Erlang and Sun Wukong are actually rival and great friends. They "get" each other "implicitly" Erlang is Jade Emperor's nephew and his mother is Jade Emperor's younger sister. Erlang's father was a mortal human. This is actually a huge NO NO in the celestial court for immortals to mingle with mortals. For this transgression, Jade Emperor sent his army to kill Erlang's father and brother and then imprisoned his mother under a mountain. Erlang was pissed and he later got so strong that he was able to cut open the mountain using his axe to rescue his mother. Erlang does not like Jade Emperor that much but to ensure the safety of his mother and younger sister, he had no choice but to do Jade Emperor's dirty work. Erlang sees a kindred spirit in Sun Wukong. Game recognizes Game type of thing. Oh lastly, it's speculated that Erlang and Sun Wukong studied under the same master because they both know how to transform into 72 different things.

After Erlang, do Great Sage's Broken Shell again, and then you will finish the True ending where he refuses to wear the restricting headband after he gets Wukong's memory from Erlang.

The fight with ErLang is to mainly use spells. Otherwise u are just risking 2 or 3 hit deaths.
