Just ordered in-stock helmet from Medieval Extreme, and glad they are doing better with orders and they are safer (for now). I highly recommend them, and for our group just starting Buhurt here in Tampa, FL we are definitely learning from videos like these on what to expect, and working soft-kit fighting for now until we are all armed

Correction on the claim that knights at first were not able to deal with arrows well. Chain mail does get penetrated by arrows, that is true, however, knights often wore a wool hauberk which prevented the arrow from digging in. The chain mail would break the initial force of the arrow resulting in the arrow getting stuck in the hauberk. Many sources from the First and Second Crusades often described the knights as resembling hedgehogs more than men in armor after Turkish barrages.

The actual killings back then were done either by blunt force trauma to the head or by stabbing either with a sword or with a dagger when wrestling ensued and one knight fell to the ground. What Hollywood has done is a shame and gave many people a wrong impression of what actual fighting looked like.

Not necessarily because as seen in the battle of agincourt among others, they had arrows designed specifically for penetrating enemy plates and the shoulders face and other spots had extreme weak spots

Usually if there's a team near you you'll wanna get in touch with them, probably get some foam training gear, then you'll end up training in loaner armor

Great question! A lot of people repair their armor at the events. When we were there we saw quite a few anvils that competitors used to fix their equipment

It is very hard to get good throws in the armour! But reaps can work like a charm, just dont fall with your opponent or you are out too.

I wonder how close these are to real tourney melee fights that took place between knights. the melee was two teams of knights on foot or horseback, the goal was to break the other's defensive line and surround/capture enemy knights. on horse it was to dismount the enemy. or it was a free for all with many. the melee was not often 1 on 1 like jousting but it happened. I know jousting competitions today, where allowed, are the real deal. 3 lances and depending on the rules it can go on for hours if neither knight yields.
