Cut-Rate Commander - Episode 50 - Featuring Ognis, the Dragons Lash from Streets of New Capenna #MTG #mtgCapenna #edh #commander
The right hand (or claw) of Ziatora is taking some time off from cracking skulls for her boss on the Streets of New Capenna and is joining us to lead a deck of her own, where she'll be leading a band of fast and furious fliers in a all attack against our opponents.
In this build, we'll be aiming to flood the skies with hasty fliers to continually crash into our opponents while sailing over their blockers - continually generating treasure alongside Ognis to help us cast even more fast fliers or pump that mana into mana sinks build into our flier to have them even harder. Lucky, Jund has not shortage of phoenix's, dragons, and even the odd vampire or 2 that fit the bill - giving us a army of high flying, fast attacking creatures that - alongside our offensive power boosts - should have no issue tearing our opponents to shreds before they can even react.

i haven't watched the whole video but im expecting tuktuk rubblefort here. peak budget haste enabler. edit: tuktuk rubblefort is not needed with this many hasty creatures. didn't think of phoenixes having this much synergy with ognis. as always, you make really tuned decks. well done.

This reminds me of one of my favorite cards that I played when I first started playing Magic. Viashino Sandscout from 10th Edition. I love Atarka, but she's getting dismantled for this. This reminds me so heavily of what I wanted to do when I was younger and first getting into Magic. Swing fast, Ramp, and Dragons. Thank you for this video.

A spicy upgrade that's worth almost $30 is the Amulet of Vigor. It lets those treasures come in untapped!

True - you can do some crazy stuff with those treasures if the come in untapped - like get infinite combat phases with Hellkite Charger or effectively double the mana you can pump into any firebreathing effect. Good Suggestion!

Mono-Red has lots of good hasty bodies for Ognis to use, so it should be a fine build! Best of luck!

Got this one on the table Friday; didn't win the game, but scared the table with the very consistent presence of large scarey critters and the treasures to fuel them with. I did retheme the build a bit in name using the old Rush album 2112 as an inspiration - Ognis, Lash of Syrinx. Another top build good sir; seems you just don't make bad decks at all.

@@GrazzetMTG for now it is going to have some burn damage extra turns and one turn creature stealing giving haste and attacking for the treasure with the opponents creatures

Gosh, another heavy Dragon build; could make a whole evening of Dragon goodness between the GoGo Grazet Dragon build from a few weeks back and this one

I like dragons as much as the next person but this wasn't intentional - it just so happens that there are lot of hasty dragons that fir the build! Not that that's a bad thing, as its always cools to see these flying lizards take over the game!

@@GrazzetMTG I was slowly working on a Phoenix deck, but now with this build, may scrap that idea, go with this and then flavor accordingly as one of the Phoenix names is awfully close (Syrix) to a classic Rush name - Syrinx. I can imagine the returning priests in that tale could be packing hasty dragons in addition to a small army of phoenixes to wreck a firey vengeance.

I feel like if you are going deep on dragons you need some support like crucible of fire and sarkhan unsealing. Olivia bride is nice for bringing back fatties with haste. Mob rule is spicy with the sac outlets and haste. Mirage phalanx is interesting paired with dragons. Some non-haste dragons are pretty good at getting your haste through or bumping that damage like the new wrathful red dragon creates a great dilemma for them to even block you.

Good suggestions! I particularly like Olivia, Crimson Bride as some easy to enable reanimation while being a hasty flier herself, and Mob Rule for being quite a potent finisher!

@@GrazzetMTG I looked a little harder and I think Zagras Thief of Heartbeats (Ognis is a warrior) and Majestic Myriarch are very cool includes.

@@regaleagle6533 Zagras made the shortlist but got cut due to the build having a few too many 6 drops and Majestic Myriarch is nice but requires some setup. I can still see both of them be slotted in however by making a few, minor adjustments.

He is good but the issue is that because of just how "all in" the deck in, we'll rarely have blockers up to protect him, making him less good in this build in my opinion.

Welp, time to go make a Dominic Toretto alter before we go fast AF, boi. Or at least, give this bad boy a test drive. Amazing job as always. As for the vote, I say - diversity for the win. No need to leave a sweet deck behind just because WotC is too damn fast to care. Day 286 of waiting for the face reveal. What are your thoughts on the Fast and Furious series?

Glad you enjoyed the build and thanks for the support as usual! A Dominic Toretto Alter for Ognis would be hilarious, but we would have to add some vehicles to the build to make it more on theme! Regarding the Fast and Furious Franchise - I remembers watching maybe the first 2 or 3 but lost track after that. They look like fun action movies but really jumped the shark from the "somewhat" realistic racing movies they started off as. Good if you want to turn your brain off and watch 'splosons.

I like Captain Lannery Storm but her $5 price tag and lack of evasion made her sit out this build. She would make a good addition if we had more ways to grant evasion, but in this case we went with naturally evasive creatures so this particular build is not a great fit for her since she will not usually be able to attack safely(in my opinion at least).

Ognis! Such a great precedent for upcoming commanders that care about specific keyword abilities that isn't named "flying". Speaking of flying, great choice on the deck theme. It makes sense to get in for damage and have a good chance of your haste/flying creatures do it again and again. I'll try that build one day for certain. Edit: Originally I had this as a Warp World build but I sort of backed off from that idea mainly because I was spreading myself thin. Treasures, Payoffs, and Haste Tribal it is bay-beeee. Edit-Edit: Elemental Mastery, yes or no? Seems pretty deece no matter the build.

Glad you enjoyed the build! Elemental Mastery is a great addition to flood the board with extra bodies to get us extra treasures! It runs the rick of getting 2 for 1'd but if it sticks we can get a whole lot of ramp even if it only goes off once!
