I have the pro 43 .bought new more than 20 years ago .... fantastic little radio even though it's dated .

I've had my Pro-43 since 1993, repaired the keypad but still works quite well. Still works well for the Pittsburgh area, they still use the 1960's era UHF system. It is also great for airshows too.

I just want to listen to aviation traffic. I live below a glide path and close to an airport. What scanner would you recommend. I am looking at spending around $300

i own a whistler scanner and its economic price. its the ws1040 and the diamond antenna which makes it recieve pretty well . it has tons of memory . and it has presets for aircraft on it already . i pick up some air traffic near me but they havce to be flying above . if im near the airport i pick up all the tower traffic an all . plus this scanner is also trunking so it will do digital like police and so on

Sorry for my complete lack of knowledge, I’m new to this. Can the bearcat pick up a frequency that has 5 decimal places? Like 111.12345? Thanks.

Do you have any suggestions for a police scanner that won't break the bank that is easy to use. My dad is in his late 70's and needs a scanner. Thx

Dear Sir, I was hoping you could help me with a question. I live here in the West Palm Beach Florida area and I use to listen to the local Police ( West Palm Beach ) on my Smart Phone App to keep track of what is going on in m area. But as of late I'm unable to pick them up on my App or any App I download now. My question is, do I need to go buy a hand held scanner radio from Radio Shack type to pick them up now or did they go completely blind to the public? Thank for any and all help you may be able to give! Also, Thank you for all that you do and your time!
@markplott48207 жыл бұрын
Amada Hugand Kiss - App on a Smartphone is NOT selective at all, no control. Radio Shack is out of Business. but, you can pick up a Whistler Digital Scanner or Uniden. an older ANALOG scanner might be ok for AM-FM listening but NOT for the Digital Systems in use Today. Contrarry to popular belief, NOT ALL public safety / law enforcement Encripts.

How do you listen to police and BNSF stuff? Or Union Pacific for listening to train schedules
@foggysignalproductions20725 жыл бұрын
bnsf and norfolk i belive are trunked systems . norfolk you will need to know the info in order to get onto it . atleast in high traffic areas where signal is weak . i can pick up the trackside markers and mileposts as well as some dispatch talk but its hard to get . i use a whistler 1040 with a diamond antenna i work on a railroad daily and use my radio for traffic and safety in the yards and out on the line
@foggysignalproductions20725 жыл бұрын
you can also do a simple scan on the whislter and it can lock onto any signal that is transmittiing at that time like csx norfolk etc but you will get different tags along with the signal which if you can program your scanner fully with those tags and info it iwll recicve and pick up better

Im torn between the uniden BC75XLT and the baoteng UV-5R...im not sure which one to get. Can you help me? I'm going to reply the links.

Here's the Uniden www.amazon.com/Uniden-BC75XLT-Public-Scanner-Channels/dp/B00A1VSO9M/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1488084521&sr=1-1&keywords=BC75XLT

and here's the Baoteng www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Radio-Black/dp/B007H4VT7A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1488011710&sr=8-3&keywords=UV-5R
@Muilisxx7 жыл бұрын
The Baoteng is good because you have the ability of transmitting while the Uniden one you can only listen. However, the Uniden is a faster scanner and has banks and stuff. Also, with the Baoteng, I can buy a different antenna for longer range which is www.amazon.com/Genuine-Hypario-HPA-771-Updated-Antenna/dp/B00BY3XN7E/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1488085117&sr=8-7&keywords=UV-5R+ANTENNA
@Muilisxx7 жыл бұрын
However, i'm really not sure which route I want. The Uniden scans very very very fast while the Baoteng scans much slower. Im a beginner with scaners. My intentions is just to listen to random stuff. Like, I want to be able to walk through Target when IM shopping, and listen in to their employees and stuff. Or, if Im at an airport, etc etc....listening into BestBuy employees...etc etc. Can both of these do that? Which would be better? Also, do I NEED TO KNOW their frequences or can I scan, and find it? I would assume you could just scan because it's a " scanner " but I also can look some up but i want to be able to scan

This info is Seriously out of date, Today in 2018 communications are becoming digital and these Analog Scanners will become obsolete. Modern scanners like the Whistler and Uniden digital scanners offer Entry level entertainment while Digital Communications receivers like the AOR DV-10 and the ICOM R-30A offer the BEST in Digital Communications.
@neilcampbell48333 жыл бұрын
Don't bother with a scanner these days the only thing you'll get is some civilian aircraft and the odd satalite transmission. Military airband now use sat Comms there was military activity in my area recently and I picked up nothing. I stay near a busy harbor I don't get marine or coastguard as they seem to use there own frequency's these day's.

Bearcat = cheap junk radios. you are better off with a ICOM R-6 Sport or a Alinco DJ-11.
@VE2ZZI7 жыл бұрын
Uniden Bearcat are great receivers
@markplott48207 жыл бұрын
Communication Receivers like the ICOM, AOR and Alinco are superior in Many Ways. they have the most sensitive receivers and they have more Programability as well as Features NOT Found on ANY Scanner. they ONLY thing Comm Receivers don't do well is Trunking. but for Everything Else they are the very Best and Cost about the Same.
