Sadly a lot of gamers these days have very short attention spans. They've become accustomed to fast paced rush to the icon type of games where you need to be doing something every 3 seconds so when something like Red Dead 2 shows up that wants people to slow down and really immerse in the world they complain. Obviously at the same time the game itself isn't to everyone's tastes and some people just don't care for slower paced games but I think a lot more people would actually enjoy it if they just let themselves sink in and go with the slower feel the game is going for rather than just wishing it was like so many other games out there.

I got into a 30 minute fight with the law in Valentine. By the time it was over Arthur was caked in mud and blood and the town looked like a warzone . Corpses everywhere, buildings charred and blackend, and debris everywhere from the fight. It was fantastic!

I do feel RDR2 suffers as a game tho. Like, RDR2 feels like it was so focused on being detailed that it forgot it had to be a game. Like, you have missions that are extremely scripted and linear that they are less open than Call of Duty levels. So despite being an open world game, you often have very little freedom or agency in missions. You have gunplay that hasn't been improved since GTA4 in 2008. You have movement that is frustrating and annoying. Plus, many of the cool details and features never have cool gameplay applications. For example, in RDR2, many towns have Day/night cycles with towns being more empty on Sundays due to everyone going to church. But in RDR2, you can't ever plan missions or activities to take advantage of them. Like, this is something even Ubisoft had since 2012. It's hard to see RDR2 as a masterpiece or the next gen experience when it's basically a 2010 Rockstar game polished to look better but not play better. RDR2 is a movie that begrudgingly has to be a game.

Two character interaction details I noticed that I’ve never seen before in a video game. When you complete a mission for someone in your camp it doesn’t tell you to find them to complete the mission, but if they just happen to spot you in camp they actually walk to you to thank you. When you have the option to play a game with someone it doesn’t just drop into it but the characters will have a little conversation and then they will ask if you want to play. This happened when I played dominoes with the black girl in camp. It seemed so much more natural.

Finished game but there are still three speparate endings to play for. My first playthru I got to the top of a mountain and some Spanish explorer offered to sdell me a map. All I wanted was his horse but I gave him the $$ for the map to make sure I got it then put two shotgun slugs thru his Gizzards as he started to ride off. Looted him to get my money back plus his stuff, tossed him off a cliff and rode my new horse for the rest of the game [[A Nokoma, Nokita-Nosomethin' or other of the Race class.]]

Was blown away with this game, and it’s hands down the best I’ve ever played. When I first got out of Chapter 1 and got into Chapter 2 in my first run, I saved it and called it a night. The second time I got on the game and started at Chapter 2 where the map was now open to roam, I played for 32 hours straight and only took breaks to use the bathroom, eat, and take a shower. By the time I was done with that 32 hour run, I did maybe 3 or 4 story missions and mostly explored and after I slept for about 10 hours, and then woke up, I got right back on it. I’m ashamed to admit that, but that’s how blown away I was with this game.

You're not alone, I think games gets too overshadowed sometimes because of it, for example Xenoblade 1 is different to Xenoblade 2 in gameplay and people sometimes see the first one as superior while the second only borrows a few things from Xenoblade 1, I can enjoy both games as their own thing without comparing it to eachother, that's how my time playing those two are more enjoyable if i don't think about it

Okay I'm seriously getting a little triggered seeing everyone compare this game to BotW. Honestly, they are two COMPLETELY different games, they have basically nothing in common (except both being third person and open world games) and they are both wildly different in plot, gameplay and setting. Breath of the Wild is an over-the-top fantasy game where you use melee weapons and magical runes to fight monsters and clear dungeons. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a western game that focuses heavily on realism where you use guns to shoot people and commit crimes. Like who in their right mind would even try comparing those two games? They are two completely separate things!

Thank you! Even worse, I've seen people comparing it to God of War, and saying either RDR2 is better because it's so much vaster of GoW is better because its cinematic beauty. Like wtf, those games cannot be compared like that, and neither can BotW and RDR2. If there's a game that we compare it with it's Assassin's Creed Odyssey, that one is an actually similar type (while not as good as RDR2)

Dude, I made that comparison before I even read/listened to other peoples opinions about Red Dead 2 at all. I actually have played 40 hours already of red dead, and when my living room is taken up I go to the master bedroom to play Breath Of The Wild on my Wii U. It scratches a VERY similar itch as far as exploration and being wowed and in awe of a MASSIVE world but also taking in the little things all around you. The discovery/reward feels the same in these two games to me. Looking at something from afar and telling yourself "I'm gonna go there because I can, and I want to see what's over there" only to be distracted 5 times and forgetting what you set out to do in the first place. That's me at least. Idk about others.

pty80 they're legitimate complaints to people though. It's a cool touch if you're into that a sense of "realism" but not everyone is. Some people just want to see the story through not go through all the tiny details they had to add in.

@@GG_Nowa I agree, "objective criticism" does not exist, because games are art, and art isn't mathematics and can therefore not be proven or objectified. In my opinion, this game and many other modern games have way too many animations, slowing the gameplay down too much. I don't need to see my character pick something up slowly, or realistically looting someones body, sure it is impressive, but in the ned it is just frustrating and slows the game down too much. All these little animations add up, into a slow, badly paced and frustrating experience for me. The fact that you can't walk at camp or in some buildings is also a stupid decision, in my opinion obviously. RDR 2 could have been a masterpiece, but too many stupid decisions, too slow pacing and a mediocre story ensured it didn't happen.

Hey mate ( partner ? ), love your passion on this review. Could ramble on for hours about how amazing this game is. One little example for me was when I was in Valentine. I'd just got off my horse and pressed the button to pat her. At that exact moment , a stranger walked past and said " Howdy" and Arthur patted the horse and said " good girl ". The stranger got pissed off and angrily said "IT'S MISTER ! ". That moment epitomised the sheer brilliance of this game.

If your out and away from your camp for long periods, sometimes a member of your camp will come find you and ask if you want to come back to camp. I loved this touch! No travel time just BAM! You are back at camp

I'm so happy to find another person that adores Octopath, it's so great when you find people that have diverse tastes in games, like I assume you enjoy Nintendo games but you also enjoy these kinda games too! What I like the most about the Red Dead Redemption is. Most of other games sucks when they make a second game but Red Dead Redemption just did something incredible they made us love their new character which was Arthur Morgan for a lot of reasons one of them is the way he talks the way he walks the way he interacts with people the things he says how manly he is and how faithful and how loyal and the way he helps everyone at the end and what I like the most is that he is a good bad man.

Love this review! I also had Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time on the top of my list before playing this. Not only did RDR2 do the impossible by beating BOTW, but RDR2 annihilated Zelda. I don’t think this game will be topped, unless BOTW 2 or RDR3 can prove me wrong

At 13:44 and onwards could have been an easy path for you but you made it harder for yourself. There was a closer trapper to you than the one near Strawberry. It's the one closer to Emerald ranch, it's north of the ranch plus there's a Fence shop where you can sell your gold bars. Could of saved you 40 minutes of gameplay. But that's the magic of this game.

Right when this game came out I got injured and had to take 2 monhts medical leave from work. Needless to say,I had a lot of free time. It was summer and I had no idea what to do with my time. So I bought myself a ps4 and rdd2. What followed was an insane amount of playing. I would wake up,eat breakfast and start playing. I would play for 12,13 sometimes 15 hours straight. I've never expirnced anything like it before. No doubt,the best game I ever played. I was not a gamer before that and when my feet got better I went back to work,sold my ps4 and never played a video game seriously since than.

This game is so much fun. Unfortunately, I ran into a game-breaking Bug/Glitch. During my many hours playing chapter 2, the characters Abigail, John, Jack, and Sadie were missing from the camp. Upon realizing this, I looked up the Bug/Glitch and had to restart my game. John was supposed to give me a missable mission in that chapter. But he wasn't there. Warning! Check your camp!
