For example - BtoB's The Winter's Tale, which has such a Aegyo fun Christmas vibe, but the lyrics are about a guy who misses his ex-gf and promises not to cry when he thinks of her with another guy. Or think of Big Bang's Haru Haru, which is such an upbeat sounding song, but the mv is so sad

Hi Thina, i just wanted to say THANK YOU sooo much for reacting to TEMPO :) This song means alot to me, it was my very first exo comeback and gateway into discovering EXO and Kpop in general back then towards the end of 2018. Honestly and i still believe if TEMPO didnt exist i wouldve never discovered EXO and listen to Kpop so im very thankful to this iconic song and yall i miss Tempo era, where at the time because im still new i didnt know that was our precious ot9 comeback with Lay making a cameo appearance in the mv but we did hear him sing some lines in the chinese version :) Chen's iconic I CANT BELIEVE, sehun's hair slick, rap and harmonizing with Chen, xiumin's spiky hairstyle, Kai's viral first crop top Exo comeback, the BED SQUEAK and ACAPELLA BRIDGE?! I love it! Suho's backing vocals throughout the song, D.o's adlibs, Beakhyun's runs in the acapella section, Chanyeol's blue eye contacts, i could go on and on but yall get the gist ;) I miss and love Tempo era! oh and Thina did you know Exo covered The Beatles's ALL MY LOVING 7 years ago when they were on SBS Star Face Off show? Chen also covered John Lennon's IMAGINE 5 years ago on Steve Barakatt 20th anniversary concert, also chen and baekhyun joined UNICEF 2016 project singing IMAGINE as well :) Exo is just amazing and im glad i got to discover them and their music!

The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so the song is constantly changing tempos. I think the change in tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness that EXO are feeling within the storyline in the MV. However, if you read the lyrics, you see that the song is talking to a girl and they are telling her, "Don't mess up my tempo." And yes, part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. However, as with everything EXO does, there are duel meanings depending on how deeply you want to interpret the song and MV. On the surface the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on. So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. The aesthetic of the "Tempo" MV is centered around the color red because the setting is supposed to be depicting the members under the Red Forces' control. Without going into too much detail -- there is so much going on in EXO's "Tempo" MV that it's hard to grasp it all -- what fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is it is showing the members of EXO all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Baekhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc. They could also still be trapped in different rooms within the maze, like what we saw them in in "Overdose." For several of EXO's MVs we believe they are still trapped within the maze and they are continuously trying to find their way out. The maze seems to affect their connection to their powers and it clouds their minds and dulls their senses, so not only are they fighting the Red Force and X-EXO, but they are also struggling to break free from the fog the Red Force has them in. That's why you see some of the members just lazily sitting around and kind of blankly staring off into space at times. Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so this is one example of where we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside. You see Chanyeol being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO members created by the Red Force -- or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted. As you may have noticed, halfway through the MV Chanyeol's eyes and hair change color, so some think that this is either showing two different versions of Chanyeol who appear in two different time periods or dimensions, or one is Chanyeol the EXO member and one is Chanyeol the X-EXO clone. In the very last scene, that is Baekhyun with that cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline. As you may have noticed, you also see EXO's Chinese member Lay in this MV, but you won't see or hear him sing or dance in the MV because you watched the Korean version and at this time the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version of "Tempo", but he wasn't allowed to participate in the song. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to watch the Mandarin version of the "Tempo" MV. Lay has a few lines in the Mandarin version, but he was not allowed to work with the other members, so all his parts were recorded separately and they had to be inserted into the song and MV. He had to get special permission even to take part in this comeback, and this is the closest we have gotten to seeing him back with the group since all these political issues started almost 5 years ago now. And so far, this is the one and only time you will see him in an EXO MV and song since 2016. However, as you may know, the tension between Korea and China has started to let up and the Chinese government, has recently rescinded their ban on Korea and China working together, so we have the potential to see Lay come back to do a project with EXO in the future. It's kind of mind blowing the amount of planning and manipulation SM Entertainment has been doing over the years to connect all the dots and to continue the story. It gets even crazier when you realize how even the most minute of details were crafted to be a hidden message or detail within that storyline. Nothing in this MV is random or done just because, even the smallest of detail has been planned out to either connect to something to do with EXO's storyline from past MVs or it will become a key part to help explain something in one of their future MVs. As a refresher, here is a list of the members and what their powers are to help you pinpoint the powers being used in their MVs and live performances. EXO-K 💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho) 💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light 🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire and his spirit animal is the phoenix. 🌏D.O. (Do KyungSoo) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control earth (dirt) which gives him strength/force ☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation. (Kai means opening as in a door or gateway, so his stage name symbolizes his role within EXO's storyline.) 🌪Sehun is the youngest member of the group and he is a main rapper, main dancer and a vocalist -- his power is the ability to control wind EXO-M ❄Xiumin (Kim MinSeok) is the oldest member of the group and he is a lead vocalist and lead rapper and his power is the ability to control snow/ice (frost) 🦄 Lay (Zhang Yixing) is the Chinese member of the group, he is a main dancer, lead vocalist and rapper -- his power is the ability to heal anything. 🌩 Chen (Kim JongDae) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control thunder/lightning/electricity (As you can see, Xiumin and Chen were given stage names that sounded more Chinese so they would fit in better in EXO-M because they are the Korean members of the Chinese group) The Chinese members who left the group: 🐉 Kris was the leader of EXO-M he was a main rapper and vocalist -- his power was the ability to fly and his spirit animal was a dragon 💭 Luhan was a main vocalist and his power was telekinesis (The ability to control things with his mind) ⏰Tao (Z. Tao) was a lead rapper and vocalist and the martial artist of the group, so he did the flips and stunts in the group's routines. His power was the ability to control time.

I really love your reactions and comments. I like that you go back and replay so that I can look for what you’re commenting on. My first KPOP songs were Tempo and Love Shot. I was gobsmacked by the choreography and vocal harmony. Haven’t found another group I like as well, but EXO far surpasses any other groups. IMHO I read a comment about not catching the squeaky springs. I had to listen at least three times when I first heard this song to hear them!! Obviously I’m not very musical, but I’m grateful that I discovered EXO.

Actually, the one and only existing EXO relay dance is to this song (while singing live with handheld mics). As it is an encore stage performance for the fans, it's not like you will see the choreo full-on, but their personalities really shine through and it is fun to watch.
