Love this truck in the 2022 SV model a minor inconvenience to set the parking brake every time which is what I do anyways. Cable stretch is minor as well. Nissan will fix the problem not too worried about it. Truck still is amazing.

I've been driving since 1967 and likewise, always use my parking brake, never had any transmission problems, and been wearing my seat belt all that time. Parking brake cables stretch and manual parking brakes have adjustability designed into them somewhere in the system. I'm not sure electric parking brakes do though.

Too bad for Nissan on this, but I still love my brand new Pro-4X. I always set my parking break each and every single time I park. I've done this with all of my vehicles and never had a problem where the cables needed to be replaced. They would need adjustments every now and again, but never full replacements. I typically drive my vehicles until they're around 400,000 km's or so. I think the trick is to not STAND on your parking brake pedal with all of your weight. There is a sweet spot where you put your p-brake on tight enough that your truck doesn't roll away when parked on a hill, but not so tight that you're damaging your cables over time. Thanks for the video!!

I'm glad I still have my 2019, it was recently wrecked, currently in for repairs and I was considering trading for a '22 when it's fixed. Guess not right now... I always use the parking brake. I have never thought it to be a good idea to have the weight of the vehicle resting against the parking pawl, and relying only on that to stop it from rolling.

I use the parking brake all the time, its there for a reason. I also, recall or no recall am not trusting a small metal pin to hold a 4200lb vehicle in its place. You can cause more issues with parking brakes by not using them than with using them, especially the top hat style parking brake that the Frontier and many other pickups and suvs use. I've also never seen a parking brake cable stretch or the assembly wear out when regular brake services are done.

I’ve used the emergency brake for parking an automatic or manual transmission for 30 years for the simple reason of keeping tension off that pawl. I cringe when someone parks on an incline then pulls the shifter from park to drive which creates a lot friction and unnecessary wear hence the “clunk” you get from doing that. You should never rest the weight of any vehicle on the transmission alone. Park.. Keep foot on brake and apply emergency/parking brake.

@jameshine7840
@jameshine7840 Жыл бұрын
The only reason you should use your parking brake is when your on an incline. The reason for this is to take all the pressure of the pawl. The proper way to do this is with the brake on, put it in neutral apply the parking brake, release the brake when the little movement is done put in park, that will not put pressure on the pawl. Hope this helps! 😊

According to that report you have in your hands, only .03% of the 180,000 trucks sold has this issue. That’s 54 vehicles or so. I’d be curious what other manufacturers hv done in the past with similar pawl issues? Did they replace the piece or the entire tranny? I would think it would be easier to replace the entire (rebuilt/new)tranny as opposed to tearing into the transmission, which is even more work? I don’t think most newer techs would even know how to repair a transmission. Probably easier just to replace?? 🤷‍♂️🤔 Either way, not a huge deal, but it does eventually need fixing/replacing.
@4-LOW
@4-LOW 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. The official documentation says absolutely nothing about numbers of affected vehicles. It says, and I quote, "Frontier vehicles produced between June 10, 2020 and June 14, 2022". There is nothing that indicates the number of vehicles with the issue, and it only shows the number of vehicles under the recall which is what I mentioned in the video. Hopefully we'll discover later that not all Frontiers could have the issue, but as of right now we don't know that.

@@4-LOW If u belong to Club Frontier forum, there is a recall document/report that was sent to dealerships indicating those numbers. But agree, too early to tell how many and if there is a way to physically tell without ripping into the tranny ?? I’m sure they will go by batch numbers.

Wow I just put a down payment on a 2022 frontier 4 days ago. The dealership said they just need a week to get the recall part in and the truck will be ready. The truck is on the lot and l was in it. I can’t wait to hear the stories they give me now that I know this. I insured the vehicle already and was approved thru Nissan financing but they weren’t allowed for me to sign the lease contract until the part is fixed.

My Dealer is telling me it's a case by case basis on the STOP SALE. The Service Department determines if the defect is there or not. Anyway, that's 1 side of the story. Then again, they are wanting to sell me a new PRO-4X

Not nissans fault. They sourced the trans from jacko. But they will get sorted. I have a 22 pro4X in baja and love it. Zero issues with 10,000 miles. It affects very little trucks. Do t hesitate to get one. Fantastic truck

Also had the power driver side seat fixed as it would move on its own, which is also a known issue.

Hello. I seem to have the same problem with the driver side power seat of my 2022 Frontier. I adjust the driver's seat the way I like it. Seat goes back to default position every time I get in the truck and drive the truck. It is so annoying to keep adjusting the driver's side seat! How did they fix your problem?

Also forgot to mention I have also owned a 2018 Toyota Tacoma, it had a transmission that gave me problems as it got stuck in fifth gear and wouldn't shift higher and gave me high revs at 100 km/hr. In the USA it had a software update under recall and we never got one in Canada. After battling with the dealership they so called fixed the problem, but it still got stuck in gear alternately (a partial fix). Even Toyota has its problems and is not immune to recalls, but my pet peeve is the poor customer relations Toyota has with Canadian customers, as I had to bring it in to get it looked at with no notice from Toyota. The brakes were very poor with the drums in the rear, and the seating was so uncomfortable on long trips gave me a bad back.
@CACressida
@CACressida 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you and most people think the rear brakes do more than what they actually do. Rear brakes when unladen help with straight line stability and when loaded, usually some sort of proportioning valve sends more braking to the rear. You'll probably go through SEVERAL front brake jobs before You'll ever touch the rear brakes. So if your brakes are performing poorly, its 99% the front brakes that are the issue.

@@CACressida however that being said safety is my priority for any vehicle it doesn’t take the fact that it the Tacoma has poor braking regardless. The Tundras have discs… why not the Tacoma.
@CACressida
@CACressida 2 жыл бұрын
@@henrym2260 disc's are always superior and the taco is the only vehicle in the Toyota lineup with drums but that doesn't mean diddly squat. Braking performance amongst all the mid sizes are about the same. Semi trucks hauling 40 tons still use drum brakes so its not exactly a life or death situation.
