I like Keith Wood. I recall a very amusing moment many years ago involving Keith. Quins had won the European Challenge Cup, or whatever it was called back then, and I believe another English side had won what was then the Heineken Cup. Post-match a plummy BBC journalist interviewed Keith over the stadium PA system and began to enthusiastically list all the achievements for English clubs and ergo, English rugby, that season. Wood's face slowly morphed from genial smile to furrowed brow, until the now grinning journalist put it to Keith that it had been a "wonderful season for English rugby in general, marvellous, wouldn't you say?". Wood paused and said something along the lines of "I couldn't give a toss about English rugby, but I'm chuffed for Quins". There was laughter and a few cheers from the crowd. I loved that as an Englishman, lovely response and typically dry humour from the man.

Love these interviews. It’s like listening into a private conversation between two rugby legends. Dallaglio was an immense player and leader. Martin Johnson and Dallaglio were a formidable pair for England. Miss those days!

Lawrence is the epitome of a rugby lover. A total gent. Rugby is so rich having the likes of him. Love and respect from Dublin.

An absolute legend of the game. Remember vehemently defending his record the day he retired to my Welsh workmates. Didn't make me very popular but he was a huge presence who made a massive difference to all sides he played for. Thanks Lawrence.

Why did you have to defend his record to your Welsh work mates? Surely they could acknowledge what a great rugby player Dallaglio was. I’m Welsh and the fact that that a rugby player might be English has no concern for me. If a player is great then he should be saluted no matter which colour jersey he wears. Sometimes I despair of my fellow countrymen.

Could listen to these two all day. Remember Keith’s drop goal attempt on the 2001 Lions tour. These guys are legends of the game & two of the best of their generation.

They both went well for the Lions in '97. Pack did a hell of a job on that tour.

Keith Wood's question on resting the players is spot on. The Irish won the Grand Slam and looked fresh, fit and focused in every game - they deserved to win. England looked tired and jaded and were lucky to even beat Wales.

His sister was on that Thames Party boat, The Marchioness when it was struck by another much larger ship one dark night. Awful tragedy. They were very close I understand and I think that event shaped him more than he even knows himself. Class player, serious contender and seemingly a very nice guy. Always really admired him and how he played. In that era though, he defo chose the correct white Jersey over the green (or certainly blue) however much I would have loved to see him line out alongside Fester. 🇮🇪

Two great, great players. Dallaglio is one of the top 3 Number 8s of all time. Toss up between this man, Imanol Harinordoquy, Mervyn Davies, Zinzan Brooke, and Wayne Shelford. I'd give it to Shelford...just with Dallaglio second.

Haha loved the comment from LD about playing on the wing... think I played two or three games at 14 and then told the boss I'd be playing 12 after freezing my nuts off for 80 mins! Also had the pain/pleasure of watching Munster play against Dallaglio's Wasps many times in Thomond Park, always titanic tussles, what a fantastic club!

As a musician I can suggest you watch them both hold their mic's- obviously not a skill they have - they're waving them around like wands 😅 this isn't something the engineer or equipment can be fualted for but I agree most annoying. Great advert to put clip on lapel mic's on guys not used to using one

It's more Keith's voice and mic technique I think. It's right in the back of his throat so he needs to bring the mic up to his mouth. Lawrence projects his voice properly. My work colleague is like Keith. I have to ask him to repeat everything.
