Ronson Lighter Fluid does a great job of cleaning off that rubberized coating without harming the painted lettering at all! It just takes a lot of rubbing with a very lightly soaked rag (not dripping wet) and I had to separate the electronics from the front and back sides of the case to be able to get at all nooks and crannies. Mine took about an hour to take apart, mapping screw locations on a piece of card board. Then about two hours of rubbing both sides of case using many swatches of old "white "T" shirts. And then, 1 hour to get it back together. I used this method to clean my Eton E10 and several other electronic items that had been painted with that horrible rubberized top coat. All of these items are working well and all painted lettering was left with out any harm what so ever. Good luck on this, you will end up with a beautiful radio when complete!!! Be careful rubbing the kick stand, mine ended up needing repair about a week later. Not sure if it failed coincidentally or due to the rub job!?!?!? It is fine now as I drilled a hole and pined it.

Hello I bought a Grundig G5 years ago. I miss it as it died on me. I have a Kaito KA 1103 which they say has the same guts as the G5 and the Kaito is the oldest radio I have and I still use it.

Looking forward to how YOU remove the coating. I took the coating off my G-6, easily enough, But I am an Auto Detail Technician, so I have done it on some cars, and have professional products, So I can’t wait 😊. 📻🙂

Nice old radio The only Grundig I own is the G-6 “ Buzz Aldrin “, which was really quite some radio when it came out, but not the greatest performance, but a great radio anyway. 📻🙂.
