*No, Metallica cannot be touched and here's why... One being that they've been together for 41 years this October, are still touring, and still putting out albums. Two of the original members are still there. Kirk Hammett has been with band for 39 of those 41 years, and Robert Trujillo (bassist) being the newest has been with Metallica for 19 years. Metallica is the first band ever to play on all 7 Continents and have won 9 Grammys. Elton John covered Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" while saying it was one of the best songs ever written and that Metallica was one of the greatest bands of all time. That kind of acknowledgement from someone like Elton John is one of the biggest compliments anyone could get. Metallica has played with the San Francisco Symphony, played at San Quentin prison, and played the soundtrack for Mission Impossible 2 after Tom Cruise gave them a private screening of the movie, persuading them to do it. Even reactors on KZbin, one minute you'll want to bang your head and the next song you can rock your baby to sleep. They're Metallica.. they're untouchable.*

Metallicas music was referred to as" Death Metal" and as a father of a teenager at that time, I took it upon myself to look into their music and some of the lyrics. There was even a court case at that time that dealt with one of their songs being the cause of a teenager killing his parents. He admitted that he was obsessed with the song and would play it over and over for hours on end. Here are some of those lyrics. Lashing out the action, returning the reaction The weak are ripped and torn away Hypnotizing power, crushing all that cower Battery (or physical violence) is here to stay Smashing through the boundaries, lunacy has found me Cannot stop the battery (physical violence) Pounding out the aggression turns into obsession Cannot kill the battery Cannot kill the family, battery has found me Crushing all desires, mashing non-believers Hungry violence- seeker, feeding off the weak Breeding insanity Reading these lyrics to my son and helping him think about what they meant was the catalyst to him changing his song preferences.
@adnap2 жыл бұрын
@@bgallagher8129 So many things that I feel should be addressed with this post. So.. First and foremost: Metallica has NEVER been referred to as “Death Metal.” Secondly, Most of these lyrics are incorrect, which technically doesn’t really matter as it pertains to the point I’m making, but still. I don’t understand why people don’t understand that lyrics are 90% of time nothing more than artistic expression, and a way to vent emotions. Those people who believe that just because the lyrical content has a negative connotation, automatically assume the writer is condoning violence, hatred, even suicide. As a musician and a writer, I don’t comprehend this way of thinking. Many times, lyrics are based off of FICTIONAL stories, metaphors, or hypothetical alternate realities. If you go do some deep research, you’ll understand that there are VERY FEW Metal bands in existence who actually condone Satanism, violence, dark deeds, etc. Very FEW in a wide spectrum of music. You’re more likely to find that in POP music in this day and age. FACT. Most of Metallica’s lyrics are based on James’ and Lars’ personal history, books and movies they’ve read and their political views for the time period in which they were written. Take a song like Battery: The lyrics are basically just holding up a mirror to any human who has ever been angry, frustrated or felt the temptation to give in to aggression. “Cannot Kill the family, battery is found in ME.” Inherited temperamental disposition. The funny thing is, you’re more likely to find the kinds of questionable lyrics that really go to that dark and evil place in Slayer’s music, and yet, they have all admitted that it’s just an act. It just fits the music they write. Hell, the lead singer of Slayer (Tom Araya) is an admitted Christian, and didn’t even know what Thrash Metal was when he joined the band. And that’s what Metallica is categorized as, Thrash Metal. It’s also fair to take into consideration that Metallica were only CHILDREN when they started out. (82-86) In their early years at 17, 18 years old they were simply writing about things that most kids their age think about. By the time they were into their 20’s, their music content and lyrics had already matured greatly (And Justice For All…, 1988) Most of them are all married with children of their own now, and they’re probably the ones looking into the lyrical content their children listen to.

The members of Metallica are James Hetfield guitar, Kirk Hammett lead guitar, Lars Ulrich drums, Robert Trujillo bass,They also had a different lead guitarist named Dave Mustaine, but he got kick out and was replaced by Kirk Hammett. There first bass player was Ron McGovney , but was was later replaced by Cliff Burton who sadly passed away in a bus accident on September 27th, 1986. The accident was caused by a snowy and icy storm. Later, Jason Newsted bass player would fill Cliff’s spot. Then, Jason Newsted left Metallica because, he wanted to play a more creative role in the band and at the time Metallica was fighting with Napster (for copyright infringement). But Jason Newsted wanted to do a side project called “Echobrain” and James Hetfield heard about the side project and thought that it would affect Metallica so Jason Newsted left the band. There are those people, those rare people, who love you for who you are and it doesn't matter how much you get to see them in person. Those are your people. This is my intro song for the people I meet who judge metal. I will always be me. I tried not being me for a while and got lost so those words are very precious to me. Nothing else matters.

This is part of the reason why Metallica is my favorite band. I actually used to be into rap when I was younger, then made my way into heavy metal/rock, but I actually went along time without really listening to Metallica, mainly because I thought it was "old" metal, and OMG I was so wrong. Yes, it is technically "old", but not old as in "soft". I got into them and just couldn't believe how they had banger after banger after banger after BANGER. Not only stuff that all sounds the same either, there SO much range and so many different emotions felt while listening to them. Couple that with James Hetfield being such an awesome ass dude, and I'm so proud to call them my favorite.

If you guys get a chance, check out the album they have playing their most iconic songs with a symphonic orchestra. Every single song is a masterpiece.
@philpennington8262 жыл бұрын
The album's called "S&M"...stands for "Symphony & Metallica". Recorded with the San Fransisco Symphony. Also, if you like that sound, check out a band called Apocalyptica. They're now categorized as a Finnish symphonic metal band; but they started as a cello quartet. Their first album, in 1996, ""Plays Metallica By Four Cellos", is all Metallica covers played, well, by four cellos. Their second album, "Inquisition Symphony", is also mostly a covers album, but of various metal bands (Faith No More, Sepultura, Pantera, more Metallica). The cover of "Nothing Else Matters" on that album is exceptionally good.
@marcp37912 жыл бұрын
In a similar vein, Apocalyptica's album "Metallica by Four Cellos" is a really interesting take on some of the bands most iconic songs, but just on cellos. Its pretty cool.
