This is probably the second greatest scene in the movie next to: "I never saved anything for the swim back."

I wish Jerome would show the same love to himself as he does for Vincent

He could not let go of his shame, or the hate he used to control it. He could not grieve the past, and be water. He was fire, and his ego choose to die in fire, rather than cry and die in shame. The tragedy is he doesn't know it.

The power of this scene is incredible. There is a reason why the staircare is shaped like the double helix of the DNA. The metaphor of Jerome climbing the stairs is to symbolize that now, finally, he lives up to his genetic potential. But he does it not for himself, but to help a genetically "inferior" man to realize his dreams. I actually teared up during this scene. Finally, all those millions of Dollars that Jerome's parents spent to give him the "heart of an ox" and muscles of stell finally paid of. The symbolism of this scene is that of genes bending before Human willpower, and serving the purpose of Human fullfillment. This is one of the most powerful scenes in movie history, but most people missed the symbolism.

Wonderful analysis, my friend! Although the symbology of everything else that you mentioned has always been equally as important to me as it clearly is to you, I'd not previously noticed that the staircase is shaped like a double helix, further representing deoxyribonucleic acid - nice one! Cheers & best wishes from sunny 'Down Under', mate...Matt.

As I considered the news from my cancer guru that the next stage after the cancer explodes my spine will be paralysis I realized that I needed to start planning on a lot more upper body strength like in this scene. I'm already planning out how can I keep doing what I need to do to build solar synthetic fuel power plants even if my legs won't cooperate anymore.

Very good film lifted tremendously by Jude Law’s outstanding performance. He should’ve at least gotten an Oscar nod; a real breakout, riveting acting turn.
