Hey I just want to say THANK YOU for making an honest vlog about potty training. Most of these vids edit out the gritty parts where Mom is about to break down and the kiddo is regressing and I just really want to thank you for keeping those parts in. I am on day three of training my 27 month old girl and although I was prepared to feel discouraged up until the end of day three (which has yet to come) I am STILL struggling with the rate of improvement (or lack of consistent upward progress). Seeing a mom who has her stuff together and is doing all the 'right' things also struggle gives me hope and confidence that we will get this. Would love to see an update on how she's doing today so I subscribed and look forward to checking out more of your stuff. Thanks again!

Hi and thank you! I'm so happy my video helped you. It's seriously the most challenging thing I've gone through as a mother! My daughter is still struggling to tell me when she needs to go so we still have accidents here and there. The best thing to do is breathe and just do you your best. I have friends who's kids took a week and have had zero issues. This is not the case for everyone so don't stress!! Thanks for subscribing. I've taken a break from youtube but I'll be back very soon. In the mean time keep in touch with me on Instagram @alexsmccormick xoxo

Thank you SO much for posting this. My son has known when he has to pee since he was like 18 months old but he HATES sitting on the potty which, when watching all these other videos which are so unrealistically positive, was very frustrating because there's just no comparable experience I've seen. I've been at a loss because I'm pretty sure at this point he knows exactly what the drill is but he just doesn't want to do it. He was the same with walking. Literally just did it one day because he decided he wanted to but wouldn't let me coax him at all before that point. At any rate, I'm fixing to take a legit week off to see if we can get to the bottom (hah) of it and your tips and experience were very helpful and validating.

Actually, I had a conversation with multiple pediatricians about this misconception that it gets harder over the age of two and a half. My daughter was 3 and a half when she was potty trained and we did it in two weeks where the first two days were fun the third day she lost all interest but then picked it up and is accident free. I don't understand the need for people to potty train their kid at an early age no matter what, especially when they are not ready. Mine wasn't, she couldn't care less about potty training and all you need is patience. What I am trying to convey to all moms out there: It is not a competition, no one's kid is better or worse for being potty trained at a certain age and it is hard and takes some time regardless of age. Some kids are easy, some kids are having a harder time to feel what's going on, or are too distracted (like mine was) to notice or care that they need to go to the bathroom. I am happy we passed that hurdle and I am sure your kid will too!! ❤❤❤

THANK YOU! For an honest and vulnerable telling of how potty training is going. I'm on DAY FIVE and about to give up. All the books and KZbin channels make it seem like it should be done in 3 - 4 days so I'm feeling like a pretty big failure. Hi! Ok so it’s been 2 years & we have only just got to a place where I fully trust her. Every child is different but my daughter needed constant reminding. Lots of accidents for about 6 months-1 year but we also had really good days too. Just keep prompting & when they have an accident just reinforce where pee & pool was supposed to go! Be patient. It’ll be ok eventually 😚❤️

We're on day two and opting for pants today because his dad was uncomfortable with our son being naked all day lol he's doing really well with only 1 accident this morning in his pants. I'm hoping that I can get him to poop on the toilet today because yesterday he held it until it wasn't a choice anymore 😅 our son tried holding pee and didn't want to sit and relax so I gave him a warm cup of water with a couple foam sea creatures and he plays in it. That helped a lot.

I remember when my niece was potty training, my sister had to engage her in a book or something to distract her so her muscles would relax and she could pee. But 5 days of trapped in the house with a pantless child would make me drink, too. ;-)

One thing you should consider trying with your next baby, if you have another, is pottying from a younger age. I started putting my daughter on the potty at 5 months old (when she could sit up with only a little bit of assistance) & slowly worked up to putting her on every hour. Because she was already used to using a potty/toilet, she never had to go through being scared to pee/poo when it came time to switch her to underwear. She would pee on command; every time she peed I made a "pssssss" sound and even now at 2 years old it makes her pee instantly if she isn't going right away and I know she needs to. She wore cloth diapers, and even though those allowed her to feel wet (unlike disposable diapers) she didn't seem to care. We put normal 2T underwear (not training pants) on her at 22 months & it somehow clicked in her brain immediately that she couldn't pee in them and had to use the potty. She is now about to turn 2 and has had maybe 10 accidents, only a few of them have been full blown messes. If you work from home then it's something to consider for sure. Pottying a young baby even just 5 times a day gets them used to the whole thing and really prepares them for actual toddler potty training. :)

I’m just nervous that I’ll do something to confuse her or to mess it up or make it harder.. idk why. I’m going to finish this book in the next day or two and I plan to start next week. Any tips before hand? Also god I wish I could have that glass of wine, I’m 7mo pregnant with my second child 😂💀

I just want to share our potty training journey here, cause I think the more different experiences are out there the less we all have to freak out. So we started potty training with 19 1/2 months and my daughter was already telling me when she needs to poop for a good 5 months but was still using diapers all of the time. I wanted to get the potty training in a good path before she starts kindergarden in 3months and I read the oh crap book on day 3 of the training process. We started with her being naked at home and she would tell me that she need to poop but always getting up to soon and pooping on the floor. Also with pee, she would be really hard to keep on the potty, than get up and pee right next to the potty 2 seconds after. Also she normally pooped and peed standing up since she can stand up, so the sitting down was new for her. Our kindergarden was fully compliant with our plans so that was a pro. Still for 2 weeks I carried the potty around with us everywhere, she would always tell me the moment she needed to go and then immidiately pee on the floor, I got in 2weeks no full pee or poo in the potty and I thought a lot about quitting but also was sure that she is ready and totally capable so I stayed on track no matter what. Finally after 14 days with only accidents now we had 3days with just two accidents in total. She says that she needs to go and sits down and does it, we dance and we clean the potty and now we're starting the pants! So potty training is not necessarily done in 3days but that does not mean anything bad about your parenting or your kids abilities!

I'm sure your daughter is trained by now, but just in case someone needs this information: My kiddo got it on day 4. Even though I didn't give them any sweets, I let them turn the restroom light on and off ( they loved that). I also let them enjoy washing their hands ( take as much time as you want). This made it fun and my child was actively telling me when it was time. Prizes don't have to mean sweets and can be any activity the kiddo likes.

I was told that the longer I waited to stop breastfeeding, the harder it would be. It was not true. My son was two years and four months when I stopped breastfeeding and he didn't even notice. The trick was to not breastfeed for emotional reasons and slowly cut on breastfeeding sessions. I wonder if it is similar with potty training. Maybe the trick is to just not have a timetable, leave emotions out of the process and very slowly get him acquainted with potty stuff and actions and not go ahead unless each step is mastered and feels natural. I heard if you rush the process they can have digestive issues later on. I'd like to know how it is going on!

What I love about this is it’s definitely not a quick 3-4 day process, I think even moms that boast it.. ok they’re potty training meaning you’re boasting you can put their pants on after 3 days and winter clothes and head out the door... I mean NO WAYY. You need another week commitment to work out training with logistics involved. Oh girl potty training ... I wanted to rip my hair out....eat all the chocolate. Etc. I finally just gave up and he decided on his own when he turned 3. He is starting to regress a little after about 3 months in. Then there's the joy of poop in the potty not on the floor. And working on the night training. And the first times out in public in undies. I swear we should be gifted a weekly basket of goodies to get through this!! Just know you are not alone , it is so tough but my motto is they won't be in diapers in high school so it'll eventually click. Best of luck!

@@jamesdanquah2471 hes potty trained now but sometimes we still have to initiate him going pee when it’s been a couple hours. He learned he can hold it while hes playing. If we limit liquids toward bedtime he will sleep through the night. If not, we take him to pee once then he goes back to sleep

@@jamesdanquah2471 my son didnt initiate until weeks-months and on and off we started. Your son is probably still isnt understanding that the pee goes INTO the bowl. He might be scared still. My son did that mostly because he wanted to see the pee come out. Lol i just told him to sit while the pee was coming out when he was standing. Maybe u can physically sit him down gently when he does that

This video could not have come at a better time! It is 1am on day 3 of potty training my son who is 19.5 months. I am following a similar method to Oh Crap, it’s called Toilet Training without Tantrums. It does not guarantee 3 days but it does have the same naked approach and taking the diapers away and thinks 18 to 24 months is the best window. My son goes to daycare but I am not working now so I started on Saturday and kept him out of daycare on Monday just to see how he would do, but now I am not sure how to proceed. A few days before we started I put him on the toilet in the morning and he pooped and peed as the morning time after he awakens he always poops. And maybe one other morning before we started I put him on the potty chair and he peed. But he was half asleep and I believe it just happened. So on Day 1 he was just peeing everywhere. And pooped his pants. Most of the time he would be really near me and would the pee. He would not sit on the potty chair so I started putting him on the toilet and he would sing and later whine and I would take him off. Day 2 was mostly the same, he would not sit on the potty so I sat him on the toilet, he would whine and I would take him off. By the end of day 2, I noticed that he ran to the potty chair after he was already wet. That gave me hope. Day 3, he sat on the potty chair more because I gave him toys to play with and at times I sat next to him (the book I read said no toys, books, rewards, etc etc). When we went to sit on the big toilet he would put his seat on the toilet and then turn around and run, lol. I would sit him on toilet for 10 minutes with the faucet running (this time with his pacifier) but nothing. Mid day I caught him release a little pee and then whine and it seems that he knew he had to Pee but couldn’t get his body and brain to move him to where he needed fast enough. Most of the day, he would run to me whining after he wet himself. End of day 3, I am sitting on the floor with him as he is sitting on the potty chair (totally against what the book says do) as we play a game of drinking water. After a while, a small amount of pee goes in to the potty and he stands up immediately and I had to sit him down and tell him it’s okay. So we go and dump the pee in the big toilet and he flushes (which is all he really wants to do) and then we go back to potty and I could tell he had to pee and I knew his bladder was still full but he just was afraid. So again he is sitting and as soon as the pee comes he stands up, I sit him down and he pees a little on the potty. Latter on when I wasn’t looking he pees all on the floor. Later at bath time, I sit him on the potty as I run his water, he starts to pee, freaks out and gets up and I have to sit him down so he can finish. My son is similar to your daughter. I am not sure if I should keep going (keep him out of daycare for a few more days) or just return him to daycare where they put him on the toilet but he really hasn’t been going and also return him to diapers at daycare but keep him naked at home. This seem so inconsistent so I’m torn. I feel like this may take a while. My husband is supporting me from a distance as he still think it’s too young to potty train and I just need to “give him a break”. FYI...the book I am reading was recommended by my pediatrician. She didn’t say I had to start potty training before 24 months, but she said it would be easy. Any advice? I’m torn.

Joy Smith omg joy I completely understand your frustration, it is so confusing. Please don’t quit as you’ve come this far and it sounds like he knows where his pee should go but, like Kaia, is scared to release. Here’s a link to Jen from Oh Crap’s online course. It will help you! Jen saved me from quitting & gave me hope!! potty-training-solutions.teachable.com/courses/enrolled/322221?affcode=152063_-nrgkzog Hang in there mama 😘❤️

Alexandra McCormick Thank you! I was so torn as what to do this morning, he pooped in the potty chair (while I was also sitting on the toilet). I decided to send him to daycare, I put a diaper on him and then he pees in the diaper and I am sure he was unaware as he didn’t even respond or anything. I then decided I was going to keep him home another day, but I sent him to daycare because I was becoming anxious and I think I need a break. I will talk to his teachers when I pick him up and decide on a plan because I want to do everything to help him learn but also stay sane, lol. He will go back to being naked when he gets home. I am not sure if I should send him to daycare in underwear or pull-ups, since I feel like this may take some time. How is Kaia doing?

Joy Smith Kaia is getting there. She accidents a couple of times here and there but we are not putting pull ups on her unless it’s nap time. I think it’s confusing to do both but I also understand your need to stay sane! What I found helpful with Jen is that it’s sort like a what to do after you’ve read the book and tried everything! I’m right here with you girl. You’re doing great xxx

Alexandra McCormick That’s great! I hope she continues to make progress. I don’t want to do pull ups either. I just need to come up with a plan with my daycare. I also started this process thinking it was going to be easier since he is younger than average so I kind of got the ball rolling without a plan. I mentioned to the daycare that I was ready for potty training so they starting putting him on the toilet, but I didn’t realize that it would require removing the diapers all together until I read the book. So daycare had been putting him on the toilet and still putting him in diapers for about a week before I started training at home. I think he gets it now that I took the diaper away. I know this may take weeks so I need to have a plan that will incorporate daycare because I can not stay home with home for weeks until he gets it. But I am not quitting!!! and I do believe he can do it and that he is “ready” even though I didn’t start this process based on any readiness signs. I don’t want to fall for the “maybe he’s not ready yet” just because it may be challenging and then quit only to start over months later and then it be harder. This reminds me of breastfeeding, extremely hard in the beginning to the point I almost quit but I just took it day by day and it got easier with time. Thank you for listening to me and the advice as I was feeling absolutely alone and not knowing what to do and searching google is not helping because there is so many mix opinions.

I’m watching this after day three of the oh crap potty method, and it was soooo tiring. I totally felt like we were worse off than day one. My sweet tempered little boy just stood next to the potty and screamed at the top of his lungs while peeing on the floor. That was my whole day. I tried to be fairly hands off since he’s demonstrated that he understands what to do, but that seems to have backfired... and I can’t have wine because I’m pregnant 😩.
