This is literally one of the top 5 biggest Christmas Songs of the last 50 years. Its an original work not someone’s version. It’s been covered by how many famous artists? Rob doesn’t like the song . That’s fine. The first through 5 times he said that. Fine. What’s not fine is him throwing temper tantrums the whole song. It’s not my business how that disrespected her, but it was disrespectful. This is the most I’ve called him out. The only other time was the B-52’s. It was the other time he repeatedly mocked the song, but I like him but he should be ashamed of his behavior. Repeatedly rolling his eyes and giving exaggerated gestures. He should do a short video and apologize for his behavior.
@deadpan666true2 жыл бұрын

This is what you get when a Punk/New Wave label asks their artists to do a Christmas album. This may be one of the only tunes from ZE Records album A Christmas Record that gets replayed often. The lead singer is Patty Donahue, the group only had one other song that bounced around the lower reaches of the charts, I Know What Boys Like. A Classic American New Wave song where Patty's flat affect delivery makes the song memorable.

@pebblehilllane Жыл бұрын
The song was cobbled together from bits and pieces of ideas for different songs by a guy that literally hated Christmas. The Waitresses were releasing "I Know What Boys Like" as a single but the record label said they needed a side B. He threw together the various bits and pieces, wrote they lyrics, literally finishing them while on the way to the studio to record the song and it became an iconic Christmas classic from the 80's. The guy was Chris Butler. He went to Kent St. University and was an eye-witness to shooting and lost a close friend named Jeffery Miller. He the was in a band with Chrissie Hynde, later a member of the Pretenders, and a guy that later became a member of Devo, who's name I cannot remember at the moment. The Lead singer for The Waitresses happened as a fluke. Chris Butler was playing somewhere and had the song "I Know What Boys Like" and asked if there was a girl in the crowd that could sing and wanted to and Patty Donahue got up and sang and ended up the lead singer for the band. Christ Butler never wanted to make the song "Christmas Wrapping" or any other Christmas song. He was a bit of a Scrooge, but he had to and history was made.

I think Jay took the "[w]rapping" part of "Christmas Wrapping" a little too much to heart. No, the Waitresses weren't pretending to be Run DMC! (If they were, then yeah, that would be pretty embarrassing.) The title was just a cute, ironic play on words and a marketing gimmick, nothing more. But it's true: it did make for a classic RSR moment!

Back before kareoke machines, my dad would bang this out on the bass so I could do this for my high school Christmas show circa 84. (He prerecorded the horns and chorus) Best Christmas memory with my dad ever. Jay missed it from not knowing The Waitresses history and viewing through modern dad lens.

Wow, who let Scrooge sit in on this one?! 😂 Total banger this one. The Spice Girls did a cover of this in the 90s too.

First the Pun: Christmas rapping, get it? Jay, loosen up, Rock Lobster set you off too! Amber gets it! And the bass and guitar are back there WAILING! I will say tho, when Jay hates a song, it IS entertaining! LOL

I don't know, I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus is a pretty epic hook up 😆

A one time kiss witnessed by a kid who could immediately put a stop to things and tell on Mommy - compared to a year long buildup, with multiple “almost” situations eventually culminated by going home together on Christmas Eve? No kids were there to stop things after a single kiss.

You've got to listen to the story! The Waitresses' sax player was in the band on the Rosie O'Donnell Show, it's entire run.

Patty died at 40 years of age. Had a beautiful voice though she smoked like a dream locomotive.

I love "Christmas Wrapping"! It reminds me of early MTV, and the fact that there's no music video for this song (that I know of) makes it all the more ironic.
