People are always talking about how much lower priced these are than other brands. I'm not seeing it where I live. They are dead nuts equal to the Tacoma and I can spend about $2k more and get a leather equipped Ridgeline with a moonroof and more features. Local dealerships can't get me one for less than about $42k due to typical option packages that Nissan automatically includes. If I could get a base SV King Cab with the Convenience Package only, I might be interested. Otherwise I'll look elsewhere.

@@scott8238 nah i dont need to. This frontier isnt any faster. It just feels faster because of the more aggressive throttle mapping. You can tune the taco to feel the same. A reputable auto reviewer tested a taco vs a frontier and the taco beat it in the acceleration test. The frontier weighs a whole lot more than a taco which is why its not any faster than the lower powered taco. Simple minded people only think cause the drive by wire is setup to be more aggressive that they think its faster or more powerful. In the end they dont make any meaningful power to be class leading. The nissan supposedly is new yet it fails to be class leading in any test. That in itself is a fail. Back to the bottom of the midsize truck you go

up until 2020 the drivetrain was a 4.0 v6 with fewer gears in the transmission. In 2021 they changed to the 3.8 v6 with the 9 speed transmission. That was the test platform before the new redesigned body style. After driving several brands of truck I have come to realize that certain trucks are made for certain body types. Nissan and Ford are for average sized people or even shorter guys. Chevy is designed for taller folks, being 5'4" I had a hard time getting comfortable in any Chevy truck I have driven. Nissan on the other hand is a perfect fit for me. I have the '21 Frontier right now and I am moving into a 2024 this week. I personally like the redesign. The seats are more comfortable right away, with the seats in the '21 I still haven't been able to get comfortable in. For 1800+ mile road trips that was not a fun time in the drivers seat. This being the third generation of the Frontier it has been changed at least 3 times, whether it is drive train, body styling, interior design an ergonomics, Nissan has made improvements over the past 20 years. Yes they did keep one body style for 16 years, but if something works don't fix it unless sales are slumping due to it being the same boring design. The F-150 is perfect example of that, from the mid to late 90's until 2004 they had the same body style. Before that from the late 80's to late 90's it was a different style. If you go back even further from the early 70's until the 80's it was a different body style.

I have a 2021 Frontier SV with the tow package. It was pre-wired for a brake controller. I found one on Amazon specifically wired for the Frontier for around $50. It plugged right in to the provided clip Nissan installed under the driver's side dash. The hardest part about adding the brake controller was finding a good place to mount it. LOL (I put it on the side of the center console by my leg, within easy reach). Since you're towing a trailer, I'm guessing you have the tow package. Might want to look under the dash for the white plug-in clip for the brake controller. :) Interesting about the steering. I went from a '97 Jeep Wrangler (turn on a dime) to the Frontier, so I did notice the difference in turning radius, but it doesn't feel as bad as what you describe with the '22 Frontier. And it isn't stiff at all, like what you're describing. I drive one-handed all the time. I'm wondering if there's something wrong in yours. (Or maybe it just doesn't seem stiff to me after fourteen years of driving forty-year old tandem axle potato trucks...haha!) I agree it'd be nice to have the telescoping steering wheel. I have really long legs, too. But I was able to solve it by putting a 2" thick gel pad between my back and the seat-back. That way my arm isn't fully extended but my legs still have plenty of room. Overall, I love my '21 Frontier. I opted for the '21 because I prefer the old body style over the new body style (and I figure every junkyard in America will have plenty of body parts for it, should the need ever arise, LOL). It has the same engine and 9 speed tranny as yours, although with mine I can switch from automatic to manual by sliding the shifter over. Yours didn't look like it has that option? I'm still not sure how I feel about that option. Only time will tell if it's a good thing or just one more thing that can fail. ;)

Your choice is either direct injection for the “big” hp numbers they are advertising or not direct injection and reliability and simplicity without it but it will be more of a dog vs the one with it. Real world change those plugs and oil more often than you would without DI and you will be happier as the response time is better. I agree with the simple engine without it but Nissan can’t have a truck that’s way way off HP advertised vs competitors. Every single manufacturer is adding all these features whether the cost benefit even makes sense. I agree with you 100%.
@jasonfalk76962 жыл бұрын
The biggest drawback to DI, is the back of the intake valves getting caked with oil and gunk. Non DI engines benefit because the fuel washes them off as you drive. As far as power, the Chrysler 3.6 is non-DI, and makes 5 less horsepower than this Nissan, albeit in a car, not a Jeep.

I’m glad it isn’t just me. I have a 2022 frontier and really like it but I agree with you about the intelligent cruise control. I have a feeling it’s picking up low hanging tree limbs or a rise in the road. It tends to slow down with nothing in front of me and it will pick back up once I pass the tree limb or start climbing the dip in the road. Also that excessive downshift bugs me when it kicks into to low of a gear and revs up to 4500 rpm and takes off like a bat out of hell. I noticed the engine does not cause the transmission to downshift that extreme when I’m not using the cruise control and going up a hill.

My biggest gripe of my 2022 Pro4X is the cruise control. It is plum crazy. Even a long overpass, it will drop 3-4 gears to make up 2-3 mph. When I’m using the throttle, it might drop one to keep the speed on the same grade. It needs an update.

SV Crew Long Bed with Convenience ( Canada). Availability , price, ride and towing was what I looked for ( came from a 09 Ridgeline). That said, I have the misfire code, waiting on a recall parts for the intake manifold, minor issues with the backup sensors( some reports of better mileage after as well0. People with the Pro4x seem to be having entertainment issues, I am getting annoyed by by rear speakers and their lack of power( I have it like 80/20 now and cant hear them). I like the hyd steering, comparable to my older Ridgeline but the turn radius does suck. Im hearing I will be very annoyed by backing up my trailer with the pedestrian alarms. Towing my 3k lb dry TT is good, lots of power. It has some ghosts in the power seats( they seem to move by themselves overnight). The Intel Cruise is a pain but you can revert to normal( the downshifting is crazy). I put a trailer brake in easy enough, just an extra cost really ( lost opportunity for profit for Nissan) and agree, a trailer package is a missed opportunity. Seat comfort is good+, ride is excellent for a full frame, price was excellent compared to everyone else. End of the day, Im happy.

One of the reasons that I bought Nissan was because of the steering not being electric. Agree with the bad turn ratio. But accessor delay in the radio, Smart Cruse excessive acceleration and transmission yanking when taking off could all be fixed by software. To clarify, screen resolution in Pro-X models is also horrible.
@MrEevilways2 жыл бұрын
I will say on the yanking. Once I reached about 1500 miles, mine was gone. It's constantly smooth as can be for me now. I believe it's due to the transmission supposedly being a "smart" one that adapts to your driving, so it takes awhile for it to break in if you will.

I own a 2002 maxima se manual. Just hit 106k miles. I drive around 7600 miles a year. The car will probably last another 15 or 20 years. These cars weigh less than a 350z and with 255hp there is very little stress on the power train. Having to put 91 octane almost is a blessing because it keeps everything running clean and smooth. I am shopping for a 4x4 suv I can sleep in the back of. The new pathfinder just doesn't have the ground clearance I'm looking for. The 4runner is too expensive in today's market. The new frontier is too expensive as well. Since gas prices are where they are you can find deals on v8s. I may just bite the bullet and get a 2015 GX with 40k miles. If you did your research ahead of time you already knew the SV does not come with a rear diff locker. The 4wd on the SV trim is for snow and light offroading. The Pro 4x trim is specifically designed for heavy offroading, not just because it has a rear locker but also because it has a higher ground clearance and a full set of skid plates underneath. I bought the SV because I don't care about heavy offloading and I'm not tall so I needed something closer to the ground.
@dohc19747 ай бұрын
I don’t get why a truck has to be into “heavy off-roading” to have a rear locker. It really bugs me that it’s not even a option that can be added to the sv, for example a rear locker may become very important in a heavy snow storm even within city limits or if you want to take your family to the beach and drive on sand. I hate the pro x trim because it comes with a short bed and sits tall, I like the sv model because it’s lower to the ground, has a longer bed but no locker, these choices really make it a struggle to pick between the two.

My biggest complaints on the 22 frontier are as follows, first the worst handling truck on a windy day that I have ever owned in my 79 years, it blows all over the inter state roads. Second it has very little power on the road if you go up a very small grade it down shifts usually two gears, no torque. I brought the issues to the MN. dealer & was told that they were all like that. Still i traded my loaded 18,000 mile Colorado for it and found the Frontier a much, much, much better truck.
