So close to landing and being home with family and friends. And they were probably at the airport to take the passenger home. Devastating.

If someone is in a car accident and doctors at the hospital do everything they can to save their life, but they die anyways, I can still appreciate all the hard work the doctors put into trying. I don't mean this as a criticism and I am 100% in agreement that all the responders are incredible people who deserve thanks, especially in dire situations such as this one. It just strikes me as a little odd to wait until you've given all the thanks and told the mayor how wonderful she is and listed every single fire department and police department that aided in the rescue, to mention the fact that the operation has moved from rescue to recovery. I would have thought it would be extremely difficult for anyone who might have been watching this and was desperately waiting for news to have to sit through 10 minutes of that first. Like I said, everybody who helped in any way at all deserves recognition and thanks, I know I could never do that type of work, especially in those type of frigid temperatures and water. It just seems like that could wait until a little bit later in the press conference, out of respect for people who are desperately waiting for the latest news. I don't know, that's just my thought. It just seems like so many awful things are happening these days 😞 My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy.

I was feeling the same way! NOT the time for backslapping and recognition!! This is crazy. It wasn't until well into it that the one with the purple tie, I believe a Senator, actually seemed to sincerely acknowledged the tragic loss of life and terrible loss of this event. But even then... Lets get a clue here folks! Not the time for any congratulations and speak of heroes. These guys need to just get into the details, get information and analyze their own efforts in getting to the scene quickly enough. NTSB better get this figured out. We must have answers. I definitely do not want to hear that no one can find any black boxes in waist deep water. We deserve answers not gaslighting.

If you look at this calmly, its not that insane. The helicopter pilots had been ordered. The passenger plane was landing, low altitude, cannot do anything. Why did the helicopter pilots flying around the landing track? They had been ordered. Once the pilots got the order, there would be no question. They knew what would happen. All of the big bosses here just brushed everything off. But its government related stuff anyway, no one have the power to get the truth out of them.

I understand ATC told the Army training helicopter to see and avoid the airline. The helicopter pilot answered they had. One question is if the helicopter personnel were looking at the wrong airline since multiples were coming in to land. Listening to ATC is very instructive. I understand the airline was where it was supposed to be. Army helicopter was on a training flight. Did they look down; were they confronted with their blind spot. I’m sure we’ll hear more. So very sad.

Can your brother change his arrival airport to another nearby if you and your family are uncomfortable? 1/13/1982 there was a passenger aircraft with I think 70 or 78 onboard, that had a crash into a nearby part of the river, also colliding with a bridge. The water was icy, so anyone that survived the impact would have passed within minutes from extreme hypothermia. I don't know the cause of that incident, but it's unsettling that there's been two incidents with significant loss of life in the same area. I've always had an uneasy feeling when flying into or out of Reagan but never knew why. Granted aircraft accidents are so incredibly rare and I'm literally waiting to board a flight at O'Hare before a long haul from LAX to Australia (MEL) and not feeling any unease... But if your brother can change to a different arrival airport to make your family feel less anxious, it's worth looking into. 😢 🤍

@gregorylyon1004 Do you honestly think that a specific reason behind their deaths makes their loss any easier? Do you believe that making someone "pay" for what they did lessens the agony? No, it does not. It only makes it harder to grieve because blaming someone or anyone or anything blunts the grieving process. It is only our American mindset that thinks finding the person responsible will alleviate the pain. Nothing but time will do that, and never fully. And I didn't say "just" an accident. You did. I said it was a HORRIBLE accident. Accidents happen every day and are never 100% avoidable. That's why they are called Accidents. It's tragic and heartbreaking. We only are feeling it because it's on the news and it happened here at home. Tens of thousands die every day in accidents of all kinds. We just don't know about them because they are not on the news. But they are all tragic to the people who lose someone.

Those collision avoidance systems don’t operate that low to the ground, sadly. There’s no altitude to tell one aircraft to “descend” while the other climbs. Too low. Very, very sad.

Transport secretary saying helicopter was flying in a standard flight pattern, the plane was flying in a standard flight pattern and signing off by saying we want to assure you when you fly your safe... 😳 He's not too bright. How can it be standard flying aircraft on collision courses and tell people it's safe when 67 people just died.

It doesn’t make sense on why the helicopter was in the flying pattern of the aircraft? The aircraft was in it’s normal flying pattern. Why was the helicopter in the path of the aircraft? Condolences to the families and I pray that all bodies are recovered and united back with the families. But there needs to be answers. Better answers. The ball was dropped on this one.

Why are soldiers practicing anything at a airport for the general public? You know us peasants? 😒 It's kind of weird how they have so many air bases and places for whatever practices they're practicing that we're not allowed at!? But they can use a normal airport for whatever the hell 'practicing' they're doing?! Maybe I'm wrong but it just seems avoidable...the military has well enough places to go 'play' at... Rest in peace to those in the passenger plane that's extremely sad and the only people that deserve thanks here are the first responders meaning firefighters and paramedics. The folks that do the real work.

The Blackhawk was a new trainees. Experts are saying this tragic event wouldn't have happened had Trump not fired all experienced seasoned workers from every department. Trump fired the TSA, military, government workers, etc. There were employees shortages, and new trainees were called in to do the job in certain dept across the states. This could have been avoided! Chaos, tragic events, deaths are bound to happen when you have a convicted criminal running the country. My condolences goes to all the families.

This FAA official seems to be misinformed because literally every other source is saying the Blackhawk was flying way too high and was crossing the final approach path. And it’s common sense that both the plane and helo couldn’t both be on the same “correct path” unless correct means collision course.
