As someone who spent most of his teens on a skateboard, I absolutely can't with the lack of a tail. Having always relied heavily on kickturns, the lack of a tail feels like a huge handicap. Against all advice, I ordered a thinner maple large cruiser from a reputable company. Fingers crossed that the experience is good. (Compared to cruising on a traditional skateboard, it can only feel good I suppose.)

I have two double drop down boards, one from Landyachtz and one from Pantheon. I can agree they turn a little wider, but with slightly smaller wheels you can correct for some of that. The double drop does make it easier to push and get speed. I guess I choose my board based on if I just want have fun and ride the terrain or if I want get somewhere fast and get the choir done, like shopping. Glad you highly emphasized not to buy chrap. Just forces you spend the money you could have on a nice board upgrading the crap and still left with a so so deck and trucks.

Oh my god you are way more helpful than the kids that were at the skate shop I went to today! I assumed it was weird that my drop through deck looked weird... Turns out it is a drop down deck! Honestly you’re going to have to spend a bit to get a good board that’ll last. Don’t get one from Amazon, go in zumiez website or the store (mostly in malls) and buy a board. Usually longboards are 200 and up, but you can get some for 150 and you won’t see them more than $250
@Andyhaucqog13 жыл бұрын
Sector 9 is a decent mid tier board. The zumiez brand boards(mercer) are ok but i heard they don't last long. But that said my mercer seems to work fine but seem to flex more than other brands

Just to highlight, lower boards are easier to push, because after you step on the ground to push with your foot, to step back up on the board, there's less of a distance. If you do that motion a million times on a high board, it feels like you're doing lunges every time you push.

@ScutuRC Жыл бұрын
9:20 - something I don't get about those drop-through boards where the tracks are going through the board to lower the board, but then the board is lifted up in the middle due to their construction - which kills the point of lowering the board. Just look at it from a side... Anyways.. as a beginner, I just got a Landyachtz STRATUS 46 SPECTRUM from a garage sale almost free. Just swapped the bearings, clean it up, inspect all the parts and it runs like new!!! Seeing your favourite board at the end, tell me more about those wheels, are they really that good over the standard wheels???

Fully painted boards are stronger than a typical blank. An elastic coating (like paint) can help reinforce the outer plies and edges to prevent chipping and splintering. So simply by adding the paint the board BECOMES higher quality.

Double Drops are not for downhill, they're more for long distance cruising. That's where they shine because the deck sits very low to ground making them very easy to push. Here's a Pantheon Trip. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqSVh6Jrm7SBg7s

Landyachtz is solid. I have a double drop with a concave deck that I really like and is fast. I upgraded the wheels from the ones the shop had on it and it's even better.
@ShinShinoke4 жыл бұрын
Depends what you want. The 33" drop cat would make an awesome, turny cruiser commuter board. The drop hammer will sit higher and be less turny, Battle axe has a less useful shape. I'd get the 33 inch drop cat personally. If going larger I'd get a Switchblade which can handle more than all of those - can do downhill and freeride but also cruise. The drop cat is the easiest pusher followed by the Switchblade. The Switchblade should be made in Canada rather than China and is a higher category and quality board. The drop cat in your picture - the 2019 version (yellow) has a bit more standing platform than the 2020 (white) but has poorer Gen 5 Bear trucks rather than Gen 6. If you can get Gen 6 on the 2019 deck that's cool. Otherwise I'd get the 2020 board.
@ShinShinoke4 жыл бұрын
Just to add for freestyle specifically you may be best off with a Drop Hammer then out of those choices. The Switchblade is for freeride downhill or cruising. The Drop Cat for commuting, cruising and a bit of freeride/hills. Or get a dancer for freestyle. That will be a better fit than any of those including the drop carve. Zenit make awesome boards, I'd check them out. Made in Canada If I were in North America I'd get a Zenit for sure
