@@morbidmanmusic Hello, certainly not a Mozart or Beethoven and I would never profess to be anything close but judging from your two comments on this video thread it seems you completely dismiss the point of my approach (which is totally fine with me), but as a courtesy to you I'm sending this link of my classic for you to listen to (hopefully with an open mind) so as to better understand where I'm coming from. In any case, thanks for watch and commenting. To me everyones opinion is valid. open.spotify.com/album/5FfCSgyeAohZAeTqAGZCeN?si=thZOOCyoRAOLpvsG8_byeQ

@@KipWingerTV this is great. And there's no point in comparing. I've noticed you were interested in Steve's approach to combining a rock band and an orchestra. Are you familiar with Van Dyke Parks's work in Silverchair's Diorama and Young Modern? Although not "composed for an orchestra + band" per se, rather than "orchestrally embellished", I believe it would inspire you. Lots of good stuff in there. Great conversation, cheers.

Before ever having known that your piece was entitled Still Small Voice your description of requisitioning the universe for your needs reminded me of the first, and likely most successful, time that I performed that same task. It was for the purpose of confirming the existence of God to a friend and atheist. The confirmation was obtained in a dream under hypnopompic paralysis and yet a still small voice urged that I understand that my request was in vain and thusly only half fulfilled but to the extent that it served as proof to the skeptic. The way you describe it as a "download that sort of hits you" is an amazing confirmation of experience. Thank you for risking ridicule to share the process of obtaining enlightenment.

Loved this, thanks for the interview. BTW, this is off topic but I met you once in the late 90s. I don't remember exactly which year, but I remember going into a book store of all places (Borders, I think) in Minnesota off the south loop just west of the Mall of America. The wife and I were walking about in the store and I hear someone singing a Winger tune while playing an acoustic guitar. I went around a few shelves and you were there playing with a group of people gathered around. That was pretty cool!

Fantastik conv. I've always enjoyed Steve's Philosophies on life, music and spirituality. Your angle on the interview is a refreshing twist on the normal convos we get. Putting the energy out and getting the energy back is a deep spiritual concept and its pretty cool to see two big musical geniuses talking about that. Great interviews. I've always been inspired by your musical journey and talent and by your peaceful thoughtful personality. Much different than the 'rocker' personae that MTV creates as an image. Very cool.

Really enjoyed the direction of your questions! Great concepts-the infinite creation of music, "seeing" the music, dreaming the tunes, putting your requests out to the universe, melody never being boring, stilling your mind in the evening to expand your universe in composing. Interesting how he originally "got" music & his description of realizing all the colors at his disposal. I just discovered an amazing poem by Robert Frost that I related it to immediately, "The Aim was Song". Beautiful, it's basically about the wind learning that it was always meant to be song. Great stuff, thank you!

Just say'n Kip. I think it was 1988 and I had to go to a new school as I was kicked out of the last for smoking believe it or not haha ( for the 3rd time lol). I new nobody man. We were in the library and this kid in my class could see I was on my own and new and tapped my shoulder and with no words proceeded to hand over his Walkman for me to have a listen. It was Winger 1 and Hungry riff started. Changed my life. From that day on I began my guitar journey. Steve was also a massive influence after but your album was the seed brother. Awesome! I didn’t know you were a composer, Kip. Or what that means to you. But if you’re writing out sheet music, that is really cool. I had a great guitar class in high school. My first year, we were asked to write an original piece. So I did, and I still have it. I was always a pretty good artist, so looking at the sheet music now, it almost looks like it was printed out using a program. I just really took my time. I will try to listen back more. It just gets harder and harder to hear the same stories from Steve over the years. And how out of touch a lot of successful people are with the real world. Or how at six years old he became aware of an ‘infinite universe!’ 🤣 Always reminds me about this really wealthy woman that I met around 30 years ago. She was so kind of spacey and out of touch. She said, “you have to make a wish before coming into my house and all of it grandeur.” 😂😢 Paul Stanley is the same way, and Gene. These guys are all becoming like old wealthy Jewish ladies!!! 🤣😝 I just can’t take it anymore, ha ha. But I’ll try to get through the interview at some point. But you are awesome, Kip. Winger was one of my favorite bands of the late 80s. Time flies!
