Haha, great reaction as always fellas! To answer your question - Babymetal's name is a Pun, and not necessarily a direct reference to the girl's age originally: *Babymetal:* _ベビーメタル_ (Bebīmetaru) *Heavymetal:* _ヘビーメタル_ (Hebīmetaru) Therefore, their name will always apply as a "deviation" of heavy metal, regardless of age. As for the ladies' level of interest and commitment to this project, I would say it is now higher than ever. Paraphrasing a bit form their Mar 2023 Billboard Japan interview: Su and Moa went on hiatus after 2021's 10th anniversary, which was a "finish line" of sorts. They both took the time to re-evaluate their lives. Su even stepped away from music for a bit. However, both came back because they both genuinely felt that they love Babymetal and music in general, and wants to regroup and start fresh. This led to their return in 2022/2023 and 1 month later in Apr 2023, establishing the "new" Babymetal with Momo as an official 3rd member. Hope that sheds some light on everything! 🤘🦊

Great reaction, you have a lot of detailed answers about the name BABYMETAL, what it means (and why there is absolutely no need or reason for it to change). Did they see themselves still performing as BABYMETAL so many years on? No, they were not looking beyond their graduations from Sakura Gakuin - even Amuse thought it would be a short-lived and failed experiment with no future beyond Su's graduation from Sakura Gakuin in 2013. When the idea of them separating from SG to continue was floated the girls and their parents were asked if that was what they wanted to happen and they had the option to say no. Moa actually took some persuading from Yui to say yes. When Yui was taken ill at the end of 2017 they nearly cancelled the Legend S concerts - Yui knew how important those concerts were to Su and insisted they go on without her. In 2018 when Yui could not perform or tour Su and Moa had a really hard time thinking they may not be accepted as a duo without Yui and after she left in October 2018 they again had the chance to quit. They decided to continue to their 10th anniversary in 2020 as they had agreed to do that even before Yui was taken ill. There is no Kami Band on any of the records, they do not do the studio recordings, they are the band for live performances. 'Doki Doki Morning' pre-dates the very first appearance of the Kami Band by 2 years. It was recorded late October 2010, the video was made nearly a year later in 2011 (Su was 13, Yui and Moa both 12), the full version was posted on the new BABYMETAL channel in 2012.

"There is no Kami Band on any of the records,…" Kami Band member Leda Cygnus (Shinji Yuuto) contributed both guitar and bass on 'Arkadia'. He was also in the studio for Metal Resistance songs like 'Amore', and wrote the arrangement for 'No Rain, No Rainbow'. I've never heard that Yui convinced Moa to keep going with the group after Su would be graduating from Sakura Gakuin. Just that Moa took the longest time to decide it was something that she wanted to commit to.

The video is actually 13 years old. When they made it, Babymetal was a sub unit of larger idol group, Sakura Gakuin. 11 years ago, Babymetal broke off and went independent, and reloaded all their videos on the new channel for the band. Did Babymetal think about quitting? They did more than think, they quit. Moa and Su had decided sometime prior to play through the end of their contracts, which ended in 2020, but were delayed until 2021 for the pandemic. In lore they were sealed at that point, but Su said in a Billboard interview "I said to myself, 'I am done. No more metal'". And walked away. Su said she never thought of Babymetal after that, while Moa thought of it every day. Moa went to visit, and they rented a karaoke room and played music, and danced, and Su's fire was rekindled. And they reformed the project. But it was a long hiatus, and now there are 3 again, and they seem much happier on stage this time.
@emb50915 ай бұрын
After Yui left in 2017/2018 due to health issues, if I remember correctly, Su and Moa had the ability or option to stop doing BABYMETAL if that's what they wanted, but from my understanding (which they discussed in an article/interview) after really considering BABYMETAL, themselves, and their roles, the 2 girls decided to push forward with BABYMETAL, and continue to grow and challenge themselves. What's great about this is that they are here because they choose to be here still, not because they are forced or contracted to still be here. Like many other famous music groups there is a good chance that they may retire eventually, possibly to try other things (Su mentioned during an interview just before graduating from Sakura Gakuin that if she wasn't doing BABYMETAL, she would like to do musical theater), but "only the fox god knows!". 🤘🦊🤘

They were the first to combine cute jpop vocals to heavy AF metal music, plus their early songs had lyrics that were meant to be relatable to young girls. So imagine ALL of the hate that they got from the metal and rock community in Japan at the time! BABYMETAL are a great example of perseverance paying off. In a recent interview on the "Nova Rock Festival" channel, Su was asked for any tips for new young female artists. Su mentions how not everyone understood what they were doing and how metal fans can be very critical, but they kept doing what they were doing and eventually they started getting positive feedback...so her advice was "Don’t get disheartened by criticism.".🤘🦊🤘

@@BlackArr0w I don't think I have listened to all of Maximum the Hormone's songs, but none of the songs I have listened to have cute Jpop idol-type vocals from beginning to end like BABYMETAL's songs. They do have clean vocal parts, but more like half clean vocals and half hard rock/metal vocals. And I definitely wouldn't consider them to be kawaii metal. If you removed the instrumentals to a BABYMETAL song, you could turn the songs into Jpop idol songs pretty easily... for example, Monochrome piano version and Akatsuki unfinished version. I really like Maximum the Hormone and I need to listen to them more!

@@KenjaTimu I think by definition, what they do IS weird, definitely different...and I think for me, I discovered them at a time where I needed that breath of fresh air...I needed weird, different, and new. Yeah, I remember listening to whatever metal and rock MTV was playing back in the early 80s, such as Heart. Which is why I think it wasn't exactly too hard for my brain to accept BABYMETAL's music, since back then there were a lot of glam rock and hair metal songs, and screams and growls wasn't a requirement for metal until later. My first BABYMETAL song was Gimme Chocolate, so it was the overly cute parts by Moa and Yui that really turned me off, BUT it was Mikio''s guitar solo that kept me interested. Eventually my brain got use to both hearing and seeing 3 little girls singing over heavy metal and I accepted that its ok for a 40+ year old guy like me (at the time) to be listening to songs performed by teen girls! The "BABY" in BABYMETAL is not a reference to their ages at the time the group was formed. "BABY" refers to "new", so a "new type of metal"... BUT, as Japanese do, there is also a more thought out aspect to it than that! The Japanese for "BABYMETAL" is very close to the Japanese for "heavy metal". It appeared on their own channel in November 2012. They have mentioned that their name "BABYMETAL" was chosen in first instance to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal). And it's also a pun, because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is very similar to "heavy metal" (and they love puns): BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) 🤘🦊

Well done guys checking out the og mv of this song. As I said on the Legend MM version, this is where it all started. The song was released in 2011 (recorded in late 2010, when the girls were 11 and 12 years old) on the first Sakura Gakuin album and later released as a digital single. The video came originally out in 2011 but the full version was released in Nov 2012 on Babymetals YT channel. It was aimed at teenagers and girls as you can see in the video since it has that kids vibe to it. Btw the name Babymetal has nothing to do with the age of the girls, but rather to the birth of the new metal genre they created. So there is no need to change it, since they still stick to their theme of creating new type of music with everything they release. 🤘🦊🔥

Plus, in Japanese culture, a grandma can be cute as well, so the brand Babymetal can be carried all their life time. Beside the reasons people explained how Babymetal got their name. My personal theory is that KOBA metal (Babymetal producer) has the ambition to produce "NEXT GENERATION METAL", which is a goal too big to speak out loud.
