Industry numbers say 35 to 40% hence it is common for the client to carry out a cheaper 2D survey before committing to a more expensive 3D. It is common for clients to invest in reservoir evaluation (4D) surveys for already successful wells than do new prospects.

No it's not. Cruise ship is vacation on a ship. Offshore is for oil exploration on sea. The only similarities between the two is that it's both on a ship on sea, while one is a fun trip the other is work trip.

Depends on the size of the vessel and the amount of work that needs to be done. Typically between 40 and 65 crew members but if you followed my recent offshore videos, one of my colleagues said he has been on a vessel with over 100 people. I can't say the average salary because each department has a different pay grade. Some people are paid on a daily basis hence not paid when they are at home. So many permutations and combinations when it comes to pay. You can google individual jobs titles to have an idea.

In this industry, a data processor specifically processes seismic data into a readable image. The data analysts commonly talked about these days is actually a broad job title and till the specifics of what they analyze is mentioned, I would call them statistical data analysts. The equivalent of that in oil exploration would be a Seismic Interpreter or Geoscientist who looks at the processed seismic data and says where the hydrocarbon deposit is.

We call it coverall (American) because that's what we are used to calling it offshore. Overall (British) is also correct. Though Americans will say that overall is dungarees 😃 but both words describe the same one-piece protective clothing won when doing dirty work. 😊

Any position for a quantity surveyor in this industry?

For offshore positions, the surveyors I meant are those that studied geophysical mapping. Since quantity surveying involves project costing, where you may fit into the industry is in the office in the project planning cum sales department where they cost the project and present quotes to the client. So with some years experience in quantity surveying and a well written CV, you may be able to convince a recruiter that you know the basics of costing. When you come into the industry you will then learn the specifics of costing a seismic project on the job.

There's no age limit in the industry because that would be age discrimination but it is better to start as young as possible. Usually in your 20s to early 30s. If changing careers, any age is ok as long as you feel strong and fit. 😀
