How's this GPS been working for you? I'm looking at buying a 64 series unit for my upcoming trips plus I got people always wanting to give me gpx files but I never had a way to upload them to a unit and use them. How easy is it to follow a track from a gpx file? is it turn by turn directions?
@Heartlanddualsport

I love this GPS, it is very user friendly and easy to use. It will be really simple to transfer GPX files to it from your computer etc. I have downloaded numerous files and tracks etc on it. It has expandable memory via a Micro SD card as well and with it mounted on the handle bars the unit lights up enough you can see it clearly even on the brightest of days. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Another cool thing a lot of folks who buy land anymore when the surveyor is there they also GPS the land, so that is a added perk if you buy property, you can get the GPX coordinates as tracks from the land or survey company and have it as well. Turn by turn directions, No sir, this is not like a GPS with the turn by turn directions, you cant enter a city and then hit go like google maps etc, but you can load a track and follow it by keeping an eye on it, hence the bright enough to see even in the daylight. I am not sponsored by this company, I am just extremely happy with this unit and the size of it for moto camping hiking, hunting, back roads etc, With the Typo Maps installed you get a lot of other information and can find trails and routes etc that may not be installed on normal GPS units. I have rode with this in rain, dirt, mud, etc and it still functions like new. The only other contender, i have looked at since buying a this unit and the jeep and having more room in the jeep is the Magellan TR5 or TR7, The TRX when it was first released didn't have road maps, its suppose to have trails loaded, turn by turn didn't work with it either. They have sense updated it and it has streets, and trails now, I know one guy personally who owns the TRX7 and he has had nothing but problems with his, so for that price point, I wont be looking for one of those. The New TR5- and TR7 look intriguing to me, but they are both new and my good friend who is sponsored by them received both of them last week. The TR7 would not load any of the GPX tracks, faulty from the company, they are sending him a new one, but you will never hear that if you watch his channel, since it is free, it will be nothing but butterflies and rainbows. heheheh. I can safely say that based on prior experience with him, and yes he is a friend, but he is a sponsored friend, I tend to tell it like it is and I work hard for my money and if it wont work like it should I let folks know, otherwise I am just another channel. Again after talking with him on the TR5 and TR7, I am out since he is already having issues with at least one of the units. I know this is lengthy, but I figure if you are like me and money don't grow on trees, I want to know if its gonna work out of the box. I do carry extra double a batteries with me for this unit, it will last a good while, but I normally forget to turn it off by the time I get to camp and leave it one and still get a couple of days out of it, but it has never left me wondering where I am and has always worked flawlessly. I hope this helps. Dale

Heartland Dual Sport thanks for the detailed information,,,, I was looking at the TRX7 unit as well but didn’t really think I needed to spend $499-$549 for a gps for a dirt bike.Simple is good sometimes and the TRX7 may just be a little to feature rich for ole dual sport guy like me.

Yes sir, you are very welcome. I agree, when they get it working correctly it will make for a great unit. But the 7 is also bigger than an iPad mini as far as size and weight and there is not a ton of real estate on the dual sports to begin with. Keep me posted on what you end up going with my friend, and have a blessed day. Dale

I have been very happy with my 64ST. It's my off road GPS. I'm on my 5th Garmin just to keep up to date with Tech. Had a 76 csx that still works. Just gave it away recently. Garmin is a great company and very helpful.

Hello, thanks for your video. If you are still active here, I'd like some feedback from you : - How does this gps performs when it comes to long tracks ? Would be suitable for the TAT or a bigger gps would be better ? - Can you plug it while riding ? - In the sunny weather, the screen is enough bright ? - When you are following a path, do you see yourself (the little triangle) from the top (like a satellite view) or more like Waze for example ? Thanks !

I’m not as active as I should be. I do still do some KZbin videos on a different channel. Wow that’s a lot of questions. I have had no issues seeing the screen while riding. A larger screen bigger version may be helpful if you have the Realestate for a large screen deal like the OffRoad GPS that I have in my Jeep. The tracks show you as a triangle as your going down it. It does not do turn by turn directions like a normal road GPS. The batteries. I used double a. They last a long time time and I have never had any trouble carrying an couple extra in the tank bag. Takes up less space than a cord and plug in. I’m in my phone and I can scroll up to see what other questions you may have. But overall it’s a great bike mount gpS for a small hand held unit. Yes there is some with larger screens this one is not bad for a small unit. They have actually upgraded this model and the new upgraded one I believe is cheaper than what I paid back when I got this one. I still use this one for hunting etc. I am currently with out a dual sport. I have a couple of four wheelers and plain to get another dual sport this fall or first of the year. Again I hope this helps. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment snd I hope you have a blessed week Dale.

I’ve been laying GPX files over google maps to use on my phone later. I also have an open GPX tracker app on my phone that I can run in the background which saves in GPX so that I can either reload onto google maps for my use or send to someone else. GPS tracking will still work on your phone without service (you can even take an old phone and use it strictly for gps) however service is helpful to load the satellite view. I know riders that use both a gps and my method. I couldn’t justify a gps when I was already doing everything on my phone. However for the sake of ease and simplicity I think I’m picking myself up one for Christmas. I just wonder if I’ll ever use all of the features.

I do have an app now that I can download the maps for off grid use. I am still happy with my GPS and I use both pretty regular for not only riding but hunting as well. So it’s a huge perk. I figure if my phone dies I still have the GPS as a back up or primary unit. They had them on sale recently for only $200 bucks witch is much cheaper than I bought mine for. Not sure if they are still for sale or not. But they do make a great unit. Fits in handle bars, clips to back pack. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Keep us posted on what you decide. Have a blessed week. Dale.

Yes sir I have a smaller one I have used many years while hunting and I got this one with the bigger screen to mount on the bike and I am very pleased with it for my little DRZ. I would want a more road oriented one if I did a lot of long range travels on the bike, but I don't do a whole lot of that on the DRZ. It is perfect for the trails we have been riding. Thanks and have a blessed week my friend.

@Heartlanddualsport

I have had it over a year now and have had no issues. It connects to satellites fast. Battery life is more than adequate. The screen is easy enough to see in daylight as well. It is easy to see use and I operate after you familiarize yourself with the options and functions. It is easy to upload GPx tracks etc to the Unit via the USB cable and software. Software is both windows and Mac users which I s a huge perk. I’m an Mac guy and having the software work on Mac is a huge perk. Lots of programs are windows only or spotty Mac uses. It is small enough to not block your view like some of the bigger units out here. Through it in your pocket or back pack if you do any hiking fishing hunting and donit all with one unit. So there are those perks as well. Handle bar mount for motorcycle holds Unit safely and secure. Being rather proof I have used it all day in rhe rain no issues. I am pleased with it and would recommend it and no they don’t even know me so they didn’t give it to me for free so I would say good things about it. I just believe in it. I have another video coming soon for another Unit. But if it helps it is not any good and nothing I would recommend for Jeep users. Not being water or dust proof definitely not a motorcycle user GPS. That’s my two cents. Hope it helps let me know what you decide and what you end up getting if you get a Unit down the road. Thanks for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale.

I’m so lost on the gps stuff. Do you have to download the maps before you go? Does it have a monthly subscription? All I really want is to drop waypoints and it would be cool to see altitude.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 4 жыл бұрын
I completely understand, I have been there before as well. This GPS is cheaper now since they have come out with a newer model. No sir, you do not have to download maps with a GPS like this, it comes with the maps installed, if you was hiking and wanted a more detailed map, you can purchase a higher quality map and load it to the Micro sd card, but for general use, that is not necessarily something I would suggest. I would say use it as is and if down the road you feel you need more detail, upgrade the map or service then. But I use it as is and I believe garmin has a yearly service, you dont need it, it works fine out of the box with no extra fees. Thanks again and I hope this helps answer your questions. Have a blessed week. Dale

I have been planning on getting a GPS but just know the basics about them. Can you list a few points of why you choose this model over others?
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 8 жыл бұрын
Sure, and sorry for the delay my friend. This one you can use Garmin Base Camp, it is the computer side of the GPS and you can actually pre make routers and tracks to follow, say you want to go explore an area with some roads and offload trails both, Since this GPS comes Preloaded with Street maps and Topo you can see both the Street and Offload trails. You can then send them to your GPS and the screen is big enough to see it when mounted on your handle bars, It will help you stay on your route you chose. If you don't want to pre plan routes you can still see where you are at any given time and choose a different route and fly by the seat of your pants and follow your track back to base camp if your choose to do that, you will see where you have been and how to get back it helps to keep you from getting lost. This one is also somewhat water proof, so if you get stuck in the rain, it will still work and you wont loose your info. One the biggest things for me and why I chose it, I have tried numerous times to map with my iPhone and 3/4 of the time i get in an area the iPhone does not have service, so it wont work and all your pre planning wont make any difference when you can't see where you are, so to me that has proven to be useless many times. One of the other cool features is it has blue tooth, so say you find a really cool road or trail off the beaten path, and you want to share it with your buddy, if you buddy has the same model or some similar with bluetooth you can send it wirelessly to him, or if you pre plan a route you can actually send it to him with him standing close by wirelessly so he knows where you are going etc. these are just a few of the features that I really like, and it fits my style of riding with the DRZ. I do not do a ton of highway since it is a DRZ, but if i do I can still see what highway etc. you can zoom in or out on the screen so you can watch the movements closer if you are on a tight trail and or a mix of trails. and or zoom out if you are on a long highway. Feel free to ask anything else, I am sure i have missed a few but these are some of the key things I was looking for and wanted in a GPS that is simple to use right out of the box and not needing a masters degree to figure out how to use it, it is still simple and has a ton of features for an easy to use out of the box GPS.

+oldschooldirtbiker yes sir. You can do both. Using Garmin software you can pre make routes Etc send them to the unit. The unit also records all your tracks you can save to your computer Etc. Also if your buddy has the same GPS or one with Bluetooth capabilities. You can send him the tracks from a specific route Etc trails or whatever wirelessly. Which is cool if you want to share with your buddy with out the need of a computer to do so. Fun stuff thank you sir and have a blessed week.

This GPS has the street maps installed from the factory as well as a typo map. It is a good GPS for my style of OffRoad. I am not sure about the ZUMO. If you want one with a bigger screen depending on what bike you have there is a bigger one made by Magellan. It’s the TRX7 Explorist. Kinda pricey but would make a great one you can out in your car or truck Jeep or whatever when your not on your bike. Has typo and off road trails and logging roads etc. very nice but twice the price of his one.
