EXO-L's have been load since the beginning. I was at Music Core for EXO-K when they promoted MAMA. Was standing very much towards the middle of the fans in the standing area, for the pre-recording. Could not hear the singing, barely the music, just the mix of fan chants and general screaming. Was not a fan at that point. Just wanted to try attending a music show. Really had no idea what I had in store, but it was absolutely an experience. ㅋㅋ. Still not a fan, but do love listening to their music. And think they are AMAZING live. Seeing them perform Drop that at the last SM Town concert i attended was one of the most memorable concert experience I've had ❤️

with EXO, breaking down the harmony is difficult. I watched interviews from like Shim Jaewon, Marz Music, and LDN Noise who composed for them, and EXO is used to filling the harmony part themselves as opposed from having a background singer. From what I've picked up as a fan for years, it could be just one member doing like 6 different layers or multiple members doing one thing each. With Tempo, I think they utilize most of the members because the sounds are quite distinct. Aside from the holy trinity Baekhyun, Chen, and D.O, Chanyeol often filled the bass part which was quite prominent here, and Suho also did some parts, and also Xiumin doing the falsetto parts! A fan on Weibo stripped down the layers of the song and it was actually a mind blowing piece of video to watch lol

Hi Jeff! Thankyou for your reaction and analysis for EXO's Tempo So 10:43 tbh at first many fans also find it weird with the robotic effect voice, but when a music producer youtuber and classical musician youtubers break down the analysis, the robotic voice actually help for the transition of the song. Basically SM try to make Tempo as a Bohemian Rhapsody's of Korea. To be honest there was an SNSD's song called I Got A Boy, who also a little bit like this (i mean literally like they make a song with 3 different songs put together), but Tempo has much more smoother transition than I Got A Boy. When i listen again to Tempo, it did feel smooth, i never think Tempo as 3 different songs put together. Thanks to that weird robotic transition :) 11:45 yaaaasss that's Lay and yes he's cute 13:19 the one who doing the base was Chanyeol. I recommend some Exo Ballads like Universe, Sing for you, Promise, and others. Exo are really good doing Ballads, and if you like vocals, I recommend one group called Btob, they have, in my opinion, the strongest vocal line in K-pop.

Those sort of answer & calls of "I can't believe, I can't believe, I can't believe.." parts at 5:57 are just sooo beautiful and genius. The third one by my bias D.O and it's soo soothing! Ironically even though Chen has the brightest tone and clear belts and arguably the highest range followed very closely by Baekhyun, he also has the widest range and can go the lowest out of the vocal line and he's been covering that part whilst D.O has been in the army and he KILLS it! I agree with you on the acapella part of songs. EXO did this type of acapella break down in Call Me Baby before the rap break which was pretty interesting as well. I’m not sure who sings what though. I wish I could help you on that. 😔 Edit: This acapella break down also happens in some of their b-sides, one I remember is Promise. In the bridge, the vocalists of EXO are layering their vocals on top of each other as well as saying different things. It’s a really emotional and good song.

fun fact: Suho said on a radio show that during this particular comeback a lot of the members were busy doing their solo activities so they couldn’t practice together as one team as much as they normally do. Kai had to teach Suho the Tempo dance privately bc Suho was busy with his musical. Chen and Baekhyun busy doing stuff for solo album, Sehun busy filming Busted, D.O busy filming drama, etc.

It fits the concept (connect to exo's storyline). They are the clones of normal exo here, and if you pay attention, they are all kinda glitching especially baekhyun before singing that part, so that's why they were using that voice effect.

Yes everything you watch from EXO will be part of their storyline. The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so the song is constantly changing tempos. I think the change in tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness within the storyline in the MV. However, if you look up the lyrics for the song you will see that they are talking to a girl and saying "Don't mess up my tempo" to her. If you noticed part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. So, you can see how there are duel meanings depending on how deeply you want to interpret the song and MV. On the surface the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on. Yep red again, because this whole setting is supposed to be the members under the Red Forces' control. Without going into too much detail -- there is so much going on in EXO's "Tempo" MV that it's hard to grasp it all -- what fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is the members of EXO are all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Beakhhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc.. Baekhyun is the one that is once again singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so again, we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside. You see Chanyeol being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the X-EXO members or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted. In the very last scene, that is Baekhyun with that cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline. And yes, that was Lay, but you won't see or hear him sing or dance in this MV because you watched the Korean version and at this time the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version of the" Tempo" MV. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to listen to the Mandarin version of "Tempo." Lay has a few lines in the Mandarin version, but he was not allowed to work with the other members, so all his parts were recorded separately and they had to be inserted into the song and MV He had to get special permission even to take part in this comeback and this is the closest we have gotten to seeing him back with the group since all these political issues started almost 4 years ago now. And so far, this is the one and only time you will see him in an EXO MV and song since 2016.
