Marine Rescue Ballina was asked to assist a 30 meter ketch and deliver fuel to keep their bilge pumps working until they could get to a safe haven to render repairs. Ballina Bar was breaking wall to wall with a three meter swell and a runout tide.

Great job guys, now that's a nasty bar and can't believe the color of your water, must be flood runout, from another skipper Marine Rescue Exmouth. If you do read this, may I ask what vessel is that of yours and what power units are you running?

I thought the job they did picking their way out through the breakers was excellent until I watched the smooth ride back in with a following sea. Solid seamanship, but often overlooked for the sake of "hey everyone, look at me". Great job fellas!

Excellent seamanship and precise handling out of and into the bar, I sure hope those bilge pumps keep on going for the Ketch till they safely reach the harbor. Hey Mates, Thanks for sharing this SAR Mission! I work as a volunteer at the German Maritime Rescue Station Prerow/ Wieck. It was extremely interesting to see your crew behave and work on and with your Rescue vessel, because it is very similar to our boat. I would like to see how you use the few space and with which items you are equipped. Is there any possibility to visit your amazing crew and boat some day? On my next visit in Australia I would visit your station. Always return safely! Greetings from Prerow, Germany!

Somebody please explain to me how 5 gallons of fuel was going to save this 90' vessel? They have only diesel powered bilge pumps - which means engine or generator driven, I'm sure. So a 90' vessel calls for a delivery of 5 gallons of diesel. Well, it's nice to know that certain people are willing to risk their lives to deliver a jerry can to a vessel that undoubtedly carries thousands of gallons, but that suddenly finds itself 1 jerry can short? Am I missing something extremely fundamental here????? WTF??? If you're captain of a 90' vessel with crew aboard, and you're running your resource margins so short that you feel your ship is in danger without 5 more gallons of diesel, maybe you should take an onshore job where peoples' lives aren't at stake. Just sayin. Jeeeeesh!!!
@Intermtn9736
@Intermtn9736 Жыл бұрын
A sailboat hull is incredibly efficient and usually runs on a relatively tiny diesel engine (10-25hp). That engine can go for many miles on a single gallon of diesel. Not excusing this guys behavior, but it’s not the gas guzzling machine you think (source: sailed boat to Bahamas from South Carolina).

Radio comms need to be precise and concise. Mistaking Feet for Inches may be a simple error, but could have a massive knock on effect in certain circumstances. Obviously in this case it was instantly apparent that 30m is not equal to 98.5 inches, but that fella needs to be careful in the future.
