I had pretty much the same journey as you : first I was shocked by their rapping skills, mannerisms, english pronunciation and thoughtful lyrics. Then they blew my mind with immaculate vocals and finally realized how high level their dancing techniques and synchronicity was. Like you mentioned, the next question was "Now can they replicate all that while performing live on stage ?" A couple of months later I found myself in the pit just a few feets away from them and witnessed greatness ! The amount of energy, charisma and stamina displayed was unbelievable to the point that my brain kind of disconnected in the last third of the show. 🤪 They literally are so overwhelmingly good that I got high on life !! Shout out to my Alphaz that were there in Paris. 🤍 We gave it our all, I’m proud of us and everybody involved in the making of The First Howl ! 🐺👽♾️

Agreed 100% most rappers don't write their own rhymes, unless it's a battle, I don't hold that against rappers. Lauryn Hill is a big influence for Cocona which is almost obvious 😅. Her Swag and skills are Lauryn Hill tier. When you get to Move 1, which is how they were introduced to the world, you'll see they could easily be a top tier dance crew that can also rap and sing.. My daughter and I saw them live in ATL and they are amazing, mics are definitely on.. They're going to kill it at Coachella. I think they are 1 BIG feature away from really blowing up.

You should check out their 'Howling' MV next. I firmly believe this is their magnum opus thus far. I have never seen an mv like this before. The song itself is also a perfect introduction to both the groups concept and their identity as a hip hop + R&B group. To top it all off, the choreography is completely on theme for them without sacrificing their usual high level of complexity. It's the total package.

As someone who saw them live in LA for their first world tour ill say this...The mics are ON, the dancing is on point, the vocals are clear and they perform they asses off! Chisa did Nothing By Whitney and made it her own, didnt try to out do Whitney (because you cant). The rappers did their cyphers and the swag and confidence was A1, and the vocal line did Say my name! XG has been doing live shows since they released their first song. Initially they were lip syncing but now they are singing live and dancing hard and still killing it. The only thing I miss from their shows to say they are some of the best live performers ever is props and stage theatrics. I notice they are starting to include props so who knows where they'll go with more success. Don't watch the documentary series on how they formed or you will be fully invested. Watching that doc makes it feel like they are your children and now you have to see them succeed.

You are not ready for the live stages. What you saw was a dance practice for their live stage. They do use a back track, but they use the back track to add in ad libs and flourish to the live performances and 90% of their live is actually them singing and rapping. The vocal sub team is on another level live since 95% of their performances is just them doing it raw, again using back tracks to do flourishes, effects and adlibs. Chisa, Hinata and Juria does a rendition of Losing You and Say My Name that just takes you back to another time. They also do a rendition of Justin Bieber's song that might break your cognitive abilities.

Producers Jakops (Simon) and Chancellor are tops and work with producers in Atlanta and LA if you watch their documentary Xtra Xtra. We are the same age so I know what you mean. I grew up with Run DMC, LL Cool J, NWA, Public Enemy, Biggie, Tupac, KRS-One, etc and of course all the R&B like New Edition, Bel Biv DeVoe, Boyz 2 Men, Brian McKnight and so on and so forth...it feels weird to like XG so much but it's hitting all the right notes(pun intended) and it just sounds right. Oh they're the same live. Actually they can dance harder than this, because these choreos were made with live singing in mind so they have to tone it down to be able to sing good. But you can find shorts/tiktoks of them dancing, like real next level dancing.
