Of all the episodes of Daria, this was the one that I connected with the most. Plus it has peak friendship moments between Daria and Jane

The description of the ink blot was identical to what Daria said in the first episode in the psych exam. I never made that connection until today.

From what I hear this is not only the final episode of Daria but also the first darkest episode as it features of Daria's past long before her family moves to Lawndale at the very first episode.

Not quite the last episode. There is S5E14 entitled "Is it College Yet?" It's a little over an hour long. You wont find it listed with the other episodes. Its a stand alone. Great final episode though.

So Jake was an emotionally abusive parent before he became the lovingly incompetent and clueless father we know and love.
@przemyslawwasowski7450

It's not being abusive. It's being frustrated, sure one can turn into another but it takes time. Just like we can see this one visit at the psycologist which wasn't first instinct of Helen and Jake but a result of repeated over and OVER counceling at the preschool or primary school or whatever you have in America. It's the repeated times when the teachers call you at work and multiple times when you have to apologize at work over and over again because you are unreliable worker because your child is problematic and you HAVE TO immedietly go them because obviously it's an urgency. You cannot "do it later", after work, you have to go NOW, because your child is distraught. And that makes you worry because your career is threathened, you can be fired and have troubles with having a job which let me remind you is NECESSARY to keep your house because you need to pay bills. So what you can get another job if your child is the same and WILL keep doing the same thing. And we know from the show overall that Jake have anger issues that are unresolved problems with his father so he decides to have an "alternative emotion", a cluelessness state of not understanding what's going on around (which is partially caused by Helen being one that have more dominating personality with which he could not compete). And imagine that after constant problems with a child in school the psychologist don't give you anything so you waste even more time and money with the same problem which no one around seem to have so you also don't know what to do. You cannot let it be, you cannot constantly be summoned to school, both of you have a career so you can pay bills so none of you can lose jobs which WILL eventually happen if this continue so at some point you discuss this problem that you have that IS your child and if you as parents cannot agree what to do, then what, you get frustrated, that makes the other person ALSO frustrated and suddenly you both yell at eachother. Conflicts and arguments WILL happen in your relationships, that doesn't mean that this relationship is abusive. And relating directly to Helen and Jake argument, they both are right, but oddly Jake kind of puts more truths in it. Daria DOESN'T WANT to fit in. She is different, she didn't fit to her age group. Maybe putting her in more advanced group of children with different interests would help but meanwhile it's teachers call to decide IF they agree to that. Helen is also right that how a child is supposed to have enough introspection abilities to vocalize her emotions and reasonings which she oddly did at the psychologist but somehow I guess she didn't took her seriously. Daria didn't want to fit in in a group of children that she had nothing in common and who picked on her. Why would she want to integrate with them? Alternatively why would she alter her behaviour and her personality to the others (like Quinn did) JUST to fit in? That's the case. She like to read. Why you don't want to let her? Ooooh, that's right, because it's easier to punish one person that act out by being passive in society instead of the whole group that act out on the very same one person. Oh, right, that doesn't sound familiar at all, I don't remember to have such memories myself, and I'm sure no other person in this whole society cannot relate to this especially since we are all treated always fairly and without a single doubt there aren't any mistakes of people who are treated unjustly just because they don't fit to our prejudices and stereotypes. Because there's no racism in America and there's no war in Ba Sing Se. Because people are rewarded by thinking by themselves and punished for being a phony and conformist... or are they? Maybe it was another way around. This WHOLE show is about it and somehow you still come to the simplest the most typical response that can ever be answered that is wrong just by the fact of how simple it is. Jake wasn't abusive, he ran away from the problem, just like he did ALL THE TIME by being clueless. That's the same personality trait. Of course, if you want you can equate cluelessness = abusiveness, but at this point you would be the most abusive to your own sanity more than to anyone else.

@@przemyslawwasowski7450here's my thing, it's still abuse point blank, and there really wasn't anything wrong with Daria she just naturally didn't mesh with her peers cause she was already too mature for them But at the time people thought that was strange cause they didn't know any better they thought that she HAD to get along with her peers instead of just accepting her as she already was causing her childhood trauma and further alienation It's not Daria's fault at all it's just in her nature, but again people weren't educated nor mature enough to know and accept that. Just because you are frustrated and going through something DOES NOT mean you are excused for how you treated others It's still wrong, and there are still consequences you have to face FULLY Her parents may have their reasons but their reason doesn't absolve them of accountability an acceptance of how wrong they were to Daria

@@extraterrestrialsubliminal1399 See, that's right, you just listed all the things to blame her TEACHERS, not Jake. If it wasn't for thier input there seeing something wrong where there was nothing this whole thing wouldn't be an issue. And how exacly Jake treated Daria there? Especially since this whole conversation was OVERHEARD by her. It wasn't directed at her. They thought she was asleep to talk about it. What they were supposed to do? Leave the house with childern alone to talk further? I'm sure you are a wonderful parent THAT NEVER EVER MADE ANY(!) MISTAKE. Sure, let's believe that. Oh, what's that? You're not? Nobody is? Then by your logic EVERYONE ARE ABUSIVE! They were dealing with th problem that was not a problem to Jake or Helen but to the school, did you forget? And did you have reading problem since that ALL I already stated in previous conversation. Or maybe attention deficit? Either way, reread what I wrote because you need it to rethink your statement. Maybe rewatch the whole show or at least the episode because it seems you lack the grasp of what's going on here.

She's not even doing anything wrong. If she just wants to read instead of socialize that's fine. Forcing her to try and "fit in" because she's being bullied isn't the solution. The other kids should be taught not to bully. This is not her fault. I feel so bad for her!

Exactly. But back then adult never encouraged that. They always made the quiet kid who wanted to read get punished... And I should know because I was one.
