lives 4700 years. If there was someone on our planet on his last days that lived that long would have been born in 2700 BC. Back then farming had still been a thing for about 5000 years, horses were in constant usage since 4000 BC, and writing was in its infancy. If he was born in a major civilization it would have to be China, Troy, Egypt, or Sumeria. The Akkadians would not be around for another 100 years, Babylon in 800, Greece in 1100, Phoenicia in 1150, the beginning of Rome in about 1850 years, and Persia in 2150 years. Better yet, somebody that lives until 6600 AD. Great potential for a new movie idea there. No changes to Green Mile needed. The world has been on rapid change for the last 200 years, probably more. Scary to think of the changes that will occur in 4600 years. Hope most of them for the better. Definitely opens the door for another kind of Time Machine movie, hope if anybody does this, the product would not be nearly as dystopian. Cheers.

This is a tough movie to watch. Stephen King made the characters so likeable and never tells you what they did, except for wild bill, that you feel sad when they're executed. But they are on death row, so they didn't steal a car or write a bad check. They're in there for rape and/or murder. You guys did a great job of acknowledging that. Not everyone does. Great reaction. For a little bit of backstory, in the novel, the crimes of the death row inmates were described: Arlen Bitterbuck killed a man in a fight, and a fifth prisoner not adapted into the film killed his father for his money, but because he was a wealthy white man he went free and avoided a punishment he deserved more than Arlen. Edward Delacroix raped a woman and accidentally killed her, and when he panicked and tried to burn the body, the flames reached a building. But if someone had been looking out for Del, he probably would've never gone down that path in the first place. He seemed to be mentally slow, which is already difficult for a person nowadays, let alone back in that era, but instead he was cast aside. This is what makes the elderly Paul's career change to a boys' correctional home even more impactful: to help kids who might otherwise go down a dark path.
