I play this every time I miss my mom. One day, in the 80's as a teen and not long after my dad died suddenly, I blasted this in my bedroom while packing my things up (we could no longer afford to live where we were) and my pre-WWII-German-born mom started banging on my door. I turned the volume down and opened up the door, expecting her to yell at me to "keep the noise down." Instead, my mom was standing there with tears in her eyes, and she asked me to play this song again as she absolutely loved it. Tears rolling down my face while writing this, sadly my mom passed away only a few years after that. But playing this even today brings back my memory of that moment where we shared a common joy we felt when we listened to Reap the Wild Wind together.

I’ve known this beautiful melody for well over 34 years now. It’s my first time seeing this video. My grandfather served as a reconnaissance photographer for the US Army during the Second World War. My grandfather would tell me stories of this beautiful British 🇬🇧Spitfire work of art that gave Hitler his first defeat during the war and that contributed to the salvation of Europe against tyranny. My grandfather is long gone; but just recently, I heard this beautiful song at a nightclub; music was loud, smoke in the air, lights all around me; I closed my eyes and I swayed and danced to the sounds of my soul…. I felt free.

God, I haven't listened to this in DECADES (so dunno why today). I remember hearing, I think, Chris (bass) in a BBC Radio interview - back when it was 'good', not 'tripe' - saying that the band wanted the song/video to be ''about the unsung heroes'' ... . Puts a lump in my throat just thinking about it. I was a big fan of Ultravox - both John Foxx- AND Midge-era - when at the time no-one else would admit it (even though probably loads of 'em bought the records) - AND I got quite a lot of 'stick' for it, as I remember. I guess that's what happens growing up in a (very) small Northern UK town - and I guess that's the same in lots of places. Still, AWESOME stuff - thanks for posting.

This song was on one of those "Buy Vol 1, and get Vol 2 free" double albums of chart music you could get in Woolworths for £5.99 back in the early 80s. (This particular one might have been called Chart Attack or Chart Runners, or something like that.) I was a kid at the time, and I used my saved-up pocket money to buy the album. On vinyl! And I have to say Reap The Wild Wind was one of the tracks on it I could take or leave. A few months later the song featured in an episode of Bergerac (anyone remember that programme?!) and my view changed in an instant. Hearing it in that, I suddenly appreciated absolutely everything about the track. 40 years later.....I still appreciate absolutely everything about this song (and always will.)

This just might be my all time favorite Ultravox song. I love the richness of the soaring keyboard synthesizers along with the vocals. It's so beautiful. I saw Midge perform live three nights ago here in Vancouver (although strangely enough, this song wasn't included in the set). I was quite thrilled to get an opportunity to see this highly respected music icon playing in a small venue, but IMO the hired guns backing up Midge didn't do the songs justice. Seemed to me that the young keyboard player's contribution in particular was very limited... which when listening to the music of Ultravox, was very disappointing to experience. (To be fair to the keyboard player, he seemed more proficient and at ease when backing up Paul Young in the second half of the double-bill.) I'd love to see Midge performing alongside the original members of Ultravox, but unless I cross the Atlantic, that's unfortunately probably never going to happen. I am so thankful though that there's a treasure-chest of recorded material to forever enjoy.

Not sure if i said that right mein Deutsch ist wirklich schlecht.

That moment when he sings 'A stranglehold on a certain feeling' takes me right back to the feelings I had at the time, in a powerful way. It's prophetic or apt because contained within that moment he really does create a stranglehold on a feeling - my feelings that are eternal in that moment.

Living in the USSR I loved the new wave music. Quartet was my favorite Ultravox album. Now the magnificent 80-s are over, the magic new wave is over, my USSR was betrayed and broken. The music has turned into the annoying noise. The USSR is over. The good music is over too. The same story with good films and books. It seems the USSR kept the world from madness and degradation.
