I just watched this on advice from another member in the Keystone RV Forum. I enjoyed every moment of it and it was exactly what I needed to learn. All topped off with one of my favorite cold beverages. Nicely done, great camera work, good audio level, no lectures, just the facts man. Well done sir. Beautiful Beagle helper.

I was dumping my black tank for what I thought would be the last time before I put November X-Ray (Our Springdale trailer) into hibernation for the long, long winter. I could not hear the black tank sani flush working. It was nice to find this video. I am always reluctant to take my rig to the dealer and only do that as a last resort. I was very confident that I could fix the issue after seeing what you did with yours, Professor Ray. Turns out I worried for nothing. When I got NXR home and hooked up a garden hose everything seemed to be working. Gremlins in the system maybe. Or maybe I forgot to turn on the hose...

Thank you! Have always wondered what is on the other end of that hose hook-up. I think yours is the only video of this on KZbin! I’ve watched all of them.

I’ve often wondered about mine. I think it’s a good idea to ID the location of that check valve because if it did crack as you defined, I’d be sitting on the side of the trailer as I usually do while putting the rig to bed and listening to the “spraying” sound I’m accustomed to hearing. In reality, I could be flooding the trailer somewhere!
@slimbeaux7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ray. Very straight forward and to the point. When I get home tonight I think I will check underneath my bathroom sink and see if my system is as well laid out as yours. I remember the diagram so I know it's the same. In Theory.

You are fearless! My new rig has had the same problem but I've been leery to try what you just did! After watching your video I'm a bit more apt to give it a shot. I'll turn the water on full and can hear it doing something but never do I see it leaving the sewer hose. I'm thinking.....where in the hell is it going? So I shut it down and forget it. Thanks for your courage!

My old travel trailer had one in the top of the black tank that spun when under pressure. Once I hooked it up straight to the hose bib at the campground and 70 psi of water pressure went into the tank. It ended up blowing the spinning head off into the tank. The head was later retrieved by the RV technician.

your tank flush sprayer failed because it was installed too near the bottom of the tank, not in its top. Note the flange says "TOP" on its face which is facing horizontally to the street side in your installation. I would expect this maintenence to become routine at best and to require component replacement eventually. much better idea for this to be installed vertically from the top down but relocating it now would require patching a sizable hole in your tank. the vertical portion of the backflow-preventer check-valve (black o-ring) is not spring-loaded. it prevents back flow but is dependent on gravity to close. (this is why you had to shake it at 4:00) I mention this because it's of vital importance that it be oriented vertically (plumb) to prevent sewage from flowing back into a public/potable water supply.
@LoveYourRV7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. Lasted 6 years of full-time use, so not too bad, I'll leave it there.
@LoveYourRV7 жыл бұрын
The valve is working fine, It actually has two valves, one vertical gravity, and one horizontal spring loaded, no way water is getting back out that thing.
@armstronglance3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video. My black tank flush is plugged up. Must be the jet piece inside the tank, the part that was plugged up on your tank. Unfortunately I have a trailer with a 4 seasons sealed underbelly which you have to tear apart to get to the black tank inside. It's quite an ordeal to open up the underbelly and get it sealed back together.

When I purchased my 2008 Airstream Classic 25fb in 2013 the first time I used the black tank flush water came out the bottom of the trailer. I checked the one way valve and it was cracked. Rather than get another valve I just put in an elbow. 4 years later my flush valve is clogged up. It spays a little. Mine isn't as easy to get at. I'll have to cut an access hatch in the galvanized black tank cover to remove it. Figured while I have access panels cut I'll have the flush valve replaced as well as the black and gray tank dump valves and have a SeeLevel monitor system installed, replacing the Micropulse system which has screw in sensors. I have to recalibrate the system every year and its not all that accurate.

Our black tank flusher on the Cougar isn't working either. My check valve is not clear plastic like yours; it's solid black so I can't see what its doing. Maybe I can look at the lines just to see if there is water getting as far as the tank. Does you flusher still work today?

I love these how to videos! I have watched a lot of your stuff. I am going to try the CELLULAR SIGNAL BOOSTER mod. How do determine where it is safe to drill through your roof?
@LoveYourRV7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I try my best to guess what's under the roof then use a foot or longer 1/8th-inch drill bit first very slowly and pierce the roof board, then push on it and see if it hits anything. If not I can continue on thru the ceiling and see where if it comes out where I thought. From that point, I can slowly widen the holes with larger bits. To pull wire though I tape it to the long bit then feed it through. As seen in this install video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gma5npiFgsynoqcm28s

I wonder if it pays to run some CLR through the flush hose periodically?
@LoveYourRV7 жыл бұрын
Might be an idea as the stuff was likely hard water deposits. I'm sure boondocking so much in hard waer areas doesn't help as when at dump stations I don't like to hold up the line flushing the tank.

what you call a check valve is a VACUUM BREAKER---this prevents pull water back from the black tank into the water supply hose . An attempt to pull back into the water line will result in only air being pulled back
