Just an idea. If you do keep the burned down building and incorporate some of the old walls and architecture that’s already there, I think a cool name would be “The Phoenix Bar and Grill” or something like that. Like it burnt down once and it is going to come back stronger.

I have to agree on this, put in a dirt/hardpack runway (short) with some concrete tie downs or perhaps some prefab hangers, only 2-3 plus a helipad. This would let guests fly in and out (small plane) and if you have an emergency(or a neighbor has one) you have a place for lifeflight to come in and out of.

Leica is a manufacturer of cameras, optics, microscopes, binoculars and optical measuring equipment. Founded back in 1849 in Germany... Leica is really High quality stuff. Leica also makes rifle scopes👍

The newest CoD with mapping tools is Black Ops 3. But hey, a Zombies map would be pretty fun! If Matt releases the map file it could be done. Just a bit of filetype conversion and probably making it smaller, like just the main area and buildings. I would use CryEngine over Unreal for a VR environment. It's a much better choice for big outdoor scenes, that's what its purpose built for. Unreal is an arena shooter engine that they have tacked on features to make it handle large maps but every game that has used it that way runs poorly.

I used to work for a company that basically did just that, but over 20 years ago. Our most frequent customers were companies that built oil refineries and chemical plants; huge complex systems that had many different engineers in different parts of the world. They used the software to ensure different designer's pipes and such lined up properly in virtual space, rather than discovering a misalignment error out at the build site.

My uncle is a land surveyor (I work for him in the office kinda like a secretary/office aid) and he has a LiDAR scanner as well and he scan properties for customers just like the guy you had out at the ranch. Topos are really important for planning out landscaping and really any land improvements. A LiDAR scan is super awesome you can see so much information in a LiDAR scan (kinda like a 3D topo). So neat you’re getting one done! Its going to be so helpful in your planning having that scan. Any architect or surveyor would be able to use that scan. BTW you could show up in the scan kinda like a ghost image if you stay in the way. You can definitely fly through the point cloud. I’ve done some edits for my uncle that he could show the client. Like a virtual drone fly through but in the point cloud. You can do x ray vision too it’s really cool. Sick edit btw. so fun to clip down buildings like that it looks awesome!😄 Wow it’s fun knowing exactly what’s going on with the scanner and how it all works. 😄You have the contour lines showing nice! That’s super helpful!

The zoom out shot with the drone at the end of the video sold me on the idea of putting the Desperado ruins in a CoD map. You can almost see the natural three lane design running left to right across the resort. With some extra debris or broken cars for cover in the wide open areas, the map could play incredibly well.

Took him out shooting with some of my guns about a month ago and we all had a great time. HiMatt, Thanks for bringing us along and including the process of the scan. Very interesting! Those arches are very beautiful and would be a serious loss if they are taken down. Obviously, safety is a concern. How about clear epoxy to strengthen it, as it has building purposes also! and you can still see underneath. Also, even though the other building that was scanned, you can still use it for plans to rebuild a similar building. As always, God bless and take care from your long-time California subscriber.

If you've met some of the neighbouring ranches, talk to them about oil dust control spray for gravel roads. It's as good for the environment as millings and may be a cheaper option to stabilize the gravel and keep dust down. Millings does in fact wash out in big rain falls so that's one thing to keep an eye on.

I got a chance to work with an older generation of these Leica systems back in the late 2000s (I think it was the first and second generation ScanStation). We were still hand-stitching shots together using datum targets, and the number of points the computers could handle was significantly more constrained. The beauty of the system is, say the engineers came back and tell you the walls of the burned building just aren't safe. You now have geometry down to the level of each individual stone's position and orientation. You could ID every stone, (gently) tear the building down, and rebuild it to it's current appearance with better bones and fresh mortar. It's wild some of the restorations they were doing with the tech even back then.

that topo map would help you or a permaculture designer figure out the best way to capture and manage your rain catchment with swales and ponds if you decide to do that, which would be a wise thing to do in a desert. you could capture enough water on that land to have year round ponds and create new springs in about 10 years when the ground gets fully saturated with water like a sponge. These are used in real estate, when we do 3D mapping of homes. Complete game changer for open houses. Matterport is a way that we can get a feel for the size and view angles etc, prior to getting someone to an open house and I think it draws more people in to places when they feel like they’re inside the place, can feel the ceiling height and window sizes and floor space. This was really cool to see. Would be a cool photo to have hanging up too - a sky view of the place and you could watch it progressively change over time. Very cool thing to have for many reasons - and not juts for work.

What's cool about Lidar is, it can tell trees and shrubbery from ground, rock, and structure. While looking at the scans, you can toggle trees and shrubbery on and off to see THROUGH that stuff and see ONLY the ground and buildings! That's gonna be a HUGE help! Also, I'd LOVE to go out there and clear out the rocks debris, and stuff from the burned-out main building. But I have nothing else to contribute. Matt, i would really think about putting in a large trailer park, say start w/ 40 spots and have room to expand to 150 in an area of your property. Id even look into Boxables, little foldable cabins. You have so much land, you could have areas dedicated to trailer park, your resort main areas, to so many different things everywhere.

A private drag strip and burnout pad at the ranch would be so sick Matt! Think about it you could test the top speed on all your fast cars!! Just don't tell Mere 😂😂

Matt, put in some remote camp sites right away so you can get campers/paying customers in as fall tamps cool down. There may already be some, if they were cleaned up. Parking pads and a fire ring are basicly all you need to provide. If you built toilet and showers near and you can be up and running, quickly. If you could open remotes up for horse camping, they all are remote campers and bring their own pens and corrals or picket lines. Horse people just need land to ride on.

Not sure if it’s everyone’s cuppa tea, but I’d sure like to see it. Keep your chin up. It’ll all come out in the wash. Besides, you love this work yeah?! Keep smilin Matt! 😊

For the outdoor dining , I think you should 100% put up a 2nd story outdoor deck/patio for the fire place . That would be so awesome if the 2nd story fire place was still useable . And the view from a 2nd story outdoor deck would be so cool

Most likely, the mortar is compromised, having been "cooked". The solution is to remortar the stonework. Matt should hire a few expert masons.

I've used LIDAR aerial mapping for mapping firegrounds and the ground-based stuff like was used here for arson investigation, it's incredible stuff and enables you to get a far better perspective than you get from just standing there. Some of my favorite tech, in fact.

Matt consider doing chip seal on the gravel/dirt roads. They use that alot here in Indiana on the country roads. Basically just spray liquid asphalt and spread gravel over it.

Not sure if you've got it down in Texas, but in rural Ontario the municipalities will spray a solution of Calcium Chloride onto the dirt roads to keep the dust down. Basically just creates a thin bonding layer on the top which doesn't wash away too easily. Might be a 'good enough for now' kind of solution, until you get the re-hashed asphalt down. Keep that chin up~! Progress is progress~!
