Hey SMO you don't need to apologise to anyone, it's tough out there for youngsters these days (I don't mean to patronise, I'm nearly 50 so am feeling particularly old!) and you have to do what you have to do. Unfortunately you need a certain amount of money to live a nice life - by which I just mean own your own place, run a car or bike and have a holiday once in a while. Unfortunately, unless you're a Casey Neistat or similar it's very hard, close enough in fact to be impossible I reckon, to make a decent living making videos on you tube - even tougher if you're in a small niche like motorcycling. I'm very fortunate having had my working life (as a freelancer coincidentally for 25 years) and, with a bit of planning and a lot of hard graft, reached a point where I can afford to live a nice life regardless of having a job - now I can spend my time on the fun stuff, making you tube videos about motorbikes. I guess what I'm saying is, don't be down hearted, no need to give up on your dreams, perhaps just delay/defer them, there's plenty of time...opportunity is out there! All the best my friend, good luck in the new job and look forward to your next vid, whenever that may be....TMF

Didn't a wise man once say, "post when you want to, stuff a schedule, just put up good stuff" or words to that effect? Wasn't it you who said it? Seriously dude, real life happens, you have to do things for yourself and if that meant KZbin went on the back burner for a little bit over winter (as did most other motovloggers channels in the UK), so be it. Great to see you are wanting to get your teeth into it again though and awesome news regarding the new career too! :-)
@OfficialSmo6 жыл бұрын
Very true! That was before my situation changed and I needed to extract literally every little penny from everywhere possible - it backs you into a corner where you need content for the revenue. Not a great place - I stand by my previous statement!
@HippoDrones6 жыл бұрын
Going at KZbin full time in the UK is a scary thing, as a motovlogger, I don't think I'd be brave enough to do it (am also pretty mediocre so it would never be an option for my lol) :D Now the pressure is off you, you may find you enjoy doing it more? :-)

First off congrats on the job, matey! So good that you're going back into the games industry AND back at the old company! Hopefully that will pay dividends. Secondly, there is absolutely no shame in still living at home at 30. The world we live in now is a very different place to previous generations. I've still got mates at home at 38. Hell, I lived with someone else's parents for the best part of five years well into my 30's! Despite what the MSM and our leaders may tell us, we're still very much teetering on another financial clusterfuck. Stay at home as long as needs be. Get comfortable financially, then worry about the rest of your life.

I contracted for 20 years in Graphics abs Illustration and it’s tough and moved 400 miles to Bournemouth for a permi job. You can always go back to freelance later. Welcome back to the game industry! Can't beat it as steady office jobs go, so long as the company is stable. Your move makes total sense. You've already got 18k subs. At this point you're better off releasing one solid entertaining video a week than working yourself like a pack animal to piss out a steady stream of meh. Maybe do one vlog a week and one garage project a week or bimonthly? Schedule is far less important that making thumbnails and titles that pop in the subscription feed. I don't even click on most of my feed anymore because it all just looks boring. I'm also far less likely to click stuff that's over 10min because #dadlife. Most of what I watch nowadays is interesting project videos, the occasional vlog, and GMBN.

I'd say congratulations are in order! I know a few people that don't mind living from project to project and making do, but I prefer a steady pay cheque and some certainty of what is gonna happen next month.. Incidentally - as the sound-engineering/designing work has been dwindling in the advertising market, I was wondering if the sound part of games is usually made in-house with the developers or is it outsourced?
@OfficialSmo6 жыл бұрын
It depends fella - there are so many deciding factors such as whether or not a project is being developed in-house or if it's contracted by a client, and if so what their budget is. I've worked at studios both and without sound departments. It's a very specialised field though so a good sound designer is like a gold mine. Stick with it!

You really don't want to worry about it or apologise to anyone, in reality nobody gives a crap whether you post or not because everybody else is dealing with their lifes struggles too. Do what you want to do , post as often or not, it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things, you tube can be a great utility to dip into now and then but a dose of reality always bites harder. The main thing is you sorted it out in your head for yourself, the very best of luck with the new job.
