The York Regional Police Road Safety Bureau is committed to its ongoing efforts to combat stunt driving and street racing as part of Project ERASE and recently initiated two traffic stops that led to charges, licence suspensions and vehicles being impounded.
On Thursday, August 3, 2023, an officer observed two vehicles racing on Islington Avenue from Napa Valley Drive in the City of Vaughan. The vehicles reached speeds of over 130 kilometers per hour in a 60 kilometer per hour zone. Both vehicles were monitored until they could be stopped safely. Both drivers were charged with Speeding and Stunt Driving and had their drivers licences suspended for 30 days and their cars impounded for 14 days.
Project ERASE is an awareness and enforcement campaign operated jointly by police services across Ontario, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, with the goal of eliminating street racing, stunt driving and other high-risk driving behaviours.
Aggressive driving and street racing are dangerous, unlawful activities which put innocent people at risk of injury or death. The real finish line may be court, fines, jail, vehicle seizure, a loss of driving privileges or even worse, the hospital or the morgue.
Throughout the summer season as part of Project ERASE, the York Regional Police helicopter Air2, will continue to work with officers on the ground, watching for vehicles staging to race, vehicles travelling at excessive rates of speed and vehicles that do not meet safety standards. Street racers put themselves and unsuspecting road users at risk of death or serious injury when they choose to disobey traffic laws and drive without due care and control and with a disregard for public safety.
Call 9-1-1 if you see dangerous driving practices that could cause personal injury or loss of life. When contacting police, try to note the vehicle’s location, direction of travel, make, model, licence plate number and driver’s description.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Road Safety Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext.7703, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com

Stunt drivers pose a major risk to people. I don't give a darn if you wanna go above the speed limit, but going double or more is just stupid

Stunt driving isn't a criminal offense therefore these guys aren't criminals, but their behavior can still endanger the public and needs to be corrected before they actually hurt anyone.

Racing on a road with nobody on it in the middle of the night... I don't see much issue. If it was on a busy road in the daytime, for sure charge them with stunt driving but this is ridiculous.

2k$ minimum fine + towing + parking storage for two weeks + increased insurance for 5 years + replacement car for two weeks + victim assistance surcharge + minimum one year driver's licence suspension + uber/taxi/bus pass costs + lawyer optional...this all adds up to 4K$ or more. daddy or sugar daddy better start working over time. or sell the rocket and get a hyundai accent or similar gutless puddle jumper... or better still a bicycle.

the law should apply to everyone,if she broke the law arrest her,if she was doin speed limit he would still be alive, police permitted to get away with neglegence causing death, for coffee, cant make this stuff up,A grieving widow whose husband was run over and killed by a speeding Ontario Provincial Police officer can’t believe the force told her it won’t hold a public hearing into the case because it decided the misconduct was "not serious." Courtney D’Arthenay said she was shocked to read those words in a letter from OPP brass - a decision that narrows potential penalties for the officer involved and leaves her wondering if she will ever get answers to her many outstanding questions in the case.“My entire life is completely altered in a way I could never imagine. I can’t go back to what it was. It’s the most serious thing when you don’t have a life partner any more,” D’Arthenay said in an interview. In response to questions from CTV News Toronto, an OPP spokesperson agreed the tone of the response was "cold"Around midnight on September 29, 2020, Dorzyk, 35, was run over and killed in Midland, north of Barrie. An investigation found Const. Jaimee McBain was driving an unmarked SUV at the time, returning from getting coffee for another officer at a crime scene.the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD), did find McBain committed discreditable conduct. The vehicle’s GPS showed she was speeding between 72 km/h and 97 km/h, even though the limit at that intersection was 60 km/h.But the OPP took the complaint in another direction, After careful consideration… it is my decision the misconduct was not of a serious nature and this matter can be addressed informally without holding a hearing,” wrote Supt. Tracy Dobbin of the OPP’s Office of Professionalism,You would hope that the police would take this seriously enough to hold the officer accountable. But they’ve used the lack of seriousness, which society treats pedestrian deaths, to excuse the officer of significant wrongdoing. That’s morally reprehensible. I think normal person would hear this story and be appalled,”It also substantiated misconduct against an attending office, Sgt. Amy Thompson, who made comments blaming Dorzyk for his own death“But the choice she made, to be speeding as a professional driver, she fundamentally didn’t uphold what we count on her to do as a community. And the ramifications of her choices are irreparable, she is curruntely being payed 141,899 tax dollars and actually recieved several raises since the incident
